Same. Pick up a nice sports car to drive on the occasional weekend.

by the time who knows EQS and the ev 7 series might have taken over Singapore towkays

It is a matter of time for other makes to introduce their full EV offering to level the playing field. 45k is not substantial for the premium S400 and 740i but Tesla has been cutting prices (sometimes up to 25%), so very soon the $100-150k  mass market segment will be hit.

I am still trying to figure out how the charging network will work when this point is reached.  If I can’t park and charge overnight and have to wake up in the middle of the night to swap lots, i rather stay with ICE for now.

Would tend to agree with you. The initial bump will be due to pent up demand from people who want to be first adopters and accept the limitations. After which the growth will likely slow due to all the concerns already listed ( Fire, Charging, Insurance ). So the long queues at the charging stations are not likely to happen so soon.

As for the post from the malaysian website that mentioned 5000 orders for Tesla Singapore. That is quite unlikely and even if true, its still not clear how many of them are spending 150 to chope a spot vs actually willing to buy once the car arrives.

My friend is in management council of his 200-units atas condo, 5 residents have booked the Tesla and ask MCST to get the charger in by mid 2021.

Budget debate: Road tax for mass-market electric cars in S'pore to be lowered from next year

Not say a lot of lowering. Also, cannot say very little lowering.

Tesla Model 3 road tax will drop from $2.3k to $1.5k.  That $800 can drive 12k km le.

Roughly comparable to a 2.0T plus 300 surcharge. Almost can consider if not for its plain interior.  Hope other EV alternatives with similar performance and price will come soon.

Minister was misleading when he said those figures. He deliberately did not include the fixed road tax inside. You can verify if u like by punching your calculator.

Without flat component, it is $1,009

There is a mistake in the article. The Tesla Model 3 has a power of 239kW, therefore is unaffected by the road tax change. It should therefore still remain at about $2500 per year.

That figure refers to the Hyundai Kona 64kwH model (before adding the fixed road tax component)

I feel owning an EV brings about a change in mindset as well. Because while you can only pump petrol going to the petrol station, you can charge an EV while you are getting ur groceries or having ur lunch etc. Effectively, chances of you having to explicitly "wait" to charge an EV is not that much often.

If one is not prepared to change his or her lifestyle of owning a car, then EV will never be seen as practical. No doubt infrastructure is not there yet, but if one is resistant to change, even if there is 1million chargers around they will still find an excuse to not owning an EV 😄

Sarpork local! If providers install many chargers at carparks near hawker centres, supermarkets etc, can help to boost their business too!

Let me put this in the most polite way possible.

I know your calculation is wrong but there is no need for me to prove it and there is no need for me to spoonfeed pri school mathematics.

I have publicised the formula.

You can check your own work. If you don't want to, that's fine too. Peace.

Sometimes I really wonder about this govt. For eons they had been so resistant and backwards towards EV acceptance.

They are willing to make concessions overnight with regards to EVs is all because of Hyundai setting up their innovation centre/limited production facilities here, isn't it? And a bigger push to increase GDP in a new manufacturing sector while the world is still reeling from the pandemic?

I mean it's all good, I'm not complaining at all and it's about time they finally decided to wake the fcuk up.

But a part of me is still skeptical of what else is going to come next, as they did made it clear the vision is to become car lite and WILL eventually make it the same cost to own an EV as an ICE vehicle.
