  1. My car broke down along TPE abt 6pm this evening. In less than 5 min, a member of the Orange Force officer came and rendered assistance to me. He tel EMAS and parked his bike and switch on the blinker and put up the breakdown sign behind my car and kept me accompany till my own tow truck arrived. He was with me for more than half an hour. He also went to check out another van infront of me that had also broken down. He also gave me his name card and told me that I can contact NUTC should I need any help. I was very touched with his act even though my car is not insured with NTUC. To be honest I might insure with NTUC when my insurance expire next year. Thank you very much to you, my dearest Malay Orange Force Officer. I really appreaciate your kind assistance. I promised to publicise your name tomorrow cos yr name card is inside my car. I've left my car in the workshop for them to replace my brake pump. I hope NTUC INCOME read my post and give credit to this kind and helpful officer.

  3. Being very busy lately...............but still I think need to show appreciation and a thank you to sgcarmart for the platform provided to sell cars ourselves.......... The story goes as I wanted to sell my car..............instead of going around asking dealers for quotes (usually dealers will squeeze you real hard)...................I went to sgcarmart Quotz.............filled up a form and went for the sales by bidding.............the whole process was simple and easy ( filled up form.....got a call...went down for photo taking......filled up some forms.....paid $107....and wait for bidding close)........ Well............the highest bidding price by the closing time did not meet my expectation.............but was higher than their guaranteed price...................so no go and Quotz gets to keep my $107......... so sad.... By now I had an idea of how much my car can fetch from dealers.....................so went ahead paid $48 and "POST AN AD" and sell it myself as direct seller in sgcarmart............posted the ad on Friday evening.............Sat phone rang and after a few viewings.............say bye bye to my work horse.............with a sales amount of $7000 over dealers highest bid price.................wooooohooooooo............. These could not have happen without the sgcarmart platform and the simplified procedures provided by sgcarmart..........and the forms for DIY sales were really helpful and useful!!!!............ Now looking to buy a car from direct seller and save some money............looks like I will be going the DIY way in future dealings as well............ Thank you SGCARMART....................and well done guys!!!!
  4. not sure if you guys feel it.... I am becoming to realise that ppl ard me are saying less "good morning"s and "thank you" When i was younger , it's quite usual that when the cleaner cleans the table.. ppl ard will say "thank you" .. and it's not unusal to greet the sweeper of the estate and neighbours.. but recently, i found that i am probably the only one doing that ... :P Many ppl i notice will ask questions to the standbyer.. and after they get their answer, they just smile and walk away.. no thank you anymore.
  5. Thanks to Malaysia cloud seeding, today our sky dark dark like going to rain. Hope we have some heavy shower in the afternoon. Singapore too expensive to do cloud seeding coz we are the most expensive cities in the world. Huat ah!!!
  6. Back to basic of the 70's ......... yahoo news: Nation of kindness courtesy campaign kicks off A nation of kindness starts with one. That's the message of Singapore's latest courtesy campaign which kicked off on Monday. Organised by the Singapore Kindness Movement, the month-long campaign aims to "incorporate graciousness in our daily routines" -- with a particular focus on behaviour on public transport -- through the power of the individual to extend a greeting or helping hand. The end goal? To foster a kind and gracious society. SKM's messages will be visible on public transport and elsewhere on the island, as well as in print and online, to encourage people to take ownership of kindness. Social media users are also encouraged to share kindness stories and photos using #NationofKindness on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. "In working with numerous ground-up movements, I have met many inspiring individuals, many of whom are youths, who give me great hope for Singapore. Their stories deserve to be heard by more people, and will motivate us to do our part to build a more pleasant and liveable home for everyone, " said Dr William Wan, general secretary of SKM. link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...-030130695.html Thank You for Reading ....

  10. Hougang must have the highest concentration of bums with nothing to do. I have never seen so many people cheering the fact they are living in a slum. They rejected a credible young star, upgraded toilets and even free legal service for some bum who only recieved 1 vote in a closed door meeting. I wonder how to liberate these people from their years of being brainwashed. The DPM already tried his best but still failed. Funeral mourners also come and cheer
  11. CPF, Medisave minimum sum to be increased Published on May 30, 2012 CPF members, who turn 55 between July 1 and June 30 next year will have to set aside a minimum sum of $139,000, up from $131,000 last year. -- ST PHOTO: CAROLINE CHIA CPF members, who turn 55 between July 1 and June 30 next year will have to set aside a minimum sum of $139,000, up from $131,000 last year. The amount was adjusted over the years to account for inflation, longer life expectancies and Singaporeans' rising expectations of their quality of life post-retirement. From July 1, the Medisave minimum sum (MMS) will also be raised to $38,500 from $36,000, a 7 per cent increase. Members will be able to withdraw their Medisave savings in excess of the amount at, or after, the age of 55. The maximum balance a member may have in his Medisave Account, known as the Medisave contribution ceiling (MCC), is set at $5,000 above the minimum sum, which means it would be increased correspondingly to $43,500, from $41,000 previously.
  12. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Mods for unmoderating me so I can post again. They really show much impartiality and tolerance in letting me back. Think they are really doing a good job despite not being paid. So thank you and hugz! If I had known, then I wouldn't have registered a new nick sasa1 So I will try my best to behave until I reach fast and furious and contribute meaningfully to the forum. To the mods, I apologize if you feel that this thread is a waste of bandwidth and delete it.
  13. SINGAPORE: From this year, Singaporeans will get absolute priority over permanent residents when it comes to balloting for primary school places. The Education Ministry said where balloting is required during Primary One registration, Singaporeans will be admitted first ahead of permanent residents, before home-school distance is considered. For example, when the number of applications exceed the number of school places, Singaporeans who live closer to the school of choice will get higher priority compared to Singaporeans who live further away. Citizens living within one kilometre will be admitted first, followed by those who live between one kilometre and two kilometres from school. Singaporeans who live outside two kilometres of the school of choice will then be given a place. If there are still vacancies in the school after all eligible Singaporean children have been admitted after balloting, places will be given to permanent residents, with priority given to those who live closer to school. MOE said by giving Singaporeans priority over PRs only when balloting is required, it retains the underlying principles of the Primary One registration framework, which reflect a careful balance of considerations, and provide for diversity in Singapore schools, while according citizens a further privilege. This is on top of a measure introduced in 2010, where Singaporeans are given two ballot slips for each child for Primary One registration, while PRs get one ballot slip per child. MOE also announced that there will be seven new primary schools next year - five in the new towns of Sengkang and Punggol, and one each in Jurong West and Woodlands. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1191133/1/.html
  14. I was reading wheels magazine in Woolworths in Brisbane earlier. This article stated that when someone flashes the headlights to indicate for one to filter or join the lane, it can be perceived as agression by the aussies. Then, one time the writer drovein a countryside road in a fiesta and behind came a saad turbo, he kept left andthe saad zoomed past and gave two hazard lights flashes to indicate thank you. That made his day so much more pleasant. I was thinking, we need to brush up or initiate communication between cars to destress from driving on the road. Too manytimes proper gentlemen when they get into their cars, they become a-----es.waving in the car is quite distracting when our eyes should be on the road, besides, the rear tinted window obscure the view. Any thoughts?

  17. No one wants to give me job They want to be independent working adults, but the odds are often stacked against the disabled. Alvin Lim Sat, Dec 31, 2011 The New Paper HE IS unable to raise a spoon to his mouth to eat, but he wants to be independent and to earn his own keep. So Mr Wesley Wee, 32, shuttles between his Jurong West flat and Orchard Road every day, peddling his wares on a basket attached to his motorised wheelchair. Mr Wee has cerebral palsy, in which part of the brain controlling motor functions has been damaged. As a result, he suffers from multiple disabilities from head down. He can speak, but not without difficulty - stringing together a sentence requires intense concentration and coordination. The New Paper met Mr Wee outside the Mandarin Gallery mall at Orchard Road, where he was with a female friend, who identified herself as his minder and said she was a Filipina. She declined to give her name. Attached to his wheelchair was a basket of keychains, pointers, pens and packets of tissue paper. An accompanying notice read: "Help yourself to what you want, and drop in a donation: Any amount." Mr Wee has been living with a pastor since June, after he moved out of his family home - an HDB flat in Toa Payoh which he shared with his mother. His father died in 2000 from liver cancer. Mr Wee had lived with his grandmother in her flat in Changi since he was a child. She was his primary caregiver until she died in 1998, and he moved back with his parents. He said: "I miss my grandmother because she would hug me and tell me she loved me." He is now estranged from his family. Home is now a rented room in his church pastor's Jurong West flat, and the rent is a nominal fee that he pays "whenever he makes enough money". Mr Wee said he does not want to stay in a welfare home as it would "limit his freedom". "I want to be independent," he said. He shares the room with his Filipina friend, whom he met at his church in Ang Mo Kio. She stays with him whenever she visits Singapore, and occasionally takes him back to the Philippines to stay with her family. Mr Wee's friends from church paid for his trips. She said: "There is no one to take care of Wesley here, so I am constantly worried for him." Mr Wee said he was previously on the North East Community Development Council's public assistance scheme for a year in 2008, which gave him a monthly sum of $200. But he did not apply for a second year as he found the amount insufficient and decided to earn his own keep. He applied for a licence from the National Environment Agency under its street hawking scheme. Mr Wee was successful in his application and was given a licence to peddle his wares - keychains, tissue paper and ballpoint pens - but only within HDB estates in Punggol, Pasir Ris and Tampines. Said Mr Wee: "I decided to earn money on my own because $200 was not enough for people like me. "My wheelchair already costs $5,000, and that was donated by friends and nice people who wanted to help me. "My wheelchair is my life without it, I cannot go anywhere." Mr Wee said he was initially "overjoyed" to get his licence. But the euphoria swiftly turned to disappointment at the lack of earnings. He said: "I sat at different locations at Punggol every day for a week, but nobody came to buy my things." "I wasn't allowed to sell under some HDB blocks or the nearby coffee shops... And there were very few passers-by. 'How can I live with $20?' "I made only $20 in that whole week... how can I live with $20?" Mr Wee learnt to use the computer seven years ago at the Society for the Physically Disabled, which offers courses for people with disabilities to enhance their employment chances. He picked up office and design programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Photoshop. Yet, he has been unsuccessful in getting employment. "No one wants to give me a job... I have been rejected at every job interview I attended. "If I don't do this, how am I going to get money? I need to work because I have to provide for myself," added Mr Wee. He takes a bus and the train to Orchard Road, where he peddles his wares. Mr Wee said the higher traffic enables him to earn about "$50 or $60 on good days", and he makes about $500 a month. A sign that his minder placed on his wheelchair reads: "I need to support myself, but I am not allowed to sell things. Can you please help me?" Mr Wee still harbours hopes of finding a job to match his skills. He said: "What normal people can do, I can do also... "One day, I want to be married and find a wife for myself. I want to lead a normal life. Everybody needs to be happy and they deserve to be with their loved ones." Mr Sim Ngee Mong, a senior social worker at the Covenant Family Service Centre, told TNP that job opportunities for the disabled are hard to come by, and that the jobs pay little. He noted that the social assistance schemes "should be adequate" to meet basic needs. "The schemes are constantly reviewed...but of course, the frequency of the reviews needs to be considered. "What can be improved? I suppose more regular reviews, but the root of the problem is rising costs, which is inevitable. I think we should look into preventing costs from rising too fast and too much," said Mr Sim. He added: "It is good that people like Mr Wee try to be independent - otherwise we would all have a welfare mentality. "There are many people like him but on the other hand, there are also many who go around looking for handouts."
  18. thank you to the 2 blessed kind souls that stop by,brave the rain and offered assistance to my brother when he met with a motorbike accident last evening. (somewhere along commonwealth road) there was no collision. just wet road and he skidded. anyways, our heartfelt thank you to the kind people.
  19. Thank you Mr Chiam! Your loss is Singapore's loss, you have won respect from all parties and you greatly deserve it. I wish you good health and thank you for your contribution to Singapore.
  20. Well Said, nice not sure whether u all read it...:) ******************************************************************************** ****************************************** My friends, my fellow Singaporeans, We may have lost an election but tonight we have rediscovered something so much more valuable - the pride of being Singaporeans. My fellow party members and I began all of this because we felt that we needed to speak up not just for you, but also ourselves. The competition has been robust; sides were taken and things were said. But now that the contest is over, we must come together as one country and work to build that future we want. When we choose our leaders, we ask of them not just their industry but also their judgment. We may not always agree with our government, but it is our responsibility to engage them in intelligent debate so that policies made in our name serve the common good. Tonight our hearts are with Mr Low Thia Kiang and the Worker's Party. They have made political history in Singapore and they have made us proud. For the next 5 years, we will depend on them to be our voices in Parliament. We are comforted that we will be well represented. The great joy we feel at the election of the Worker's Party is matched only by our profound sadness at the exit tonight of two great men from the political scene. We want to pay tribute to Mr George Yeo, the outgoing Foreign Minister. Not since the tenure of the late Mr S Rajaratnam has anyone defined our foreign policy like Mr Yeo. A soldier, a scholar, a statesman. And to top it all off, a perfect gentleman. We hope that he will consider a run for the Presidency later this year. We believe he will be another peoples' President and we cannot think of a better person to continue representing us to the world. We also want to express our gratitude to Mr Chiam See Tong who together with the late J B Jeyaretnam fought for ordinary Singaporeans at a time when it was much tougher for opposition politicians. Mr Chiam, all Singaporeans owe you a debt of gratitude and we salute you. We will carry on the work you began. And so my friends, in closing I just want to remind all of you that while the votes have been cast and tallied, the work has just begun. We know the kind of Singapore we want - we have been talking about it for months now. The time for talk is over; lets get it done. Sincerely, Nicole Seah NSP Candidate for Marine Parade GRC GE 2011

This kind couple actually take the effort to follow me all the way to malaysia custom, even at that hour, the causeway is pretty jam. 22. Hi guys... I've been on MCF for about 6 years now and i must say, MCF has had an impact on my life I first got onto MCF before i got my car. back in 2004, i was pondering between the Vios or the Lancer. Borneo Motors SEs were dam stuck up, my dad's friend told him Lancer was a racing car and drank petrol. I came onto MCF to get all the help I could get and it really helped me with my decision on what car to get. For those of you who know me personally, I'm currently now in the car audio (ICE) trade, an industry which I didnt expect myself to get into( I'm a civil engineering grad) I got into this trade also because of my dear car. Anyway, here's a review: Year bought: 2004 31st July Lancer CS3 1.6L Manual Official Last day of use: 15th October 2010 ( but i'm going overseas for 2 days, so today was the last day driving it around) Total Milage covered : 164000 km This car has been a really awesome car. Nothing beats the feeling of getting into the car in the morning, starting it on the first try and moving off. For 5 years, I lugged around big car audio systems in my car. First it started with a woofer + amp, then more amplifiers, and since 2007, i was lugging around 2 95AH Varta AGM batteries (60kg), woofer + enclosure that weighed around another 50kg, 15kg amp + a lot of other stuff. Car was obviously weighed down, but it was still great to drive. FC wise, at the start, i was getting 14km ~15km/l easily. when the systems started going it, i was getting 13- 14km/l. as the systems got bigger and bigger, FC dropped to 12-13. With age, my worst FC was around 10km/l, but averaged out to 11km/l ( still luggin around all my heavy stuff) problems wise, the only major breakdown that occured was that i had a crack in my fuel tank. people said that my bass caused the crack, but till date, i think i probably hit a hump or something. I had an accident in 2008 and had to change out my front. After that, i suspected either my condenser was leaking or my cooling coil was leaking gas, had to top up gas quite often. But all this aside, I love this car and driving it long distance still puts a smile on my face. I would recommend people to get this lancer ( think its called lancer MR now) or if people are looking for 2nd hand cars, they can consider a lancer as a first car. Quite trouble free, good FC, comfortable and reliable. The engine is a tank! Anyway, because of my car, i've had the opportunity to meet some of the guys on this forum ( gadgeter, darthmel, Mazdaowner), all great people. the ICE people whom i met here, made a big impact on me and when the " nasi padang meetup at macpherson" was every weds, those were really happy times for me. come this friday, i will be sending in my car to the dealer's place and picking up my new ride. if i had the money, i would have loved to keep my lancer and make it a pure project( for audio) car. But sadly i cant. I used to be quite active in MCF ( esp the ice section), but it has since evolved. I'll like to thank everyone here who has helped me with my " car issues" and MCF will always have a special place in my heart. I cant help but feel sad for my car. Spent last few days slowly dekitting everything and the last of which came out today. oo well, to my dear car, thank you for everything and i will always remember you, my first ride. Cheers all
  23. If you have sex with a prostitute against her will, is it considered rape or shoplifting? Can you cry under water? How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered? Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to? Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity? Why does a round pizza come in a square box? What disease did cured ham actually have? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up like every two hours? If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing? Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV? Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground? Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway... Why is 'bra' singular and 'panties' plural? Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him? If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat? Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs! If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner? If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from? If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons? Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune? Why did you just try singing the two songs above? Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt? Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window? Why, Why, Why Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting dead? Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough money? Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet? Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection? Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard? Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him? Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word 'lisp'? If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes? Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white? Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale? Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized? Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance? Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try? How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures? When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, 'It's all right?' Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, 'That really hurt, why don't you watch where you're going?' Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over? In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat? How come you never hear father-in-law jokes? And my FAVORITE........ The statistics on sanity is that one out of every four persons are suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they're okay, then it's you.
  24. Was driving along the rightmost lane of TPE earlier tonight when a panel van tailgated me. Real close. I could see the driver's face, as well as the barrier cage between the seats and the cargo area. Keeping in mind the safety of my family, I moved over to lane 2 to let him pass. He cut in front of my car dangerously from lane 3 and braked hard. I moved over to lane 1 and he did the same thing again. I just slowed down, and kept an even safer distance. He exited at Punggol exit, with an arm out of the window. Was waiting to see, but that van didn't tried to take the service road back to TPE to harass us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5bQ9t76Xio
  25. What a close shave for Fergie . . . heading for a home defeat when a last minute o.g. rescued them. All thanks to Anton (Rio's brudder?) and Steve? (ex-Man U player). YAY!! YAY!! Without fail once again, teams under ex-Man U players are crap when playing against SAF's team. Way to go, brudders!
