Reload the physical NFC card by tapping it at the back of the phone?

I know need the TnG e-wallet app.

Dude, you top up the card using the balance in your TnG e-wallet. Whatever tops up your balance in the e-wallet depends on how you reload your TnG e-wallet lor... if you choose to top up your TnG e-wallet using a Singapore credit card, then it will simply deduct from the card to top up the card... the e-wallet app doesn't do a direct debit from your credit card to the NFC TnG card... it's mediated by the e-wallet balance... and YES, you must place the NFC TnG card at the back of the phone when you want to effect a top up... in fact, you must add the NFC TnG card to the e-wallet app before you can top up... follow the instructions on screen... registering the NFC TnG card is as easy as placing the card on the back of the phone when prompted to (of course you can register it manually)... and topping up is simply selecting the card you want to top up, select the top up amount, place the card at the back of the phone, and voila! Your card is topped up...

What I do is to put in my Singapore credit card in my TnG e-wallet account and set an auto reload trigger at RM20 and an auto reload amount of RM100... so the e-wallet will automatically deduct from Singapore credit card to top up the balance in my e-wallet... when you place the NFC card at the back of your phone with the TnG e-wallet app opened to top it up, it will prompt you for the amount you want to top up the card with... if you choose an amount larger than what you have in your balance, one of two things can occur: 1) it rejects the top up cos you don't have enough balance; in this case, top up manually so you have enough money to effect the top up of the NFC TnG card, 2) it will top up your card regardless of your balance if the auto reload function is activated and will trigger an auto reload of your e-wallet balance if the existing e-wallet balance before top up of the card was insufficient and deduct the outstanding amount from the auto reload amount... so if say you have RM30 left in the e-wallet balance, and you choose to top up RM100 into your NFC TnG card, then the app will transfer RM100 to your card, then auto reload RM100 into your e-wallet, then deduct RM70 which is the outstanding amount 'owed' to the e-wallet, and you'll be left with a RM30 balance in the e-wallet. Your NFC TnG card will now have RM100. You can check the amount in the card in the app.

Hope this helps...

Sorry, suaku, the reload is using Singapore issued credit card?

No worries bro... everyone also got first time... I posted a more detailed account of how I did it further down... in essence, you top up the e-wallet balance using a Singapore credit card, you use the e-wallet balance to top up the NFC TnG card... the card isn't topped up by a direct debit of your Singapore credit card...

Wah bro..thanks very detailed.

I actually just walk into one of the 7-11 and ask the cashier to top up the TnG NFC card for me. I pass her cash, she top up direct into the card. After that I just go to e-wallet, choose the same card that I have registered before,  and then tap the card to the back of the phone. TnG E-wallet then show me the new balance for the card. 😁

Yeah... when you tapped the card at the back of your phone, you essentially registered the card with the e-wallet...

Good news if it comes

https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/smoother-entry-into-johor-in-store-when-s-pore-drivers-can-use-credit-debit-cards-for-road-charge

Quote

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is planning to allow drivers from Singapore to use their credit and debit cards to pay for the toll and road charge at the two border crossings into Johor before the third quarter of 2024, allowing them to put aside their Touch ‘n Go stored-value cards.

The government is in discussions with concessionaire Plus Expressways, which operates the payment system at the Johor checkpoints at the Causeway and Second Link, to allow foreign visitors to use their internationally recognised credit and debit cards.

Such a system will first be rolled out by September at toll booths on 11 Malaysian highways.

“In the near future, foreign visitors can use their debit and credit cards to pay the toll on highways with the open payment system option, which is an alternative platform provided for drivers to pay toll charges using Mastercard and Visa debit and credit cards, besides Touch ‘n Go cards,” Malaysia’s Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi told The Straits Times.

“Consumers will have the payment option and can travel at ease as they do not have to be worried about their Touch ‘n Go card status,” he said.

It's quite a Malaysia thing lor... create a system instead of using existing systems which can do the same thing... this credit card payment for highway tolls has been available in EU for some time already as far I am aware of...

Basically the reach of the whole TnG system may be drastically reduced once credit and debit cards can be used... perhaps it will be used mainly by those who can't afford credit cards although debit cards are available to all... and so all the money to create the TnG e-wallet, RFID system will all go to waste... although maybe the e-wallet will still be widely used for small transactions which is still more convenient than having to draw cash...

Nice one Anwar

:D

When he had a dialogue with the youths recently, one of them questioned him about the monopoly payment/toll collection by T n G for donkey years. He promised to loo into it.

After a long while, I finally received my VEP RFID tag.

Question for the regular-crossers, while crossing causeway, if your TnG eWallet has insufficient/no money, with the RFID pasted on headlamp, can I then pay with my physical TnG card?

I have a non-NFC card loaded with over RM$250 since pre-covid, website said card is still valid, I just wanted to use that money first.

Thanks in advance.

You tap your card before you get close enough for the reader to detect your RFID tag...

If you have money in your physical TnG card, VEP can debit from the card. Just link it to your TnG app.

NFC is for top up.

What is PayDirect?

PayDirect is a feature that allows you to link your physical Touch 'n Go card to your Touch ‘n
Go eWallet account. If you tap your card at a PayDirect-supported terminal, the charges will
be deducted from your eWallet instead of your physical card. If the eWallet does not have
sufficient funds, fares will be deducted from the Touch ‘n Go card.

PayDirect enables users to add up to FIVE (5) physical Touch ‘n Go cards into the eWallet for toll usage.

The physical Touch ‘n Go card that has been added into the eWallet will be used as a medium to pass through “Touch ‘n Go” and “SmartTAG” lanes at participating highways.

When users pass through the toll booths, the toll fares will be deducted from the eWallet. If the eWallet does not have sufficient funds, fares will be deducted from the Touch ‘n Go card.

I actually switch off the PayDirect thing.

I only use TnG app to scan and verify how much $$ inside my TnG NFC card.
