SuPerBoRed Twincharged October 17, 2017 Share October 17, 2017 I can attest to it. During the Terrex time, so many people calling PM (pinky) to step down, shouted PM cannot hold a candle to his father, talk to much, very pro Armerica and now Trump play us out, offended china, must kowtow to china and etc.. I was disappointed and worried.. I am sure PM knows and want to do what is best for SG...there could be some policies fault but I am sure he will give his full attention to correct it. At that time, I noticed some of the forumers are so unforgiving. These evil guys just want PM, FM, DM to step down, and then what? I mean What will happen, replacement, step down, replacement step down.... Is this what they want. I don't think we have a talent pool big enough to find replacement to lead SG easily. I also share my view to those who always complaint on high salaried ministers. Just ask yourself, if you are a capable guy with brain, would you accept peanut salary to join politics? I can be sure I will not because I am not so noble. I need to look after my family of seven (wife not working), bring them for nice holiday, buy new toys, car, motor bikes, golf holiday. In any case, I don't have the brain and willpower also. For me... Im not saying i want them replaced... ... but surely .. there has to be KPI attached to drawing that salary is it not?? your highlighted paragraph makes sense only IF they are drawing peanuts.. which in these case... they are not... For the record I have nothing against the pay.. since i have not say in that at all... but.. i would love to see them be accountable.... ↡ Advertisement

grandis123 4th Gear October 17, 2017 Share October 17, 2017 @grandis123, the point is if they are so merciless to the opposition, every little thing keep finding fault to the point of suggesting that they commit suicide and such, is it not unexpected that there be hatred for them online? A general who treats his men with contempt in peacetime cannot reasonably expect his men to support him during war time because "we must be united ". And are you really sure there is no talent in Singapore? Do you really think that? World leaders come and go. Nothing changes. The world still spins. Life goes on. What makes us so different that if these leaders step down no one can step up? And if that were true, is this not an indictment of our current leaders when one priority for any leader is to groom a successor? I agree that politics are merciless and this is one reason the ruling party is attracting a lot of criticism. There might be a lot of talents. But I think it is hard to find capable and willing person to join politics. I always ask people, if you are good, would you join politics and accept a lower pay then you are in your current field. Of course some would, but human being selfish, there are lesser people lar.

We elect the government (who by the way decides how much to pay themselves) and we have a right to question. from the many buffets AGMs i attended i never once saw anyone telling any stakeholder to shut up if they can't do it better.

Sugimoto 6th Gear October 17, 2017 Share October 17, 2017 (edited) The non-whites were not citizens so they did not bother. Is this what MOE's history text book taught you? Then Lim Bo Seng sacrifice his life for which country? So you did mean he is not a war hero of Singapore? There is also 1 hero worth mention, Lieutenant Adnan bin Saidi. He led Malay Regiment to fight with the Japanese army at Pasir Panjang. It is also 1 of the fiercest fight ever for Japanese army in Singapore. https://battleofsingapore.wikispaces.com/Battle+of+Pasir+Panjang Edited October 17, 2017 by Sugimoto

I agree that there will be willing people .. but we have to admit that there are lesser talent pool. Even if the person agrees, the family member may objects. I think no polices are perfect, even US, Japan, European politicians can't give us the assurance that there will be no cock up. Just like the company I worked for, the top performers are getting super millions profits if they meet the target. In this aspect, I am a firm beliver of paying good money to attract talents. I pay peanuts, I will get monkey.

Money second. We should not use the criteria of the private sector as a yardstick to measure public service.
Angcheek Hypersonic October 17, 2017 Share October 17, 2017 My grandparents probably still in diapers (or whatever they used in those days). But my greatgrandpa was a jap collaborator. He collaborated with the japs when they asked him to get onto the truck and was never seen or heard from again. He might still be collaborating with them in Japan now. oh you trying to say you very young and I old rite ....

I think we both have read that some of the ministers are more old looking than their actual age.. Surely they feel the pressure and surely got KPI lar.. My sister in law works for a government agency, the Minister policy and decision always leans toward the voters at the expense of the staffs working for that ministry. From her view, she thinks its is unfair. As a Minister and also the big boss, it is also his job to take care of the interests of the staffs. But why is he not doing it? Cold it be related to KPIs and Criticism (less complaint the better)? . So I was thinking are our expectations of the government a bit too unreasonable? Imagine if we are one of the unreasonable complainers, our complaint can be a direct impact on the staff working for the ministry. That staff could be your wife or someone close to you. So I always say, Be careful of what we wish.
