Assuming that the avg buyer threshold remains same at $90k... the additional $10k VES may see a drop of $10k for COE.. but end up the same price car has lower paper value due to lower COE..

And at the end, LTA benefits..

Agree.

In the end is LPPL.

Just like scrap away coe and car tax increase 300%,lol..

I have mentioned before:

In the first few months, the car prices May go up, but either the dealers bring in models that cut costs, lower the OMV or the COE will drop as the current economy doesn't really show that it can support much higher prices.

Marginal buyers will lose interest, B&B buyers are looking at the 100k pain threshold and there aren't that many big buyers to keep the COE sky high..

The demand is not that huge..

Pretty much what I said :

I guess the new cevs have the following intended gov desired effect:

1. Shift the variable revenue to a higher fixed and less variable amount.

2. Maintain the car price such that it does not drop too much as it will induce alot of high coe car to scrap..... Not something they want.

3. Inevitably raised the floor of car price, even if coe crashed to zero. Think about it, with the floor raised, there is only more upside.

Like I mention before, just like scrap away coe and increase car tax to 300%,LPPL.

Coe will drop but does not mean car is cheap.

A lot of people will renew coe(perspective, where are you?lol) but in no time will affect coe quota and mostly will push the price up again, just guessing?

IMO, this is worth repeating here:

A Euro 6 car is Not free from VES tax charge if it applies..

Euro 6 emission requirements and VES are not the same thing.

All cars sold from September 2017 have to meet the Euro 6 requirements.

And not all cars with turbo engines that qualify for Euro 6 will be in the Neutral Band of VES.

For example,

Honda HRV/ Vezel/ Civic 1.5T will go from $5000 rebate to neutral under the new scheme (refer to the table in the ST article)(source: http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/a-more-holistic-emissions-scheme )

On the other hand, the Peugeot 308 will go from $10000 rebate to $10000 penalty

as it has NOx emissions of 27mg/km (source: http://www.nextgreencar.com/view-car/64745/peugeot-308-1.2l-puretech-active-130-eat6-s&s-petrol-automatic-6-speed/ )

Which will put it in band C1 as per table on LTA website ( https://www.lta.gov.sg/apps/news/page.aspx?c=2&id=08685840-d664-4713-9ccb-96dcd8936d08 )

This is now moot given the new COE zero-growth announcement... Sometimes, too smart also no good... Mai expose how stupid people are, especially when they are people in power and can change policies...

Really buah tahan this kind of VES.

If they really have the intention to reduce pollution, they should encourage old car owner to scrap their car early.

VES only make the new car more expensive. If old car owner cannot afford new car, they had to renew COE for their old car.

In the end, more pollution due to more old car on the road. [thumbsdown]

Because the scheme was never designed for the environment. The true purpose is for car owners to pay more. That's how they can sustain their finance. I mean a hybrid car qualifying for neutral category is already itself a joke.

10 out of a 1000000000 people welcome the change our "neutral" media still stating a fact mah. Not wrong haha.

Now I think their next step is to implement to public buses. Then can find excuse to charge higher public transport fees then.
