  1. Abuse and unpaid as a mod! Esp by that ccb @ash2017 and @staff69 But MCF ok lah except for @angcheek alwes harrasing @babyblade hahhahaha https://www.engadget.com/2018/08/31/reddit-moderators-speak-out/ Unpaid and abused: Moderators speak out against Reddit Keeping Reddit free of racism, sexism and spam comes with a mental health risk. Be omewhere out there, a man wants to rape Emily. She knows this because he was painfully clear in typing out his threat. In fact, he's just one of a group of people who wish her harm. For the past four years, Emily has volunteered to moderate the content on several sizable subreddits -- large online discussion forums -- including r/news, with 16.3 million subscribers, and r/london, with 114,000 subscribers. But Reddit users don't like to be moderated. In a joint investigation, Engadget and Point spoke to 10 Reddit moderators, and all of them complained that Reddit is systematically failing to tackle the abuse they suffer. Keeping the front page of the internet clean has become a thankless and abusive task, and yet Reddit's administration has repeatedly neglected to respond to moderators who report offenses. "I've had a few death threats," said Emily, who asked to be referred to by her first name and her Reddit username, lolihull, to prevent the online harassment from spilling over into her real life. "And when people find out you're a woman, you get rape threats." That's why Emily tries not to mention she's a woman on Reddit: The torrent of abuse is far less likely to turn sexual. "People are willing to dedicate their time to make you feel threatened for the hell of it," she said. Some messages are direct and succinct. One sent to Emily reads, "I hope you get shot in the face with a bullet." But others are profoundly disturbing and more creative. In one rambling attack, a Redditor told Emily, "I want you to get cancer because I wanna see your own body killing you. I want you to get cancer, your mother, sister, brother, father, grandparents I want them all to get cancer and when they open their mouths I wanna piss in them. I f**king hate you. You nasty disgusting slut f**kmeat." Further down in the diatribe he adds, "I want you to come across a mean STD nigger and he tears your shit hole up so bad you'll never ever have to push your shit out." Emily, a moderator for several popular subreddits Emily's experience is far from unique. "I had three death threats this past month," said abrownn, who moderates r/Futurology, with more than 13 million subscribers, and r/technology, with more than 6 million subscribers. abrownn asked only to be known by their username. All the moderators interviewed confirmed they had received death threats, which they said can take a toll. "Even if you're having the best day, reading a message like 'I'm going to kill you' or 'walk in front of a bus,' is shitty," said Robert Allam, Chief Marketing Officer at Supload, an online sharing platform. Known by his username, GallowBoob, Allam moderates r/tifu ("today I f**ked up"), where more than 13 million subscribers share their schadenfreude anecdotes, and r/oddlysatisfying, where 1.8 million subscribers post content that is inexplicably satisfying to watch. Reddit overtook Facebook this year to become the third most popular website in the US, behind Google and YouTube. At its best, Reddit is a place where people discuss topics with other like-minded individuals; there are subreddits devoted to just about any topic imaginable -- there's even one for people who like to Photoshop human arms onto pictures of birds. At its worst, Reddit is awash with sexist threads, spam and threats. It's down to an army of dedicated volunteer moderators to keep Reddit clean -- and they too often get caught in the crossfire. https://youtu.be/jpFTtmALiS0

  3. I've noticed some threads being closed because a particular topic or news link has already been posted in another thread. Most of the time, it's really obvious which thread it is, but sometimes it isn't. That little news link could be submerged in a gargantuan thread dealing with some other topic entirely. Case in point: http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2696504-singaporean-in-worlds-top-10-earning-pastors-list/ That thread was closed because that post had apparently already been made in another thread. I wanted to follow up on this discussion. So I skimmed through the Lite and EZ subforum. Nothing obvious caught my eye. So I still don't know which thread had that particular discussion going. I even went as far as to do a search for "pastor". I feel that I should never have had to do this just to follow a supposedly current topic that should've stood out on the forum index, but I did it anyway. Here are the results of the search:http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?RPG=&app=core&DIS=&module=search&do=quick_search&req=&search_app=forums&search_content=titles&fullsearch=all&search_term=pastor None of the search results save the locked thread have a newer post than late 2013, meaning that they couldn't be referencing a brand new news article. So I'm left wondering which thread the mod was thinking about. Here are my gentle suggestions for our dear moderators: 1) Please go easy on closing threads as "duplicates". It's fine if it's an obvious dupe, but something as subtle as this, where the topic might be buried in another thread that started out discussing something else, is less clear-cut. Closing every single thread that *might* have *some* echo in another thread becomes oppressive if taken too far. 2) Even if you close, *please* link to the thread, or even better, the *actual post* (especially if buried in a large thread) that started out discussing the duplicate post topic. 3) And finally, wherever possible, *merge* rather than *close*. I understand there may be forum software limitations that hinder this, but if it's doable, then merging is far preferable to closing, especially when posters have taken pains to construct an argument about something to get the discussion going (behaviour we should be encouraging, rather than just having them link and submit). I hope my suggestions are taken in the positive way they were intended. I have been a moderator on international fora before, so I do speak from experience. I am aware of the challenges facing moderators everyday - frankly, it's a thankless task - but having a lighter touch can do wonders for the general tenor of the forum.
  4. Well done.. and good job! So much mod bashing around. So I thought it will be good to show some appreciation for the mods that have day-jobs and still help to keep this place relatively tidy. I cant say I totally agree with the standard set or even the action done. ** I was given a yellow card before and at the same time invited to be a mod all within 2 mths** But so far, its a good experience in MCF for the past 7 yrs and 4th car change. There is no perfect forum, if it is too perfect , it's boring. If it's to "dirty", then I cannot read in the office :P -------------Please close this post if you think it's a duplicate thread.---------------------------------------------
  5. My earlier discussion was deleted. I realised I have sinned! I sincerely apologise for posting a Youtube video earlier in this forum, which shows Sun Ho by the beach showing her cleavage. I am sorry for staining your chat forum with something so artificial and unholy. I am sorry to imply that our forum brothers here choing geylang to look for fake boobies. Please accept my apologies. **BOWS**
  6. Kratoschumacher Mar 14 2012, 10:40 AM Post #1 Hi everyone, I have a very exciting announcement this morning. As you might be aware sometime last month we announced the retirement of a couple of moderators. Once again we sincerely thank them for their contribution and hope they will continue on as members. Now though, we have 5 new moderators that will be taking over the duties and they are (...drum roll...) - RadX - Mazdaowner - Donut - nf0rc3r - Kratoschumacher So there you go, your new moderators and hopefully all of you at MCF will provide them with your full support. Enjoy the rest of the week, and keep those posts coming in! Cheers! 360 degree reflection Hi, there are some points I have issue with the mods and would like clarification especially when new MODs claim, this is a new chapter with everybody following the rules and there would be close monitoring 1. leopard difficult to change their spots which was constantly brought up by mods about some Mcforumers but that said, some MODS are similar like the leopards they call others 2. being a MOD, calls for whiter than white, if NOT stop bashing other forums like hardwarezone and sammy, basically you are NO better 3. Kratoschumacher - keep those posts coming in! So what is the problem when I start a different thread for different topics that appear to be in a form of a joke, so what about bandwidth, there are many more hopeless threads worse than the one's i started subsequently, it was renamed and at least two threads were merged my simple posting within the thread of "Hi Sabbie" was met with an unbecoming remark by a MOD to subjectively threatened a forumer by sending them to netherworld and screaming for sex if you want to warn me, if warranted warn me properly, I dont take this kind of Shxt from a MOD but from another forumer it may be different I then explain, and seek an apology especially if indeed I did nothing wrong, the thread which was renamed by MOD to Jokes of SCB11980 was deleted subsequently what crap, what standards are you MODs talking about MODS, if you want to be different and be class upper than the other forums that you look down upon, then please held yourself to similar standards that you impose onto other forumers, once you become a MOD, you are public property MODS give updates on forumers, why not start a thread on updates on MODs PS: I think the MODS as a team, I dont want to pick on any particular one, it doesnt matter who but MODS should hold the same standard as that required of forumers by the MODS themselves, we all make mistakes but some MODS are very unforgiving and if so these same MODS should live by their own standards too I am really pissed, this is a real betrayed to me, all the talk about seeking everybody's help to conform, putting past behind and starting a new and making this forum better than other forums, it seems it is all a big bad joke ok got this off my chest
