According to this, Borneo's margin over the basic car cost of $98,000 is $42,000 on a car they price around $140,000.    After deducting the cost of their fancy showroom, warranty, salesperson and staff salaries, that's still probably a respectable margin.   Even if they decided to pass the cost on, I'm sure buyers would welcome the massive upgrade for $1,500.  To argue cost seems a very small minded measure, but again I don't have the money or the resources to own and run a car dealership!

 

I remember checking out the CLA Shooting Brake at Cycle and Carriage and being told that GPS is not available because it's an $8000 option...

I entirely agree. But I also can see the ADs point of view.

 

On one hand, I complain that the Audi A4 1.4 does not have virtual cockpit as standard, or that the Mercedes E250 does not come with the 12" HU and adaptive cruise. And I wonder why we are paying the most expensive prices in the world for the most basic specs.

So from tha ADs perspective, it is probably easier to sell an Audi A4 without virtual cockpit at $150k or $15k more than Toyota Camry, rather than with virtual cockpit for $23k more.

A4 1.4 is the mass mkt unit for Audi. If u buy an S4, see whether got VC or not.

 

I know Sg car is expensive. But most ppl here still act like buyer from 3rd world country. Where badge and price is the determinant.

I bought from a PI.

Savings i enjoyed against Borneo Motor's version is about $25K.

It came with 10 years hybrid batt warranty so i think, on the whole should be worry-free.

Also, i was very impressed by the level of electronic aids in the car like Toyota Safety Sense and the radar cruise control which is excellent.

After one week of driving, i'm achieving between 21-24km per litre on my trips which are mainly within city driving.

My previous cars were continental cars, in fact my last car was a Mercedes SLK, and i will admit that seeing this level of fuel frugality and impressive electronics onboard, i am reassured that i made the right choice switching to this car.

Yes, it doesnt handle like an SLK, but it certainly acquits itself very well on our local roads conditions where you never really get to exploit the abilities of an SLK.

Bottomline, i am convinced i made the right choice in the Prius and i do encourage others who are considering this model to view it and try it for yourself.

hybrid vehicle is totally the opposite of conventional petrol cars... 

 

fuel consumption is lower the more u drive in the city...

driving in the city with frequent start/stop, the battery is used more than the petrol engine...

petrol engine kick in while u travelling high speed at the highway...

 

so the more u drive in the city, the better your fuel consumption...

Auron is absolutely correct.

In housing estate, I am doing something like 29.5km/lit.

But when I get on highway I start seeing this drop to just below 27km/lit.

To give u better reference, I'm driving at about 45-50kmh in housing estate, and I set my cruise to 85kmh on the highway.

You're correct, if u are heavy right footed than you will burn more petrol.

highway driving is good...because even if u use the petrol engine, its highly efficient and you will get very good mileage and fuel consumption...presumably better than most cars as prius is built for the single minded purpose of optimum fuel efficiency.

 

tyoically, when i enter highway, i like to set cruise...anything between 85-99kmh, so that i wont kenna speeding ticket....when cruise is engaged, for any car, not just prius, the engine typically will find the optimum engine speed (RPM) to maintain that speed...which means it will be running at its most efficient. With my prius, because it has that adpative radar cruise, the car literally speeds up or decelerates based on the car in front...so u literally just need to steer the car (but pls keep your right foot hovering over the brake pedal lah for safety)....and leave achieving optimum engine speed (RPM) to the computer. SIMPLE!

 

eveyday i drive, my cumulative odometer and corresponding FC improves. bear in mind, my car is only 8 days old.

I'm easily achieving 25km/lit  past 2 days and at least half my drives are achieving 27-28km/lit.

its so efficient, it freaking astounds me...i should have changed to this car earlier...

My SLK was doing between 9-11km/lit....but more often than not, its burning 10.5 litres every 100km....

I think Prius is using Electronic Throttle. So, when you step on the accelerator, computer took over and "guess" how fast you want to drive. I usually set it to "Normal" mode, but if you were to set it to "Eco", the Throttle seems sluggish. If you set to "Power", it might "vroom" "vroom" a bit.

 

 

The nice thing is that if you are stuck in highway, the rest of the vehicle will be burning fuel but Prius will just use battery to cruise along.

Diesel has more kilojoule per litre than petrol...and works best when its hot..so logically it works best during long drives when the engine has no chance to cool..
