Page 3 of Aion V emergency rescue manual show that an external device is required to unlock and open the door from the outside by first responders in case of a car crash. I.e. deployment of air bags. This means the Aion V would not comply with a new safety requirements for door handles. Hence the need of a re-design on the electrically operated retracted door handle. Its only a possible tax evasion if you are importing the same car with the same spec, which you declare it as $10 initially but on later batches you declare it as $5. Singapore Customs will be asking questions. However, transfer price from one business to another business Singapore Customs has no say. Because this is about private business profits from one entity to another. It's like importing in a carton of beer by 7-11 main franchisor. 7-11 main franchisor can sell the same carton of beer to a 7-11 franchisee with a mark-up. Transfer pricing is ALWAYS challengeable by Customs and Tax authorities. But here seldom be bothered. Just look at the ridiculously low OMW of some used import. The handle is only electrically retracted, but it's spring loaded and can be accessed anytime with light finger pressure. Inside it's all mechanical and can be unlocked and opened anytime even when power is off. As far as I know it functions like any other mechanical handle so I doubt it will be affected by the new rulings.

One quick glance on MGS6 spec, seems like it is better than cat A SL7. After a 10k discount, seems not a bad deal. I am quite impressed with this car. Comparing it with Atto 3. BYD branding here stronger and more aggressive in pricing. With the right COE pricing, will have to pick one.

The doors remain locked when driving as a safety feature. If there's a collision, the collision sensor is meant to unlock all the doors. The collision sensor may not work under certain crash situations (i.e. severe) as highlighted below in the owner's manual (page 172). New rules say that there must be post-accident accessibility. I.e. in events like high voltage battery thermal runaway or severe collisions, handles on the non-collision side must remain openable from the outside without tools to allow for emergency rescue. Will see if Aion V's current door handles complies with the new GB standard on Safety Technical Requirements for Vehicle Door Handles. It's going to be a simply "yes" or "no" answer. If the answer is no - then what is GAC / VinCar / EV Hub is going to do to make it right for current and future owners of Aion V / Y and Hyptec rides? The UT, ES and E9 appear to have regular door handles - so there's a good likelihood it will comply.

What is the difference between this and an old ICE car if you dont have the mechanical key? Its not like old ICE cars the doors auto unlock in a crash.

Yes I agree. But I did not want a power nerf'ed car which I think is very stupid when the factory hardware is for double or more output but artificially nerfed. Now other Cat B's, price wise is worth it vs. say the BYD Cat B, but our damn road tax system gives unfair penalty to 231kw and above. So Lan lan. If Cat A, no question. MGS5 over Atto 3 any day. Maybe I wasn't clear in the previous post, but the following article from Auto Blog clarifies on why China is banning retractable door handles from 1 January 2027 on all new models: https://www.autoblog.com/news/china-is-banning-tesla-style-retractable-door-handles-over-safety-concerns. GAC and other Chinese BEV manufacturers with models that have retractable door handles that make their ride look futuristic, sleek, aerodynamic and premium are all affected. Just like what Tesla did with their models. With GAC copying and following Tesla's flush door handle design on some it's models - it now has safety concerns and consequences. Was surprised that 15 people have died so far, when their Tesla's door handle couldn't be opened after a severe accident. Xiaomi SU7 fire incident is what caused China regulator scrutiny. Tesla makes a lot of cars for the Chinese market and exports some of them to the rest of the world, especially to RHD markets such as Singapore. Tesla's chief designer (Franz von Holzhausen) has confirmed that the door handle design will change. ICE car might not have the collision sensor for door handles, because the typical ICE door handle isn't the flush retractable type that needs an electric motor to "pop" open the handle in the event of a severe collision. GAC would have another 25 months once the GB standard is issued and make good on existing models such as the Aion V, Y and Hyptec to comply. Or else risk not being able to legally sell in the world's largest car market. So sometime from 1 January 2027 February 2029. Curious to know if GAC will come up solution with or simply kill off the models with retractable door handles all together.
