165K is for the diesel version, right?

Just a thought, but for the same price of 165k you could also consider a 2 yr old XF. First owner would've already taken the big hit on depreciation.

True.. but I believe this will still be the generation having old Ford engine..

Yes, you're right about the engine. 2017 XF has new engine and chasis.

Just to share.

Coming from a Jaguar XF owner for past 2 years, longer warranty for this brand trumps whatever $5k service credits or 5 year free servicing. My side window folding mechanism failed and they replaced it for free since under warranty. I saw the shocking invoice and the service agent told me that if not for warranty, that woud be the amount i would have to pay if not for warranty !

My 2 servicings on the XF has been on average $600.

So if they occasionally run a deal on 5 year warranty, that is the time to buy.

Am looking at the current XE that's being promoted by Wearnes in Suntec and am tempted by its (obvious) good looks. Interior is acceptable, and cabin space is similar to my current car - so not really a major concern.

Only gripe is the boot space - and I forgot to check if the rear-seats can fold down. Can anyone advise please?

Ability to resell is always on the forefront of any car buyer's mind when they buy a new car - as situations and needs always change with time. What are the perks of being a Jag owner other than its exclusivity and what are the downsides? Could someone be so kind as to share it with me please?

Thank you in advance.

The new engine still Ford-based?

Or designed from ground up by Tata India?

The Jaguar brand's "exclusivity" went down the drain ever since its original British owners sold it to Ford, who later relinquished it to Tata India

The only perk was seeing the cat on the bonnet. Ever since they removed it due to safety, no more perk. Many downsides to a jag in sg. Piss poor resale. Expensive parts. Poor support for parts outside of agent.

I must say jaguar designs are really nice on the outside. Forever eye catching. If looks matter to you the most, then Go for it.

I think the reality today is that there are very few "exclusive" brands any longer. Even the Mercedes and BMW have long lost their exclusivity, ever since they started coming out with entry level models.

Can't agree more with the comments on the exclusivity. Unless "exclusivity" is viewed as it being more rare on the road!

Nevertheless, the XE and XF are candy to the eyes but IMO, the drive cannot make it. As for perks, don't think there is any for the XE model; even the XJ has no "perks" unlike some other marque - prestige program for 7 series (also no biggy IMO).

Enjoy car shopping!

Downside is the reliability.. while they have completely redesigned the XE to break away from the plague that troubled the previous generations, is just 2 years since then. So long term is a question.

But yes, if there's 5 years warranty offered, that is the time.

The diesel XE sold here is the higher end 180bhp, not 163bhp model, is comparatively with c200.

And looking at the price for both.. Jag already has a headstart from the difference to cover the maintenance costs

To your questions.. can't fold down, and boot space is one of the smallest among the cars in it's class.

Btw.. Ask the SE if they give u Adaptive Dynamics and configurable Dynamics, and rim upgrades.

These options cost nearly 10k.

Mine came with them.

Thanks for sharing so much. In the end, the cons far outweigh the pros and i decided not to get my first Jaaaag. Will keep it in mind for the future though. Hopefully the brand perceptions and management would have improved by then.

If u dont mind, can get a pre-owned first.

I test drove the XE 2.0D and was quite impressed with the drive. The interior is quite bad. Hard plastics all around.

However boot space cmi and seats can't fold down iirc. If there is, my recollection is that the lever to put down the seats are bare naked and damn ugly. Even the wire is exposed.
