How long will you keep your Octavia

Hi all,

 

Just trying to make an informed decision here, in terms of built quality, depreciations, car problems, etc....

 

How long will you keep your Octavia and why. And what do you expect or have experienced mechanical/electrical/electronics failure and when. Please share which year and model of Octavia.

 

Appreciate your feedback.

Been driving the octavia for about coming a year now and so far no problems except my hazard light control I had to change. Other than that everything is well. Expect a VW built quality at a lower depreciation. In other words value for money.

 

Handling is great with not much bodyroll. High speeds cant feel the car float like most jap cars. Prob driving for few years.

Skoda in general are highly-rated in europe...even more reliable then VW (which I'm still trying to come to term with).

Had it for a year..., car is 4ys old though... still feels better than my previous 3yr old lancer when I bought it

 

I'll still drive this thing for a few more years than changing to another car 'cos still feels great and no other car comes close

 

Megane - Biggest boot in it's class? Have they even see the Octy's boot?

 

Car problems? So far nothing except the window lifter problem that VAG cars seem to have ....

I think both MegII and the Octy have similar boot size, but the Octy's one is more usuable of of the opening-shape and more flexible(cos it is actually a hatch in a saloon suit).

Hi,

 

I am having a Classic Dec 2002 which I have been driving since then. Safety was the main reason of taking this Mid sized car, warranty ended recently, hence these questions.

Warranty ended? How i envy you.u are free todo what u wan w/o agent askin those turbocharged superflous stupid qnestions . Octy is a good car...it will last u many years of good motoring but to each his own..u may wan to try a new brand..If de current OCty is solid then de new Octy 2...with the FSI engine.will surprise many .I had driven that in EUR and build all around is better than the new VW..(though sum pple may find it hard to cometo term with)..I mean pple improves..products improves.

Been driving my Octavia classic for 4 years now. (Bought new from JTA, ex Skoda agent). Price then was 78k, depreciation about 7k per year. Now should be lower.

 

Built quality of Skoda is great, many can attest to that. I haven't had any major problems in these 4 years, (done 108,000 km so far), except Servo recommend I change suspension 2 months ago and I changed it. Part of wear and tear, I guess. One major problem experienced by others here is the power windows failure. Mine got no problems as the 2 rear windows are manual!!!

 

I initially plan to change car last month, looking at the low low price of cars now. However, changed my mind to keep my car for 2 more years after numerous showroom visits and test drives, ie. may change car in year 6.

 

I considered Vios, Sunny, Corolla, (amazing the price they are selling at now!) but couldn't as I needed the space that Octy offered. Had to fetch clients sometimes, go Ikea sometimes, and more importantly, go golfing anytime!!

 

Next are the Cefiro, Camry, Passat, Superb etc. Very very tempted, but I couldn't stand camry interior wood panel, couldn't stand superb noisy engine (feels like driving a taxi) and interior too similar to my current Octy, and don't like cefiro fuel consumption. (I can foresee $2/litre petrol in the near future).

 

Went to see A4, Saab 93, but tell myself, why hurt my pocket now?? Looking for trouble?

 

So, I'm stuck with my humble workhorse for another 2 years, but I'm not complaining as Octy is really a great car.

Hi, some of my comments, after giving up a 1.5A Sunny for a COE 1.6A for two months. Following is a comparsion with 1.5A Sunny

 

Strength

* Good handling

* Solidly built door.

* A hatchback that looks like a sedan, not many on the market

* Very stable at high speed (110KM)

* Huge boot

* Good pick-up

 

Weakness

* Soft brake

* Power window lifter requires replacement

* short warranty period (2 years or 40,000KM)

* Poor FC (about 10.5 - 11 KM/l)

Heard about that from my CA agent too, this shipment will probaly last till end of this year, hence I don't expect to see the new Octavia till end 2006. We just have to wait...

Talk about being plain stupid.... instead of ordering so many tours they should have just brought in the new one to begin with

Tough market and for commerical reasons, if they bring in the new Octavia with an approximate OMV of 22-23K, it is not going to be competitive. Further they said they will need to stock up the new spare parts as well, driving up maintenance cost.

 

In terms of market positioning, Tour will make better sense since the price can now compete with Latio, Altis directly. Thanks also to the agressive pricing by Skoda to rid the remaining stock. For a couple of more thousand dollars, one can get a continental car build with VW engine. This message will appeal to a larger mass who wanted a alternative to Japansese and yet do not want to pay a high premium for continental make.
