VES 2018

seems like many AD are holding their new VES cards well.

Why don't the AD play the BUY NOW game, IF those cars that incur higher VES taxes in 2018 are made know to buyers?

This surely can drive the demand for the existing stocks in 2017.

But most dealers clear stock already thanks to Euro 6.

COE from now till Jan only got finite amount. No point they push now then cannot guarantee COE before Jan 1. Then if cannot deliver by then kena the surcharge, customers sure KPKB what.

Neutral Newbie

must register the car by dec 17 la

can deliver or collect after 1st 2018

On the same note, AD told me stock arriving in dec and require to undergo LTA homologation.

What happens if  the model i bought is subjected to CEVS penalty and would the AD back charge me?

Of cos.

I still don't know any AD is in the business to run a loss or charity. Their business formula is bao jiak as sanctioned by our LTA/MOT.

Am sure in your sales agreement, the car price you paid for is including CEVs and not VES.

Best person to confirm is your AD... Write in in black and white to get them to reply you in black and white.

recently heard from BM SE that come next year, when the new CEVs kick in, car prices will go up by up to 20k. COE may reduce a bit, but overall car prices will still be higher than now. so best time to buy car is now, before Dec 17.

sales tactic?

whether it’s tactic or not

VES is coming ... that’s the hard truth

whether COE will soften that’s questionable

in summary, car price is either same or UP

there is no downside , agree?

how is it possible 2018 selling price is lower than 2017?

even VES soften abit COE ... the demand remain the same

Highly yes,

if you say you wanna sell yr car...see what they say.....will be the opposite of what he says ..

"oh..price will drop, your car no value, not euro 6, CEVs will kick in and yr car no good, emission bad, no one will buy,...best time to sell is now, but at this price hor.....difficult to sell next year, so if you sell now, you have to sell at next year price already...:-(

good luck... :TT_TT:

hmm usually ppl will trade in the old car at the same time when buying new car. since my lao pok car expiring soon, I dont expect the price in 2018 to be higher than now...

so seems like now is a good time to change car...

Now that EU has change from NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) to WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) from this September, emission figures are set to be even higher than before, a double whammy for European car manufacturers selling their cars here in SIngapore.

From NEDC to WLTP: What will change?

What is the purpose of the WLTP lab test?

What emissions are being tested?

The same car suddenly has two different CO2 values, why is this?

And here is one mission impossible, sort of, as you are unlikely to have the best of both worlds, so I would say LTA is the sole winner by setting so many parameters for the new VES scheme...

Why is it challenging to reduce CO2 and pollutants at the same time?

vs.

20170308_Table1_VES_Banding_Rebates_and_

Heard on radio this morning that LTA is considering to adopt the same emission test for Singapore eventually and some dealers interviewed said that a VES surcharge is inevitable for cars with engine capacity of 2.0L and above if the plan materialized!! Sorry, I tried to find that report on LTA, ST & CNA website, but to no avail. Anyone read that article can help to share it her? Thanks.

BTW, WLTP is just part of the revamped vehicle emission test for EU. The other part is Real Driving Emission (RDE) Test.

What is the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) Test?

Under RDE, a car will be driven on public roads and over a wide range of different conditions. Specific equipment installed on the vehicle will collect data to verify that legislative caps for pollutants such as NOx are not exceeded.

Conditions include:
- low and high altitudes
- year-round temperatures
- additional vehicle payload
- up- and down-hill driving
- urban roads (low speed)
- rural roads (medium speed)
- motorways (high speed)

Note: RDE will mean that nearly all diesel vehicles have to be fitted with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems and some maybe also lean-NOx systems. This will imply additional costs for car manufacturers and smaller cars may not be able to accommodate the fitting of SCR equipment, while prospective owners may be turned away by the additional costs.

I have mentioned before:

In the first few months, the car prices May go up, but either the dealers bring in models that cut costs, lower the OMV or the COE will drop as the current economy doesn't really show that it can support much higher prices.

Marginal buyers will lose interest, B&B buyers are looking at the 100k pain threshold and there aren't that many big buyers to keep the COE sky high..

The demand is not that huge..

I think the Treshold is dropping to about 80k soon. Now more or less about 90++

COE is ripe for a big drop. Go in now at your own risk.

demand will still be there ba...

maybe COE will drop further in the next few months due to the PHV lelong? then overall price will still balance out

Assuming that the avg buyer threshold remains same at $90k... the additional $10k VES may see a drop of $10k for COE.. but end up the same price car has lower paper value due to lower COE..
