It is everything culture, like it or not, it is the hard true. Even if we have a good selection of female ministers now, it is still going to take a while before one can become a DPM, even a longer while for a female PM. For a fair comparison, 1 out of 97 in the pap pool vs 1 out of 26 in the WP pool, even a pap drop out might seem quite good if he/she cross over to WP. If HTR had gone over to PAP, she become a small fish in a big pond, and she won't get to be so aggressive so freely, not so easy to shine anymore. 

Same thing with NS and AH, if they have gone to PAP, might not even be fielded in an election, but they made waves in WP. 

It is not so much who you are, but where you are. HTR kind of candidate, there is no lack in PAP, their problem is they needed better ones to become future leaders in each Ministry. 

Between HTR and GSH, GSH beat HTR flat anytime in a race to be the first DPM or even PM, in the assumption that they are both from the ruling party.

Traditionally, WP doesn't work on a  Deputy, so the chair is the "official" 2IC and vice chair 3IC, if HTR cannot even move up within WP to the chair position, how is she any good as a candidate for the DPM if she wear white instead?

The next question, is WP ready for a female leader? If HTR is so good, will WP consider her as their next leader of opposition?

He lost isn't it? 

If WP had given it to faisal than it show a stagnate political party with no forward vision in place. It would be hard to attract future highest calibre of candidates.

Is it the evolving electorates background that realigned wp strategic. Gone are the days of teochew (dialects) speaking contesting in the election. Demographic changes. Old folks passing on.
