Well in this case, this naturalised citizen also has a hard time differentiating overseas chinese not equal to prc chinese. Maybe need another one or two generation to fully assimilate.

Surprised he is a hongky. Guess not all of them are rebellious umbrella supporter.

Hmmm... this seem to suggest he was receiving from someone to do a job,  and not paying to to do a job. Or perhaps too sensitive to elaborate ... after all the money laundering case reportedly made contributions to various entities too.

From article

"As a designated politically significant person, Mr Chan would have to make annual disclosures to the authorities of political donations of $10,000 or more that he has received and accepted, and declare his foreign affiliations and any migration benefits."

Similar to the piano player case in England.  Those involved call themselve British citizens but openly doing influence ops for ccp... to the point MI5 flagged them already as persons of interest.

Why take foreign citizenship instead of stay home then 🤬

Actually can but just not those from China and India who still think they are superior since they come from bigger country than us but only want to take advantage of our passport. We get those from smaller country that know they're lucky to even be here and have no desire to ever go back to their homeland they sure will integrate

Not all la..

I know a ordinary PRC lady who married local many years liao.

Use to always say China good. Recently suddenly say don't feel like going back this year cos of 人民素质不好 ("quality of people no good" for English speakers) 😅.

But the privileged class who are part of and enjoyed advantages from being "in the system".. different lor.

I wouldn't blame it fully on the CCP though.

There are many who seem to feel a primal need to belong or identify with China due to culture,  skin... they don't even need to be approached with benefits.

Though imo, Taiwanese societal landscape is better if one is seeking "Chinese- ness". 🤷‍♂️
