In MCF, there is no such thing as generation gap lah.....we have members from age ranging from 16 to 50+ coming for meetup....

Hi, was away since CNY and just got back.

 

currently still undecided about what I want to do about the engine.

 

I've added some mineral oil (20-50W) and seems the engine feels better. FC has improved quite abit...almost 196km at half tank. Previously was 130km at half.

 

Also put in some engine additive... I know it's not really the best thing to do, but it's the cheapest option for now. Kinda cash strapped at the moment.

 

Altho my intention is to drive for another 5 yrs or until COE expires...I think it's quite economical than a new car, as the interior is still ok and engine has just this problem left. Everything else is almost new.

 

Yes it's been quite awhile since we met at the friday meetups. I usually go there around 11 or later.... (when immigration is off duty)

Drop in a new engine. Especially one from Land of Rising Sun with low mileage. Stuff in bigger injectors, bigger throttle body, sport cam and manual 5-speed transmission.

 

Take the complete works. Everything. Have peace of mind for the remainder of the car's long service life.

Agreed! Buying a used engine from Japan would be cheaper than getting a complete overhaul!

Hi all,

 

for those of you who have followed my saga, here's the latest news that'll be the final chapter of my car's fate.

 

Went to another mech to do a compression test on my car.

 

Found our that the first 2(from left to right) of the 4 cylinders are below specifications.. ie cylinder 1 & 3 are 150 (not sure if psi or BHP) while cylinder 2 & 4 are 170.

 

Mech says this is still ok, but only in the short term, as sooner or later, the parts will wear off and white smoke will appear.

 

So my choices available are:

 

1)Top overhaul - maybe the problem is just at the surface. ~ $500- 800

 

2)Complete overhaul - just in case more parts are worn and need replacement. ~ $1k-2k

 

3)Import new engine - heard in Nippon land that the engine's only 3 yrs or less. ~ TBD

 

4)Live with the problem - Hard start and really bad FC. spend more on petrol and get angry.

 

5)Sell the bluddy car. ~ sell and yet refund to finance company at least $4k.

 

bear in mind that the current market dun favour resell of a COE car, I still owe the finance company a 5 figure sum and that I am in danger of being part of umployment statistic.

 

So if the bros n sis out there have some good advice, I'd like to hear it out.

overhaul a saga is cheap at malaysia becoz of the parts are very cheap. but if possible, change your car plate to a fake malaysia one becoz SG plate will result in higher price. Trust me, becoz my malaysia relative help me to repair my car (i swap my car plate with his) at 1/2 price i was quoted by the mechanic.

errrmm.. dun think I wanna risk putting a m'sian plate with a sillipore road tax disc and car park disc being displayed.

 

Not to mention my windscreen is engraved with the sillipore license.

yes, some of those additives do sometime cause those gaps to be filled up there by stoping the engine oil from getting into the combustion chamber just remember not to use engine flush when you need to replace the engine oil
