The international version of BYD's Denza Z9GT (2026 model) has made it's debut over in across seven European countries, including France, Germany Italy, and Spain. It's an uber luxury vehicle as well as the flagship in the Denza brand.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_01.thumb.jpg.78c111e3c58f01a97902cf08569498af.jpg

So it wont be cheap as the starting price is from 115k euros! The luxury wagon will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric (BEV) variants.

Design by ex-Alfa Romeo, ex-Audi and ex-Lamborghini design chief Wolfgang Eggar, it's a beautiful looking ride. A new green exterior color marks the 2026 model.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_03.thumb.jpg.4e3fca9c1323a2a967055dd09b11589d.jpg

The 2026 Z9GT is going international, so it'll be available in both Left Hand Drive (LHD) as well as Right Had Drive (RHD) markets. Already confirmed to come to this part of the world with Oz getting their units in Q3 2026 according to The Driven article here: https://thedriven.io/2026/04/09/byds-denza-z9gt-confirmed-for-australia-with-5-minute-flash-charging-tech/

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_04.thumb.jpg.30ccb7f5c5e905f972904c5e95120916.jpg

The shooting brake style of the Z9GT comes in three variants.

The PHEV variant (currently only available in mainland China) features a 152kW turbocharged 2.0L four-pot petrol engine. This petrol engine is combined with a 200kW electric motor up front, plus dual 220kW electric motors at the rear for a total system output of 640kW. The Z9GT uses the latest DM-i 5.0 hybrid system. The revised battery pack is the new Blade 2.0 version at 63.8kWhr capacity (+31.3kWhr more than the older 2024 model), thereby boosting its CLTC electric range from 201km to 400km or about 320km in WLTP figure (+155km more electric range than the older 2024 model). Total driving range is 1,301 km in CLTC test cycle or about 1,050km in WLTP. PHEV's top speed is 230 km/hr. The older model has a listed fuel consumption under battery-depleted conditions of 6.3L per 100 kilometers. Will post an update once the new fuel efficiency number is known for the 2026 model. Dimensions of the Z9GT is as follows.

Length: 5,195mm

Width: 1,990mm

Height: 1,490mm

Wheelbase: 3,125mm

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_05.thumb.jpg.98123ceaf8a75551995c5b3ecfd8131f.jpg

The second variant is a rear-wheel drive BEV with 370kW of power. Battery pack capacity with the new Blade Battery 2.0 has been increased to 122.496kWh (+22.396kWhr more than the older 2024 model) - giving a range of 1036km based on the lenient CLTC testing cycle, most likely around 840km under WLTP (an amazing +370km more than older 2024). That's more than sufficient range for the durian run from Singapore to Genting.😃

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_06.thumb.jpg.b618f6a6c53eb5eba64ec9b1cf1e43d1.jpg

The top end variant is the BEV tri-motor All Wheel Drive (AWD) setup. The front motor produce 230 kW (same as the older version) and 430 Nm of torque. However, the rear motors have been upgraded to produce 310 kW and 400 Nm for each unit, resulting in a total system output of 850 kW (+140kW more) and 1,210 Nm (+100 Nm higher than the older version). Claimed century sprint in blistering 2.7 seconds with a top speed of an insane 269 km/h![bounce1]

A smaller 102.33 kWhr Blade 2.0 battery pack is available in China for the shorter range version of 820km CLTC (about 670km WLTP).

BYD plans to build 6,000 overseas flash charging stations globally by the end of 2026, with 3,000 of them located in Europe. There are plans to install flash charging stations in Oz, so it's a just a matter of time before they arrive on the shores of Singapore and Malaysia. Speaking of Malaysia, the 2026 Z9GT will arrive over the causeway in 2026 according to this article here: https://paultan.org/2026/03/04/denza-z9-gt-coming-soon-to-malaysia-5-18m-long-shooting-brake-flagship-confirmed-1h-2026-launch/. So most likely Sime Darby will be making it also available to some deep pocketed Singaporeans around the same time.

Will do follow up posts on interior and feature set of the 2026 Denza Z9GT.

How you should drive a BYD or Denza in a narrow back lane of "China town" in Beijing.

Goes to show even with sophisticated EV, one should be very SLOW and skillful in navigating places when there are people and children.

The interior of the 2026 Denza Z9GT should make Audi, BMW and mercedes Benz (aka ABB) a bit nervous.

 The luxury feel starts with real Nappa leather seats and diamond stitching. There's also real wood grain paneling.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_02.jpg.f7f90cace33635b28ece0fe60a8fae82.jpg

The front seats have heating, ventilation and massage functionality. There's also leg rest for zero gravity rest feature. The amazing thing is that the rear two outer seats also have these features.

The driver's seat is fully electrically adjustable as well as the steering column - so anyone can find a comfortable seating position. The side bolsters are pneumatically inflatable and adjusts during cornering to keep the driver tightly in the seat. The compressed air comes from the air suspension system.

 Denza_Z9GT_interior_10.jpg.a0af062068b2bef4e8fc3c636e1a8469.jpg

Between the front passengers is a 4L fridge / heater. It can cool up to minus 6 degrees Celsius and heat up to 50 degrees Celsius. According to Denza officials, this fridge can fit six Coca-Cola bottles.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_12.jpg.79b9f7c8ec064d63e09b0d4ad520955e.jpg

The rear passengers don't loose out, as they get their own 10L fridge in the center seating area. The fridges are useful for long-distance travel, providing easy access to refreshments during road trips.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_07.thumb.jpg.da292b631e9accd141f0e7b5ec305b6e.jpg

However, the rear 10L refrigerator impacts trunk space and restricts the ability to completely fold down the second-row seats. Rear boot capacity is less than 500L.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_01.jpg.ee4955b15a0c2b27327a71719bf6f55c.jpg

There are three large screens at the front powered by BYD's 4nm DiLink smart cockpit chip. Driver gets a nice 13.2" 2.5k resolution display.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_14.jpg.1525a85fcd06b010ec84c3719656d0f0.jpg

There’s a huge central infotainment screen that rotates through 90 degrees, allowing either a portrait or landscape configuration. The Z9GT gets the biggest one at 17.3". There’s also a front passenger display of 13.2" and up to 16 cameras.

The 2026 Z9GT model gets a three spoke steering wheel (four spoke for the older 2024 model) and the metal gear selector is now at the steering column, the previous 2024 version had a crystal gear selector at the center column.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_02.jpg.e146cc4caaf2549202c5ea3ecb4abd16.jpg

The Z9GT gets a 26-speaker sound system from specialist French audio brand Devialet that can do Dolby Atmos surround sound and pump out 1,210W.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_11.thumb.jpg.250a092b9f804d8cf9a35024f04b5259.jpg

A cool feature that mimics Rolls-Royce is the way the driver’s door closes when you sit inside and press the brake pedal. However, the more expensive R&R doesn’t close the door on voice command, which the Z9GT can do. Another feature copied from R&R is the wheel center caps that remain upright when the car is rolling.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_13.thumb.jpg.4119b22f837370595b5e1ee701693cbf.jpg

Looks like there's two sunroofs on the Z9GT. One for the front and another at the rear.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_09.thumb.jpg.1983802ecb0683ca5a543183b2ff54dc.jpg

The 3.1m wheelbase means there's plenty of space for both the front and rear passengers. Can easily fit three adult passengers at the back.

A new “Lava Red” interior option is available for the 2026 Z9GT, with sporty integrated seats, a carbon fiber interior package and a one-touch Boost racing paddle. New air vent designs and exclusive badging are provided.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_03.thumb.jpg.afebf21f5d7f5d4969086a5b39062fff.jpg

A 50" AR-HUD, a digital rearview mirror are also part of the package. Optional are two additional screens for the digital side mirrors on the door cards.

Denza_Z9GT_interior_06.thumb.jpg.9f4a9149d7991c09dd6b088d203b16c3.jpg

Twin 50W Qi2 wireless charging mats are provided at the front center console. Physical buttons are also provide with manual air vents - a smart move by Denza to reduce friction of having to access AC and volume via the touchscreen. Apparently there is another wireless charger for the rear seat passengers.

For someone with deep pockets, it will be cheaper than the Porsche Panamera - so get ready to shake the money tree and see if enough mullah drops down to get one of these uber luxury rides.

One of the great technological feats that BYD has implemented and will probably be a game changer to the rest of us is ultra fast DC charging with the next generation of Blade Batteries - referred to as 2.0. BYD calls it Flash Charging as shown below.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_10.thumb.jpg.d6ca2aff2f8f658a540810bc74ef6426.jpg

The Z9GT will be one of first international models to have this feature. The other is the PHEV people mover called the Denza D9 DM-i, which has a slower DC charging rate (559kW), but due to the smaller high voltage battery pack, the timing is about the same.

BYD's flash charging is way better than Tesla's Superchargers. Both in terms of power delivery and speed to reach a certain State Of Charge (SoC). The big idea is that filling up the big 122.496kWh battery on the Z9GT will take no longer than filling up petrol at a gas station, but a lot more easier.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_11.thumb.jpg.aef12ee8454c7880bcaf4c02ff6bb6d4.jpg

The combination of BYD's short Blade Battery 2.0 and the T-shaped flash charger that can pump out 1,500kW of energy into the Z9GT gives those incredible charging time numbers.

The unique design of the T-shaped charger means the charging cable is suspended by a railing system above. Thus there's a weight transfer to a higher point - similar a curtain at a window, that opening can be done easily with one hand. No more struggling/fighting with a big, heavy cable on the ground and dragging it with two hands to plug into the charging port.  Will be easy-peasy going forward.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_09.thumb.jpg.c3dc8bc8f81ccd363a282d773fb2373a.jpg

Each T-shaped charger has two identical cabinets that house around 200kWhr of the new Blade Batteries 2.0. These are then connected via the third power electronics cabinet which can provide up to 1,500kW of power to a single charging cable or 2x1,000kW if both charging cables are being used on independent vehicles. The charging cables are liquid cooled.

Similar to Tesla's Superchargers, the Blade Batteries 2.0 act as a buffer between the grid and the vehicle being charged to provide rapid ultra fast power and not cause voltage drops due to the high drain on the incoming current of the grid. The grid can provide power at a steady pace to top up the Flash Charger batteries, while the charging station waits for the next vehicle to charge up. It's called Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Below is a real life demo of the Denza Z9GT under going ultra fast DC charging using BYD's new Flash Charger somewhere in Europe. Believe this is the first Flash Charger rolled out in Europe by BYD.

In the Youtube from Felix Hamer, the Z9GT nailed all of BYD's claims pretty much dead-on. Starting from a 10% state of charge, the Z9GT shooting brake reached:

  • 20% in 50 seconds;
  • 33% in 1 minute 50 seconds;
  • 40% in 2 minutes 30 seconds;
  • 50% in 3 minutes 18 seconds;
  • 60% in 4 minutes 20 seconds;
  • 70% in 5 minutes 20 seconds;
  • 80% in 6 minutes 32 seconds;
  • 90% in 8 minutes;
  • 95% in 9 minutes; and
  • 97% in 9 minutes 22 seconds.

At the start of the session, the Z9GT recouped about 10% of its state of charge every 50 seconds. In the middle, it managed about 10% every minute. Charging tends to slow down considerably after 80%, to manage heat and adverse impacts to battery health. But the Denza Z9GT kept chugging along at 90% and beyond.

BYD is going to install 3,000 of their Flash Charging station across Europe according to Car Scoops article here: https://www.carscoops.com/2026/04/byd-flash-charging-europe/, so Z9Gt owners are going to enjoy the 5 minutes to ready, 9 minutes to full and add another 3 more minutes for cold weather. Its that cold weather performance that will make a huge difference for Europeans where winter temperatures drop below freezing.

Another 3,000 stations are earmarked for the rest of the world (the exception being the good old US of A). So expecting to see a few flash chargers popping up in the ASEAN region of the world, including Singapore and over the causeway by the end of 2026.

The good news is that BYD will implement the CCS2 connectors as standard for their Flash Chargers. This means every BEV is compatible!👍 Not only that, but BYD is going to roll out their Blade Battery 2.0 to their value for money B&B rides in the not so distant future. Stay tuned...

Exciting times ahead in the BEV world. [bounce1]

Some of the local competition that will be going up against the Denza Z9GT:

image.thumb.png.8546b1c7d9a16194a2aac6923460a609.png

Can understand why Porsche sales in China have been dropping for the last few years. Local ride sellers are competing quite fiercely with each other in mainland China, so legacy manufacturers (such as Porsche) are over the barrel and loosing market share. See chart below.

image.thumb.png.10ca6df2e8b6af22151e1906699345a2.png

Porsche, the luxury brand under Volkswagen Auto Group, delivered 41,938 vehicles in China in 2025, down 26.28% from 56,887 in 2024. This marks the fourth consecutive year of decline in Porsche's China deliveries.

In the Z9GT, the first thing you notice are its electric doors. All four are electrically operated and open / close at the touch of a button. Then the driver’s seat slides back to ease access – all of which adds a bit of luxury feel to the start-up process.

Comes with DiSus-A compressed air suspension system. One can tune in the stiffness of the ride to taste. The ‘Vehicle Motion Control’, which counters braking, suspension and steering in as little as 10 milliseconds, allowing the Z9GT to handle a tire blowout up to 180km/hr.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_12.jpg.79d76fbaa1c849cc9018b0677a4edc8a.jpg

There’s rear-wheel steering up to 8.5 degrees, and this gives the big Denza a supermini-like turning circle.  The Z9GT can perform pivot turning, where the front wheels lock in place and the rears turn and steer, for occasions when incredibly tight maneuvers are needed - such as parallel parking the 5.2m Z9GT boat. Denza calls this the compass turn - a throw back to school days where one is drawing a circle with a compass.

There’s also a ‘crab-walk’ function, where the car will drive diagonally up to 8.5 degrees.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_08.thumb.jpg.38aafb17acbacb2a5f89f3d21a9b8932.jpg

The following explanation from BYD on Z9GT's steering system.

Same Direction Turning – both rear wheels turn in the same direction at the same time. When steering lock is applied by the driver, the rear wheels can move together but in the opposite direction to the front wheels, creating a reverse angle to greatly reduce the turning radius. They can, in fact, reach positive and negative angles of 5 degrees.

When required, the rear wheels can turn to match the angle of the front wheels, allowing a crab-walking function that operates up to an angle of 8.5 degrees.

‘Toe-in’ Rotation – Both wheels rotate towards the centre of the vehicle. This improves stability, particularly during braking, when the system can adopt the ‘toe-in’ rotation to resist lateral disturbance.

‘Toe-out’ Rotation – Both wheels rotate away from the centre of the vehicle. When the Z9GT encounters tight parking situations or narrow parallel parking, differential control of the rear wheels in this configuration allows them to pivot around the front axle. It’s this layout that delivers the Z9GT’s incredibly tight minimum turning radius of just 5.35m, matching many compact hatchbacks.

Denza_Z9GT_exterior_07.thumb.jpg.d11fd8f942da3ed29b2b3cc12451ab13.jpg

The Z9GT is built on the “e³” (Yi San Fang) technology platform with 800V architecture. Uses the new LMFP short Blade Battery 2.0 that has 5% increase in energy density, an improved cycle life from 3,000 to 4,000 charge/discharge cycles as well as reduced degradation by 2.5% (by a new molecularly engineered SEI layer). Article from EV Infrastructure News is here: https://www.evinfrastructurenews.com/ev-battery/byd-blade-battery-2

In terms of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), the Z9GT comes with DiPilot 300 “God’s Eye” 5.0 ADAS with a roof-mounted LiDAR system. A new blue smart-driving indicator light has been added to the exterior to signal the activation of autonomous mode - most likely Singapore wont be getting this. ☹️

DENZA's latest infotainment software is call DiLink with Google integration for connected navigation and voice assistant, plus AI-powered digital assistant that is integrated to the cars functions which can be commanded through natural-speech.

Thought this article from Auto Next https://www.autonext.co/news/byd-unveils-blade-battery-2-0-ev-charging-almost-as-fast-as-refueling- explains the game changing technology that BYD is introducing with flashing charging and Blade Battery 2.0.

Z9GT will be the first international model to have this.

Tesla and other legacy auto manufacturers are now behind.

Around 6 seconds to 100 is enough for local roads. But 5.2m is too long for our car park lots.
