ODO Mileage Tampering

TC revealed cause they are the owner of the car now, whereas for your case you are not the owner of that vios.

All AD practice that way.

Actually I'm surprised at the case, because it says Tan Chong revealed the last mileage.

I tried to call Borneo to ask about a used Vios that i considered buying to renew COE. BM refused to divulge any details about the car, except the last servicing date.

They cited PDPA, and said cannot divulge customer's data...

Not sure whether after buying an AD car, whether they will definitely reveal the servicing record.

which is not going to be very useful if you can't ask AD for details and the car is a tampered one.  then again, the previous owner might not go back AD for regular servicing anyway.

now AD dont release such info anymore unless u are the owner

No need to know the previous servicing done. Ask when is the next servicing due as u had just taken over the car. And mentally calculate backwards to check if mileage is accurate.

I believe they will tell u when the next servicing is due right? Cant be they say dont go to them for servicing. [laugh]

quite a few car buyers especially those whose AD warranty are over already, don't go back to AD for servicing.  for me i do keep all my servicing receipts in case needed to prove to next buyer.  it will be great if preowned car dealers can start an industry practice to show such receipts to the prospective car buyers.

Not all ADs. At least one of them will not release even if you are the new owner provided you can get the previous owner's consent and that is not always possible if you bought the car from a dealer.

And when you pass all the papers to the dealer you sell your car to, chances are the dealer will not pass the papers to the next buyer because the odo will be adjusted.

You prefer your gf/wife to tell you she got 3 ex bfs or 30 ex bfs ?

Someone will say, having 30 ex bfs who were caring and loving towards her is better than having just 3 abusive bfs.

where to find virgin these days.

sometimes I prefer white lies, though with experience can tell whether is is lying or not. If she walk leg open wide wide and tell u she is virgin and u still believe then u have to blame urself

I didn't know virgins walk with legs closed together.

Guys, which do u prefer? A seemingly clocked car with low mileage or one with actual high mileage but serviced meticulously?

Last year, I made a choice when I sold my Edix and got another MPV. Tested two cars. The supposed LOW MILEAGE one was rickety like shiet. The one with high mileage was a magic carpet ride and fully serviced at Tan Chong. I bought it at 250k KMs btw. One year on, bo major tai chi and smooth like silk. So don't be silly and naïve that the car is low mileage when it is certainly clocked and we pay MORE for it. I prefer it to be actual mileage. The key is in the servicing.

Possible.

But it can also be like what bro Lightbringer said in post http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2660566-used-car-dealers-adjusting-mileage/?p=6089640

That ADs simply might not want to help at all...

unless police case...

it won't be police case if there is no specific statute governing it.  that's why the parliament should enact a statute.  its efficacy is in deterrence (car dealer) as well as compliance (car dealers including AD which will have the business justification to reveal the information).

Possible.

what LTA could have done is to enact anti-tamper laws. like that with the risk of criminal liabilities by the executive director, then they will think twice before tampering.

The problem is, how to enforce it? It is almost impossible and definitely not feasible to enforce it. There will be thousands of cases to investigate and prosecute given the number of cars and transactions. There can be countless complexities and is difficult to prove also. And then next people will ask the government to have anti every other law for every consumer goods to protect them. Edited by Ingenius

I already qualify this rule effectiveness is to act as deterrent which requires no effort on enforcement. If you think this request is frivolous then you are also branding frivolous, the other countries who already enacted a similar law.

Next people will say what's the point of enacting a law but don't enforce? After a while the dealers know the law is not enforceable, then have law or no law also no deference liao.

Doesnt mean 0 enforcement la. With criminal liabilities hanging over their head, many dealer will think twice. For the odd few gungho ones, enforcement will kick in when someone reports them to the police. Then they because a case law and example to deter the few unscrupulous dealers yet to commit the crime. Otherwise, without the law, they will only suffer monetary loss and no criminal liabilities. Much more dealers will dare to tamper. Edited by Acemundo

bottom line is must have laws to protect consumers from this type of dishonest people....rogues!

no enforcement means they can do anything above the law to cheat the common people like u & me!!!

need to bring them to justice and also warn the rest don play play......really feel cheated if u happen to be one poor customer ....
