A Rant on Shell Petrol

That's the benefit of cleaning additive.

The previous model of my car, on the ground, there are quite a few owners have erratic rpm and fuel gauge issues.

At that time, Shell petrol (before fuelsave) doesn't seem to be suitable.

If cleaning throttle body doesn't suffice, it means changing throttle body. Most change throttle body at least once.

I had the car for 9 years and had encountered the same issues in the beginning.

My solution, Caltex 95 with Techron and 3M Intake System Cleaner.

I use the Scangauge II and everytime the TPS goes above a certain number, it's time for the 3M service.

The Caltex95 with Techron keeps the fuel injectors and valves clean. Redline EO keeps the engine clean.

Cleaning additive is important.

It keeps the fuel system, fuel injectors clean, so you get better fuel spray pattern, better fuel atomization, and thus improved fuel consumption.

However, dirty throttle body may not affect fc much, except for those cars with drive-by-wire. It affects idling.

Engine may stall with not enough air. And for some engines, when battery voltage is lost, the ecu is reset to default value where a clean TB is expected. But bcuz TB is now dirty, their engine keep stalling with the wrong value.

Changing TB itself is extreme. It doesn't "spoil", but the parts around it do get degraded, like air gasket, idling control valve/motor, TPS and airflow sensors; and these are the ones to be cleaned or replaced, not the TB itself.

Bro, how you get to see the flame color?

You buy samples of each petrol and burn downstairs at void deck?

No,older time,92 octane is known as 'old petrol',it burnt with a 'uncontrollable' flame, thus got 'pinging' for older cars,w/o knock control...

Eh... I have to rely on workshop. I try to "break" the cycle by doing additional maintenance. [laugh]

I thought all petrol come with additives , so fuel additives are unnecessary. Edited by Vinceng
