You are open-minded enough to compare the Avante on an equal footing with other cars in its class, and see it as a competitor to the top Japs.

The problem is that there are many of us who expect a Hyundai to be priced like... a Hyundai. It will take another generation of Avante to overcome this.

I was skeptical about Korean cars more than 10 years ago, until I sat in one, test drove one and own one for 12 years. Those saying about Korean cars "suspension or engine will become noisy or loud after 5 years", "High fuel consumption", "reliability not as good", etc... were all proven to be wrong.

What made my impression changed, was when I sat in the Avante HD in 2007. From then on, I given Korean rides a try and never regretted till today. And throughout all their generations, I have seen how the Koreans have improved while the Japanese was stagnant until recent years they start getting on the ball.

The car looks better in real than photos. In the photos, it looks very appalling with those shapes and sharp edges which I really dislike initially. With that pricing, I compare it with Mazda 3 Astina, which the looks attract me alot but internal space wise, this new Avante wins it hands down. Though the new Avante might not have as much soft touches material as the Mazda 3, it feels just as solidly build and the interior design looks pretty pleasing and upmarket feel too. In terms of performance, 0 to 100km/h takes 10.5 seconds already win many BnB cars in its class, which is around 11.5s to 12s region. Will have to test drive the car to feel its insulation and performance. For the price currently with the promotion goodies, it looks pretty worthy.

It looks worthy??
do u know how to calculate the cost of the price and profit margin? Do u know your paper value at the end of S trim, because of VES rebate, only $4k.

for a $18k omv, the depreciation is more than $9k per year.

The price on its own maybe I can understand. But this is with VES rebate, which the Govt rebate is $10k for our tax.

weird thing is I don’t see it passed on to the buyers.

u can compare to other cars but other cars does not have VES rebate. Depre lower. Also, this avante at such price point for a $18k omv isn’t a bnb car anymore..

Bro. I am referring to the Elite model which has an OMV of more than $20k. These days, easily most cars depreciation is around $8k to 10k. From the safety equipment offerings aspect, I personally think is worthy. Others can think otherwise is ok. Each has different perspective.

More than $20k is how much? Not sure yet ma. Elite is $105k then.
$8k to $10k is a lot of diff. That’s $2k depre a year.
anyway my point is about VES rebate. It should be a further $10k off. Hope u get it.

What are the specs like for the Elite model? Does it come with the safety sense tech?

In addition to the specs of the "S" model, "Elite" has a cruise control that adjusts it speed according to the car in front, they call it "adaptive or smart cruise control"? Safety sense as in like auto braking wasn't mention. Other than this, it has sunroof, LED headlights, front electric adjustment and cooling seats. Probably that's all I can remember.

This could be the cheapest car with Adaptive Cruise Control.  Kudos to Hyundai.

Yes you are right. Many traditional buyers still believe in the Japanese brand for a basic car. What they didn't realize is the average jap car these days are mostly thai made with lower cost technologies and engine designs, all to fit within the general ASEAN region affordability. The exception being Mazda, gone are the days where u can expect to get proper Japanese made car with latest trendy design from many Japanese brands

So you booked the new avante without test drive?

🙂
Well..No need test drive for me to confirm my booking (also can't test now too)..although the deposit of $5k is just to book the first batch of stock with the colours you want, however since I have tested current Avante before, I strongly believe the new one will be much better..

I believe our Elite model will be closest to this test model. This is the top spec 1.6L in Korea.. 17in wheels as shown

Please turn up the volume, this guy said part of the rear hatch is made of plastic as reg steel stamping would be quite difficult to produce the sharp angles and creases...

CVT= alot of noise but not picking up much speed (acording to the reviewer :D ) He also said no power...

you are right..

reliability is depend on individual as well because given the same number of Years  ownership , the mileage and care on  the ride is defer from each person.

As long as one is happy with it is important.

I booked the new avante elite. What wow me isn't the look and the ugly grills but more of the features they offered.

@Jqbear,

Wow! That's $105K with a scrap value of $4K = Annual depreciation of $11K.

Congratulations on your purchase and enjoy your new ride soon.

If indeed there is a $10k VES rebate, calculation shld be $20k (assuming OMV is this) - $10k and 50% of that meaning $5k scrap value so annual depreciation is $10k.

Not picking on small numbers but even without this $10k VES deducted, scrap value would otherwise have been $10k ie annual depreciation is $9.5k instead so we talking about $5k difference over 10yrs which whilst it's still $, it's not really a major deal breaker esp for buyer who likes the car.
