Beregond Supersonic January 28, 2019 Share January 28, 2019 (edited) While it may look good, definitely over-priced.....why consider this car when for similar budget can get Lexus, BMW, Merc......?Because every 1 is driving lexus bmw merc audi.I want something of the same class n level comfort & power . But i want to be different at the same time. I want to be the unique. Edited January 28, 2019 by Beregond

Helloworld99 1st Gear February 8, 2019 Share February 8, 2019 Seriously the Korean luxury design is a ripped off from the Germans (BMW and Mercedes). Just look at their interior and exterior design! I agree that at that price, I would rather get the Germans... Or is it just a matter of ego-stroking image typical Singaporeans are after? A Korean vs A European ride? It's similar to food in Singapore. Try asking what exactly is nice about a food seeing a long queue, nobody can ever answer me with any specifics. Just that there's a long queue so it must be nice. So, what is nice? It's funny (and hypocritical) isn't it? When a Korean ride is below the par of a Conti, we say it's only natural of Korean rides. When it finally raises its standards to match the Conti, we say it's a ripoff.
Ravinged 5th Gear April 16, 2019 Share April 16, 2019 Genesis is doing very badly in usa. Basically it only sells in Korea (I'm not even sure how much they sell there) It's so far down the sales chart that it's just a foot note. I think their sales are very weak despite being praised by car reviewers. Even if u compare to infiniti, acura, lexus (not even mentioning the Germans)... Its far behind the pack in sales and brand recognition . Genesis is still a relatively new brand so it will take some years to gain traction. Especially when the decision to split Genesis away from Hyundai showrooms as a standalone brand wasn't too far ago. Whereas, most Toyotas/Lexus can still be sold within the same showrooms. In a market like USA (along the likes of Malaysia, China etc) where patriotism is a large factor of consumer's buying decision, the supposed "failure" of Genesis in USA can be overlooked on the larger picture. Especially in USA, the movement for "Buy America Only" is especially strong. Personally, I wouldn't rely on USA (regardless how large a market it is) to put a view on Genesis. Same as Proton in Malaysia market vs overseas market. Another way of looking at this difference in thought - can be found in Audi. Yea Yea lots of Singaporeans who drive Audi feels damn good about their "premium ride" - as if - but over in Europe, Audi is just a normal street car just like Honda is in Japan. Only in Singapore, Audi is regarded a premium Conti car when it's interior is just barely basic compared to BMW/Mercedes.

ECONOMIC 4th Gear April 16, 2019 Share April 16, 2019 It was in the news that the Germany top lady don't drive Mercedes, and is humble enough to ONLY drive an Audu. Oops. Anyway branding is a matter of perception. I am driving a Subaru. My perception is that it is a better piece of engineering product than Audi. Much better. Who cares? Your money your choice.

Ravinged 5th Gear April 16, 2019 Share April 16, 2019 (edited) Now you know hard to build a brand. It takes decades to build a brand image but just minutes to destroy it And having seen one upclose belonging to a Korean businessman staying at Cuscaden... it appears on par, if not more luxurious, than a standard Mercedes Benz we have in Singapore. Another friend who is a valet driver had a more direct experience with actually driving that car. At least the feedback I got was, the drive is absolutely smooth and beautiful. Of course, the typical badge-conscious hypebeast Singaporeans (whom of course die die won't admit they are) find it hard to swallow that. Singapore is a badge-society, afterall. NormanP Neutral Newbie April 26, 2019 Share April 26, 2019 It looks nice, but if its sales is modest in SG, then not sure if maintenance or available parts will be problematic in mid-long term or need to import from overseas. The issue with Genesis is the dependence on a dealer network like with all brands, and which Tesla also faces. You need a showroom in enough cities to gain traction. But dealers won't stock your car if it doesn't sell... and you have to throw money to build dearships and get reliable people in that can service and repair the car to the same standard, which is again pretty tight. Dealerships are unionised or something, and they carry lots of clout as to whether you can just set up shop to sell cars or not... ironically America champions free trade, but that's hardly the reality in the US... Splitting the dealerships from Hyundai was to allow Genesis to go upmarket, change market perception, lose/minimise the connection with Hyundai. That's page they took out of the Lexus notebook... however, it was easier for Lexus then than for Genesis today. Then Lexus need not compete with the internet, whatever the dealerships said was the gospel truth, you can't compare much... today, it's so easier to check and match and compare... very tough for new dealerships to survive, and online reviews and vitriol can sink your ship faster than you can bail out... for that reason, unless Hyundai dumps in a few billion dollars to set up their network of dealerships for Genesis, I can't see the brand gain traction in the immediate future... No dealerships, no matter how fantastic and wonderful the car is, I can't get one, I can't get it insured, and I can't get it repaired even if I can buy it online... and do I pay for delivery - as in thousands of dollars cos the car needs to be put on a transporter and sent to me, the one order out in goodness knows where... as Tesla is finding out... Thaiyotakamli Supersonic April 26, 2019 Share April 26, 2019 Genesis is like a full spec of lexus es to me at a cheaper price and capable to fight against merc or bmw. Ravinged 5th Gear April 26, 2019 Share April 26, 2019 It looks nice, but if its sales is modest in SG, then not sure if maintenance or available parts will be problematic in mid-long term or need to import from overseas. It's fairly expensive, in Korean terms. The mindset ingrained in Singaporeans' minds is that Korean products should be cheap. Howver the Genesis is on a different level. It is no magic a typical Singaporean would think paying above $200k for a Korean car is a worthy deal. Mindset takes a very long time to change. The tiny amount of Genesis we have on our roads, your point on parts and maintenance is real. I would forsee less prompt support. But then again, most of those Genesis owners I have met, they are not average Joes. Just my assumption, all these bosses staying at Cuscaden, Tanglin etc, money is never a problem for them. audi interior is barely basic? I thought the A4 and Q5's interior are quite well built and contemporary. the virtual cockpit is also a very nice feature And the recently launched a6 and q8 have an even more impessive interior. I certainly won't call that basic Our definition will differ I'm sure. I drove the A6 (2015) and an A8 (2015) from the embassy. The newer models I didn't really dwell into it since Audi didn't interest me.

Hyundai is indeed doing that since last year. A work in progress, I must add. https://www.autonews.com/dealers/franchise-count-flux-genesis-shifts Existing Hyundai dealers whom would like to sell Genesis as well, is required to apply for a separate sales agreement. This suggests that Hyundai parent company is drawing the line between Hyundai main fleet and Genesis premium rides. During these 3 years, Genesis will be establishing more standalone showrooms specifically for Genesis only. Was speaking casually to my hotel counterparts in Korea, over there, the Genesis is regarded as a limousine-grade car.
