Acemundo Supercharged May 24, 2005 Share May 24, 2005 cvt is something like a variable valve timing system. it may be designed to either save fuel, give better power or smooth tranmission. keke...just my layman interpretation. other bros can correct me if i am wrong. ↡ Advertisement
Acemundo Supercharged May 24, 2005 Share May 24, 2005 errh, actually it depends whether you referring to design of the sedan or the hatch. but like sean says, if i were to go for hatchback, the Astra will look coolest. actually the 307 and C4 looks good too. if we talking about the hatch, i guess its focus vs megane. that would really be a tough fight
Seansene 1st Gear May 24, 2005 Share May 24, 2005 (edited) CVT stands for Continually Variable Transmission, and it does what the name implies. Simply put, the system allows for an infinite number of gear ratios instead of the conventional fixed steps, thus theoretically providing a smooth band of power throughout the driving experience. Of course it needs to latch onto a particular engine speed if the ratios are variable, so you will usually find it at the point of maximum torque, which is where you get the greatest twisting action. The result is that people who aren't used to CVTs feel wierd as the car picks up speed, but tachometer needle and engine note don't budge at all. Fandango Neutral Newbie May 27, 2005 Share May 27, 2005 not surprising. the S40, Mazda 3 and Focus all share the same chasis and underlinings.
Silver_blade Turbocharged May 27, 2005 Share May 27, 2005 But both the S40 and mz3 drive rather differently.
Soya Supersonic May 27, 2005 Share May 27, 2005 42% of parts are shared between the S40, M3 & Focus. But these parts cannot be seen. Each still hv 58% to customise to their respective needs i.e 4 grades of steel, additional airbags, etc for S40. Hence, the major price diff too.
