Pokyman 1st Gear September 12, 2012 Share September 12, 2012 I ask you then: Let's say someone who earns between $250K-500K p.a. With high-spend power and savings, he owns a few cars and lives in landed property in prime D10. But at work, he is quite happy where he is and not trying to move any further up. At home, just play read newspaper / mags, watch TV & videos and go for occasional movie / window shopping on weekends Is this considered contented or slack? Above is hypothetical example only. That is why it depends on what you want in life. What goals and thresholds you set yourself. You made the choice , you live and die by it. Complain also no use. ↡ Advertisement

Happily1986 5th Gear September 12, 2012 Share September 12, 2012 I agree with OmOm that indolence and being industrious are relative. however how does one separate being genuinely content or a matter of lacking drive? I think the distinction can be made by having a glimpse into the state of mind of the individual. For example, you are given an opportunity to ascent to a higher station in life which will unfortunately require you to uproot yourself from Singapore. let us not get caught up with the difficulties associated with logistic considerations. if the person turns down the offer, is it because the person dreads stepping out of his comfort zone or does he truly and firmly feela that for all that he is achieving now, there is no need for him to stretch out for more? Also given that a person is currently in a state of contentment, congratulations but life as we know is a journey filled with uncertainties and constantly in flux. you may be contented because everything does fall in place nicely and there is no real need to acquire anymore material possessions because you are already at the point of diminishing returns with regards to happiness. What if you are plunged into a situation of inadequacy where there is suddenly a change in needs? needs not wants I stress. Which sorely rankles because what you have is no longer considered enough. E.g. a drastic change in domestic arrangements.

Mazdaowner Moderator September 12, 2012 Share September 12, 2012 plus one fistful ah gua. Honestly, as a person, he's a wonderful guy, online persona is just jesting. He has a heart of gold, can see. Sexual preferences I'd say he was labelled with prejudice, judge, jury whole court thrown in.

Little_prince Supersonic September 12, 2012 Share September 12, 2012 Must own a few cars and have landed to feel contented meh? depends really. when i interview a person. i look for more of a character type than a skill fit. skills can always be learnt. character will not change. i like ambitious people. ambitious ppl typically work harder and trys harder to over deliver. as a boss isn't that what you want? ↡ Advertisement
