steveting99 2nd Gear April 15 Share April 15 (edited) MG, the British brand which is now Chinese owned (SAIC) is about to release their replacement model for the outdated ZS electric vehicle - called MGS5. The unique thing about the MGS5 is the rear wheel drive setup, it'll make it much more fun and engaging compared to competitors which are front wheel drive configuration. Built on the same EV platform as the MG4 hatchback, the compact SUV is bigger - see comparison table below. It's also longer, wider and with a longer wheel base than the outgoing ZS model (see comparison tables further down). It's going to be a Cat A vehicle (save some $$$) and power output is limited to 99kW with 250Nm of torque. Good enough to do zero to 100km/hr under 10 seconds. This will be a good B&B ride with lots of standard features. One of these is a 12.8" infotainment center display shown below. Below the center screen there are physical buttons for AC, temperature control and fan speed! Also volume control! The AC vents have physical adjustments. This makes it easy for most to make adjustments - while keeping eyes on the road. Great safety feature that most international buyers want. Good to see that MG (via SAIC) has been listening to customers. Gear selection and parking breaking is located in the center console. The interior of the MGS5 is a step up from the outgoing ZS. Better fit and finish overall. Driver gets a 10.2" display. Some selected specs are: * Battery capacity of 62kWh using LFP chemistry; * WLTP estimated range of 425km; * AC charging of 6.6kW; * DC charging of 150kW. Fast charging of 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes; * Boot space of 453L and 1,423L with the rear seats folded down; * Vehicle weight of 1,755kg; * Energy consumption of 17.1 kWh/100km (claimed); * Panoramic sunroof (have to check it it comes with a sunshade for the hot climate here in Singapore); * Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - both wired and wireless options are available; and * ADAS Level 2 safety features - called MG Pilot Advance Driver Assistance Systems. Pricing is around $168k and the AD is Eurokars Group. Once LTA release some registration data, can get the OMV and see AD markup - will make a follow up post. Competition in the compact SUV segment is going to be tough. MGS5 will be competing against the likes of BYD Atto 3, Aion V, Geely EX5/Proton eMas7 and Cherry Omoda E5 to name a few - see tables below on options available over the causeway. There will be more competitors on the way. Its a good time to be a EV consumer. steveting99 2nd Gear April 19 Author Share April 19 Interesting review on the MGS5 from Nepal Ground clearance of 180cm. Panoramic sunroof opens up to let air in. Surprised on the energy consumption being higher than the claimed value.

steveting99 2nd Gear April 28 Author Share April 28 This news article is a bit old (mid 2024), but MG announces extended lifetime warranty for four models to celebrate 100 years. Believe MGS5 in Singapore also comes from Thailand. The lifetime warranty covers the High-Voltage Battery (HV BATTERY ASSY), Electric Drive Unit (EDU) and Power Electronic Bloc (PEB). How come Eurokars Group is not offering lifetime warranty on the MGS5?
steveting99 2nd Gear May 20 Author Share May 20 Technical specs for MGS5 from Eurokars is below. Don't know what's the use of having heated front seats and heated steering wheel in Singapore? Thought ventilated front seats would have been more useful. The plastic (PVC) and fabric material of the seats and manual adjustment on the front passenger is a bit disappointing - definitely not premium. The MGS5 is priced around the same as Aion V and probably more than the upcoming Geely EX5 / Proton eMas7. Eurokars is going to have a hard time selling the MGS5 - unless one likes the badge and real wheel drive feel.
FromA2B2C 1st Gear May 24 Share May 24 (edited) Been without a car for many years, “enjoying” travelling on buses and mrt. But eventually the convenience of owning one comes too often in family conversations so decided to own one. After debate between hybrids and EV, we eventually settled on the MGS5 EV. Availability of charging points in the condo I stay in helps We test driven Emas 7, Atto 3, Honda Cross and consider Aion V, Seres, Zeekr, Lexus LBX. Eventually settle on MGS5. i guess considering the price, drive and features the MGS5 is our choice. And yes, roll eyes on heated and not ventilated seats/steering. But I wonder whether that will come useful when the rest of passengers wanted super cold aircon. Edited May 24 by FromA2B2C 3

Car definitely brings a lot of convenience especially if different family members need to go different places to get things done. can elaborate on MG5 vs Atto 3 vs Aion V? Since all china and roughly same price point +- few k.
FromA2B2C 1st Gear May 24 Share May 24 @Lala81 We did not test drive the Aion. We all are new to EV and thus the idea of fridge/warmer elevate our battery concerns. Both daughters and wife do not like the looks too. We test drive its neighbour, Emas 7 though which was in similar price range. Same dealer. Emas 7 has almost everything in its favour. Driving is smooth and energetic, electrical seats, abundant features and good interior space. The only thing going against it, at least to me, is reservations on continue dealer support. Also Android Auto is still not supported. Not important to me as I use Apple. Atto 3 drive was ok. The interior was a bit tacky for us. Seat comfort was pretty good. The ladies all like it but I am hesitant. With all the marketing, multiple dealers and sales volume somehow make me hesitant on after sales care MG S5 drive feels better controlled than the rest. I can “feel” the road, acceleration is smooth and control. Features wise is comparable. Basically it is like fitting the basic good needs without too much fanfare. In the end, it was an over lunch discussion between Emas, Atto and MG. The ladies eventually agreed on my hesitancy on dealer support though all pointed out we could just go over the causeway for local attention. One daughter select Atto 3 because of better back seat, more attractive screen apps and popularity. The other daughter, who drives, goes for MG for more comfortable driver seat, better screen, driver visibility and drive and Android Auto. So need me to break the tie. Haha, MG is it and the Atto daughter gets to decide on the color. ↡ Advertisement
