Hi,

A second hand car viewed my current car and asked if I intend to retain the number plate. I wonder if I retain the number plate, how does it affect the resale value of my car ?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Won't affect the resale value. But you need to pay the transfer fee to port the car plate to your next car.

assuming your next car is not yet purchased, can still hold on to old plate number while waiting for new car to be delivered?

Maybe if he has a super nice and auspicious car plate, the 2nd hand dealer might offer higher resale value if he does not want to retain the car plate? Lol. But if he wants to retain his car plate, indeed he needs to pay either $100 to register to another new car or $1300 to another used car.

Just to add on. The car no can be retained for 1 yr only. I mean u need to use that plate within a yr on your next car.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Can hold for 1 year. You pay 1300 now to retain, and if later used on new car, you get back 1200. If used on used car, then no refund.

confirm.

Guess the sequence and timing need to be planned properly.

If you transferred the "Other old car" into your ownership first then do a number retention from your existing "old car" to this "Other old car" then should be $1300 only.

Of cos like you mentioned from one Old Car THEN to another Old Car total is $2600..

Importantly you like the plate lah and hopefully some investment value loh.
