Ya looks the most spacious I've ever seen!! 8 seater with enormous boot space and I think can even put a luggage in between the front seats since gear is dash board mounted!!

Quite a nice car. Surprisingly comfortable. About the same feeling as an Alphard but more spacious.

Nzy Twincharged June 9, 2016 Share June 9, 2016 No fight with Alphard / Vellfire in term of ride refinement. Space is huge, but the build quality so so only. Yeah. Build quality is lower than alphard, because like other hyundais, it has alot of hard plastic all over. But I actually feel its a good thing if using as family car cuz these hard plastics are alot easier to clean than those soft touch materials. Since I had kids, I started to like cars with hard plastic interiors cuz they can be cleaned easily just by wiping with a wet cloth.

All the luxury is wasted. From my experience, my MPV became like a junkyard with clothes, shoes, food, water all over the place. mat is filled with sand etc. But i am ok with it lah, as long as family enjoys the ride can liao
Carbon82 Moderator June 9, 2016 Share June 9, 2016 LOL for sure i think price also no fight? Don't get me wrong, I am not condemning the Starex (in fact I see it as a good alternative to the Toyota), but it turned out below my expectations. Ok to be fair, the one that I traveled in is not brand new (around 2 years old), but still it is not as comfortable as say a Alphard of the same age. Price wise, entry spec Alphard can be had for around $160K+ (PI unit - before the recent price adjustment). Just to add, the Starex is very popular in Malaysia cos it is cheaper and most importantly, run on diesel (lower running cost for the owner).

I also didn't know that alphard can be had for slightly more? Diesel would be great if they could bring it here in SG
Atrecord Supersonic June 9, 2016 Share June 9, 2016 came across this beast starex a few weeks back. selling for $160k, seems like damn expensive for a van but it is damn large.. even bigger than alphard? look at the boot space ! starex 1.jpg starex 2.jpg starex 3.jpg starex 4.jpg starex 5.jpg Where did you find this? Here, the starex are all vans only, no MPVs. I actually sat in one when on a trip to taiwan in 2012. We had a driver bring us around the whole trip. The seats were not fantastic in that the 2nd row only had 2 positions in terms of moving it further forward/backward. The forward position made it too near the front seat, and the backward position made it too near the 3rd row. So it's either the 2nd row or 3rd row that will not be comfortable, in terms of leg space. This is prob contributed in part cos 3rd row position is fixed, and it's too far forward, which gives a HUGE boot, but compromised on legroom. The one problem was the height. My mother went with us, and her legs were weak. She could slowly hold onto the vehicle and climb up, but couldn't get down on her own, so i had to support her (under her arm) when she gets down... Then the next year we went Australia and rented a MPV, and since they only had 2 choices (i think a kia grand carnival and a hyundai iMax), we chose the bigger one which is also the Starex. This time round, the seats were better spaced out, like in the pics shown above. The kids loved it, and my folks loved it. Only i never got to try the rear seats... Oh, we could fit in our 1 x large expandable, 2 x medium expandable, 2 x small luggages with only one small one needed to be stacked. The rest were all sitting comfortably on the floorboard. And we were prepared for my mum then - we brought our Ikea stepper at home along for her to go up/down the back herself. Left it in the car when we returned it. Kids have been saying they like the space but too bad no such option here. It's quite van-like in its drive though, really big...

Alpha78 6th Gear June 9, 2016 Share June 9, 2016 Hmm, 8 seats only? I thought most of the Starex vans in Malaysia are 11 seater, with 4th row. That is really a bus! ↡ Advertisement
