yeah, it's sad that there's no more $3 flag. but the crown's time is really up, and anything afterwards was bought with higher COE, so "need higher flag to offset".

the new models like prius and latitude just get more and more expensive. before you know it the sonatas will be gone as well, and the cheapest flag may well become $3.90.

LTA scholars getting smarter.. uisng newer and bigger cabs to push up the flag down fare overtly... no need announce on papers and TV taxi fare going up, but diam diam raise it when they force hirers to take on ever more expensive cabs in the name of increased luxury... _|_.. this is to save the incumbent political party the potential lost votes if people are up in arms over another round of taxi fare hikes....

Now stealth is the way to go... actually, I'm fine if the crown stayed on and the taxi fare is lower... not going to spend an hour in the cab so I rather pay less taxi fare than sit in a conti cab...

i love the crown taxis. Can literally walk into the taxi....very luxurious space, unlike our cramp cars. Can fit my computer in the back seat and still got room for feet!!! i previoulsy never use the boot and all my shopping bags in on the floor at the back seat and lost of leg room left.

Now taxis like normal cars...and you all know the most comfortable seat in a normal car is the driver's seat. Hard to sit cross leg in a new taxi liao. LOL the old crown make me feel like big boss. Ride was bumpy but damn big space behind.

Yup, for most taxi trips, the size of a Corolla etc will be enough for the usual 1-2 passengers seen taking cab rides!!

Surprisingly, we are seeing more and more large size taxis on the roads, when they only carry 1 or 2 persons inside.

Larger size means higher costs, mean higer taxi fares!!! All for nothing!

SMRT adds 600 Toyota Prius hybrids to fleet, becomes largest hybrid taxi operator here

Petrol-electric hybrid cabs are gaining popularity among taxi operators. SMRT, the third largest cab company here said on Monday that it will add more than 600 Toyota Prius hybrids to its fleet over the next one year. The first cars will arrive on Friday.
The move will make SMRT the largest hybrid taxi operator in Singapore. They will make up about one-fifth of its total fleet of some 3,500 cabs, which are predominantly diesel.
Taxi firms with petrol-electric hybrids include Premier and Prime taxis.
SMRT senior vice-president (roads) said: "Opting for hybrid vehicles is a conscious move on SMRT's part in generating more positive environmental footprint on roads." He said passengers can look forward to more comfortable, smoother and quieter rides with the new taxis.
