  1. Hello people have been talking about how rev matching brings you a smoother ride and minimise stress to the engine. Correct me if I got the terms wrong...two methods are widely use - double de-clutching and heel-and-toe. So I curious once in a blue moon will try try a bit. Till date, maybe due to my pedal arrangement, I find it difficult to do heel and toe. Or I do not have the flexibility of a ballerina. And every time when I am in the mood to try, after several attempts, in addition to not getting anything right, I appear to temporarily forget even my normal pedal movements, i.e. I felt like a newbie. And I will like take a few seconds before I feel like myself again. Lately tried double de-clutching, way easier but find it too troublesome on Singapore roads, when I am making so many gear changes. In the end, I just drive as per normal. As long as when I down shift at the appropriate speed and gradually release the clutch no noticeable jerk can liao. So my question is - the above is also a form of rev matching right? Just that its prob not suitable for tracking. Anyway the engine is designed to take reasonable stress. Another questions that pops up - every time blip throttle when executing the 1st two method, in theory will up the fc right? Regards.
  2. Even before tuning, we also have to pick the appropriate equipment to suit the genre of music we like and listen to. I would like to find out what pairing is good and decent for the genre of music you listen to. For example, I am running on MBQuarts PCE216. I find that its more towards SQ. Its tuned towards instrumental and vocals with decent punch if required, as some of the friends here have audited it can testify. Its not the best out there, but it suited towards my musical taste. Running on Diamond D3 open air subs that give me a warm mellow and musical effect. Its still running in so I will be retuning it once its all set and done. So all said and done.... What would be decent for genres like... 1) R&B 2) Trance, House, Dance 3) Rock 4) Pop 5) Vocals 6) Orchestra/Musicals ... and the list goes on. With that, I think a lot of the newbies here would know what to look out for when purchasing brand new or 2nd hand equipment to suit their taste in music. Thanks for your sharing guys and gals!
  3. Below are 2 articles from today straits times forum section. Looks like nobody can do anything to these petrol companies. We are still going to be under their mercy to boost their incredible profits. Price matching OK if there's no collusion I REFER to last Friday's letter by Mr Tan Yu Wei, 'Why oil companies are seen as an oligopoly'. The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) will not hesitate to investigate if there are reasonable grounds to suspect that market players are colluding to fix prices. Action will be taken against parties found to have infringed the Competition Act. Regardless of whether the petrol companies have the same cost structure, it is not an infringement of the Competition Act for companies to match their competitors' prices, as long as these pricing decisions are made independently and not mutually agreed upon. Anyone with information on collusive activities is encouraged to contact CCS at our hotline: 1800-325-8282 or e-mail us at [email protected] . Chin Yen Yen (Ms) Deputy Director, Corporate Communications Competition Commission of Singapore ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~ 'While consumers are struggling, oil companies are accumulating profits.' MS JEANNIE FOO: 'I read with alarm and amazement on Friday ('Shell profits surge 33% on record oil prices) at the news on Shell's profits, while ExxonMobil has broken its own quarterly profit record. Since January, and except in the past few weeks, petrol pump prices have gone up and up. So while consumers struggle to bear high petrol prices and high inflation, oil companies are accumulating profits. Consumers were made to believe the petrol price increase was necessary to cover overhead costs and expenses caused by the increase in crude oil prices. But now I can only conclude the crude oil price increase was just an excuse for oil companies to push up prices further to increase their own profits. Is there no law to regulate whether it is justifiable for oil companies to increase their prices? If not, we are pretty much left at their mercy.'

  6. most opinions seem to be - it's ok to use an amp that has a high RMS output even when the speaker's output is lower. i ask this specifically because i'm wondering whether to use a 200watt RMS channel on a 175W RMS 12in sub, or to bridge 200Wx2 on the same sub. i found this test done on the internet, on a similar brand sub but an 8in version. the dimensions may differ but perhaps the theory still holds: " I've found several good things that go along with owning 8-inch woofers and one of them is certainly the price. I took a go at this woofer with some nasty power levels, sines, sweeps, and warbles to establish the woofers breaking point. So I cranked the gain up on the 'ol Coustic amp, which will now provide nearly 300 watts to the 8. Using the sealed box I wanted to find out if the coil could reach back plate, which it did, at 55hz. So 300 watts is a bit much for it?good?so I continued onward. Next off, I tried to find a thermal limit. Using a nasty repeating 100-60hz sweep, I turned the amp loose on the woofer and let her play. After about 3 minutes, and a noticeable drop in output, I shut her down, and examined the woofer. Other than a really warm dust cap, and some of that wonderful VC annozidation odor, the woofer appeared to be in fine shape. After cool down, the coil still checked out at 1.6 ohm DCR. So now we know the woofer is mechanically limited more so than thermally. If RE were to allow some more rearward clearance, the woofer would certainly be suited to at least 300 watts RMS for usage. " going by that example, the sub, which is also 175W RMS, was having mechanical difficulties at 300W. i dont exactly know what the author was talking about but it sounded like potential damage to the speaker. so is it right to say, a power mismatch to the tune of like 175W speaker vs 300W amp might not be such a good idea? the author went to do something else: " While this testing is always fun, I had to do something completely uncalled for. While using the same sealed box, I hooked up my pair of American Bass 1200d amps onto the woofer (2600 watts + into 2 ohm) and let off a single burp at 100hz, just to see what'd happen. Other than a horrid sounding tone, coupled with some loud cracks of the former knocking back plate, she did survive. After another inspection of the woofer to check for a VC offset, everything checked out ok. Currently this woofer still resides in the car for daily use in the sealed box. "
  7. I am planning to add 1 more amplifer to drive my mid of my speakers. I am using the Audison LrX4.300. Planning to use 2 channel of that to drive the tweeters and 2 channel bridge to drive the sub. Planning to then add a 2 channel amp to drive the mid. Is it better that I get back an Audison LrX 2 channel or use another series of Audison or a different brand is better? Waiting for the expert to advise!!
  8. My current Alpine speakers sound can't really make it. Intending to find a reasonable pair of 6in components to match my Alpine 9815. As not intending to add a amp yet, will CDT CL61 be a good bet? Whats the diff between CL61 and 62? Any other brands around the 300 or so price range that will be good too? As I got no woofer, I am using the 6X9 behind to give the bass. But good bass from the component is also important to me. No need super strong as I am not into techno and stuff. Looking forward to you guys recommendation!!
