I just think if you have a CEO from DFS running the SMRT, what do you expect???

The thing she is the most famous for is setting up "shops" in MRT station. Common do you expect her to place emphasis on Engineering staff???

The board of directors should have anticipated this when they placed her on the helm. The CEO will be focused on revenue, opening retail spaces in MRT stations. What about the trains? What about maintenance?

Same for Chartered Semi conductor. They put an accountant as CEO so all he could do is to count money.... Look at where our Chartered Semi ended up....

I believe the background of the CEO is very impt. Different people will emphasize different things. If you put an Accountant as CEO, don't expect your company to have leading technology. simple as that.

If you put a CEO from DFS to run SMRT, you can expect better service, more shops in your MRT stations. Maintenance??? Technical Stuff??? common, who are you kidding...

You win some you lose some. It all depends on what your priorities are.

Our govt always need something big to wake up their f*ing idea. Like the GE, need to lose 1 GRC then wake up a bit. On the ground we keep complaining but they ignored, now is MRT turn.

I hope MRT will kena big prolonged problem, then only we can see improvements. But not during peak hours please, I rely solely on MRT for work. <_<

CEO earn multi million dollar pay but when things happen, no accountability?

same thing for the ministers.. if one earn millions and takes care of our "world class transport" systems, we would expect "world class" standards as well... seems like all we got is increase in fare prices, more overcrowding... and "world class" taiji standards.

the government should not fine SMRT for lapses...

because in the End SMRT will just raise prices when they cannot meet bottomline.

They should fine the SMRT management.... so SMRT no need to pay.

What is the point of fining SMRT???? stupid.... you fine SOMEONE so that guy is afraid of making the same mistake again. Government fine SMRT for what??? SMRT is who??? in the end, SMRT just raise fares lor...

Woman in coma after falling onboard SMRT bus

By Hoe Yeen Nie | Posted: 19 December 2011 2141 hrs

SINGAPORE : A 54-year-old woman is in a coma after falling onboard an SMRT bus on Sunday night.

It is believed that Madam Ding Weibo fractured her skull after hitting her head on a seat.

The bus driver had apparently applied the brakes suddenly.

Madam Ding and her daughter had just boarded bus 167 at about 8pm at Orchard Road, near Heeren shopping centre, when the driver jammed the brakes.

Both made a grab for the handrails, but the force of the brake threw Madam Ding onto the floor.

She was sent unconscious to the Singapore General Hospital.

Her daughter, Ding Xiao Sui, told Channel NewsAsia that Madam Ding suffered internal bleeding, and had to have an operation.

She is still in critical condition.

The family plans to lodge a complaint against the driver.

Her daughter said: "I was so scared and panicked, I did not know what to do. I kept calling for her, but there was no response. She was fine in the afternoon, she was shopping, and now she is in this state."

In a statement, SMRT said "We are sorry the incident happened and investigations is on-going. We will be in touch with the family..."

I heard there was a signal problem in Orchard, not delay.

haha... just saw the news on TV

SMRT claims the delays in NS and EW lines are only 5 mins, but the reporters took the timings in this afternoon and recorded more than 8 mins

kudos to them in their persistence to find out the truth

shame to SMRT for anyhow making claims

3 minutes of difference is still acceptable.
