VES 2018

There will be a mad rush to register cars in the next few bids so the cars avoid the new tax. For buyers still awaiting their COE or registration, do constantly check with your rep.. if they mess up, make sure your T&C covers you. E.g. For Toyota, you would have signed an undertaking to pay the VES if there's a delay.

Dealers may also get sloppy with the finishing as they rush orders, so take half a day leave to go through the day.

Check it in daylight, bring a friend, and a torchlight..

Check that the promised solar film, PPS etc have all been installed..

Few of the car models already shown the 2018 after Ves price

Example 11/11/2017

Mazda 3 sedan deluxe is selling 109k +-

2018

Same model will be selling at 115k+-

Abt 6k diff, thought the Ves tax for mz3 is 15k

But not all models r affected.

The listed price for mazda 2, 2018 is cheaper than 11/11/2017. Thus I reckon there is rebate for this model.

So my prediction, for those who r looking smaller cars like jazz, mazda 2 or attrage might be able to get a good deal after this yr. Very high chance there will be lesser ppl booking for cars after 2017 n therefore lower coe price. So those who r looking for small cars, maybe u can wait till 2018

BTW this is just my prediction. U know our government pattern more than badminton

Don't worry. U can be sure LTA will change the rules again if the ''environmental' reason doesn't result in higher tax for every car

These r big cars ma. Smaller cars still have rebates

Confirm. They will find all sorts of reason to "help" climate change

based on my visit to BM last month, SE says LTA emission tests for some of the models are still ongoing (explains the "est" 2018 price for some cars).

even hybrid cars are not exempt from VES tax...

Self serving estimations are worth nothing.. why car dealers are allowed by Lta to take advantage of the situation is beyond me..

you have close to 10 years to find out, no rush and take your time to sort that out while you zoom zoom.  [:p]  [laugh]  [laugh]

For most of the global cars, you can get a pretty good indication of likely VES impact from the website - http://www.nextgreencar.com/.

For most cars, the bottleneck is the NOX rating.

If the NOX indications on the website are accurate, most of the small capacity turbos and diesel vehicles will be hardest hit, because they tend to be low CO2 (which fits CEVS) and high NOX.

SGD15 - 20k increase is par for the course for mid-sized cars with decent power, for the most part. In fact, for Audi A4 1.4 turbo it looks like a SGD30k turnaround (SGD10k rebate to SGD20k surcharge).

Can hardly blame the ADs here - think they are as bamboozled as the rest of us. For those who bought this year, just need to be thankful. Next year will be a different game.

This doesn't affect me so soon. I'm just highlighting something which I noticed, this might be some hope for some buyers who thought they missed the boat

The PIs have the VES figures that LTA have not even released? Power lah!

When it comes to creative marketing, no one can beat the PIs.... Just wish they spend the same effort in making sure they don't run away with deposits or to provide real warranty for the cars they sell.

:D

This is becoz the tax collector release news that scare the buying public w/o releasing VES details. ADs and PIs simply taking full advantage of the information gap n who can blame them?
