Sapa and Ha Long Bay is nice. Can consider going in future.Β

Vietnamese pho is awesome. But that one can just eat in Perth/melbourne lol.

Β

a few years ago (pre Covid) my KL friend and i had a plan - he would ride his motorbike up to north viet (Ha Giang) and i would fly up to Hanoi to meet him there. We wld then rent a car/SUV and explore the area. Damn cold in winter, even colder than north thai.Β

Congrats on your marriage! I'm another one late in the game but happy for you nonetheless.Β

My personal two cents is that 2023 is afterall almost a thousand days away and anything can cause your decision making to sway. From kids to in-laws to laws..Β

Generally the advice here would go against Nike.. 'Don't do it' and I go with this too as I feel that you've only just gotten married and do give yourself a bit of time to know your wife and family first as migration is a big issue and certainly a moving one, pun intended.. for all parties involved.

I guess u cannot fully know your wife from easy-going days, you can only know her from tough ones.. give her time to know u, throw a few curve balls to her and her family and see how they react first and you'll know if u should migrate then.Β

Everyone is always friendly and smiley at a party right.. when the music stops, that's only when you know who will be there still for you. Hopefully not RadX.

I also won't do it if I were you. I have been to Vietnam a couple of times. People are lovely, food was great, scenery is picturesque. But that's because I'm a tourist. When you're there, it's become your routine. Good sex when you fancy is cool. Good sex every day is tiring, I guess you get my drift.

If your wife does miss her family, you can always take a few weeks leave to visit, no need to shift there I feel. She will also miss them less when you have a full family here. Healthcare is also superior in sg since you've mentioned you're already 40. Sorry to say this but I already have friends who had heart attacks and mini strokes in late 30s and being in sg was what kept them alive. So do consider this too..

hmm probably because more emphasis on beef and the soup stock is nicer. So makesΒ it more hearty and more like a meal.

I go australia to eat vietnamese food. I try to eat one asian and 1 western meal a day for lunch/dinner when I'm in the cities. Suburbs or small towns then LL

Β

Β

Same same, everytime i am in Sydney or Melbourne, i will hunt for some good Vietnamese and Chinese seafood restaurants, can't be eating steaks and lambchops everyday.

Actually Australian cuisineΒ is pretty diverse these days. Good and super fresh ingredients and a large immigrant population, yummyΒ fusion food.

Chinatown plenty vietnamese cuisine.

I love their vermicelli soup especially during winter. Big serving and spicy(suit my low level of spice tolerance).😁

We must always look for the deeper meaning of life and I like to go deep.

Very deep.

I tend to agree with what you have written.

It may seem a safer process just to "test balloon" first (Oops!). After spending two years here, go and stay in her village for one or two months first and see how it goes. If things turns out right, then he can consider moving over!

Maybe when wife tell Philip she homesick is to hint him to bring her family to SG... not to have Philip move with her back to Vietnam..Β πŸ€”

Better than Vietnam as what voodooman said.

Authentic Vietnamese food is not that nice actually. U don't see any fat Vietnamese. I don't think their years of famine post Vietnam war promoted their gourmet culture. Their food culture was more survival food.Β

Vietnamese food zhnged up to feed overweight aussies is better.Β

And I don't want to go Vietnam anyway.Β

actually cuisine is quite a fascinating way to learn a countrys history. famines im told, necessitates using ingredients people normally ignore. bugs and such i suppose.

after the famine is over, due to acquired taste, some foods stick around. so i have heard.

with msg and sugar, thai food has really zhnged up a lot. not that i am for it 100%... just that subtle tastes are no longer found in food sellers looking to make a quick buck and keep customers hooked.

although the vietnamese food is more premium and what we are more used to eating in oz, i find the chinese food, depending on where you go, full of msg and lacking in flavor for the lower end places. the caifun here is better than what it is in oz. but some higher end places there are truly value for money, my god... crocodile, king crab, abalone, oyster... i never feastedΒ like that in sgp...

but in vietnam, i had goat udder bbq.. cant say it was nice, but almost everything was some innard or parts that are considered a discard in oz... lol...

The only thing I did not enjoy in Vietnam was live lobster blood mixed with rice wine which I had to drink.

Why can't they just leave the blood in the lobster,Β let me eat the cooked lobster and drink the rice wine?

When need to go all modern and deconstruct the dish?

:D

Apart from that everything else was nice in Vietnam.

I had not had bugs in Vietnam or seen people eat it.

Maybe because they took me to the seafood restaurant and the foodΒ was nice.Β

Hmm usually i just pick places with google reviews of 4 stars +.Β Of course not everything is a hit but good enough.

Not a fan of the vietnamese rice rolls though.Β

When marrying someone must choose a country that you like to stay in.

I like to stay in Japan but only my MILΒ is Japanese and not my wife.

My MIL is a very native Japanese
