Volvo Diesel as Uber/Grab

cause diesel is not taxed as compared to petrol. Hence, potential income lost for them. Given the long distance it is traveling, diesel will be more worth it. Also, I don't think PH cars are subjected to 7 years life span, compared to taxis.

By this logic, petrol cars with frugal consumption also is a loss of income for them? Only 2.0l and above, 7-8 seater cars for uber/grab then.

I highlighted this issue before.

The mileage will likely be tweaked.

I just sat in a 3 month old Vezel with 30,000km on the odometer.

All that's required for the ex-private hire car to look new is

- a tweak of the odometer,

- new coat of paint and leather seats,

- leather wrap the steering wheel & gear knob if the surface has a high mileage shiny look

- chemical wash the engine surface

I foresee these private hire vehicles being sold in the used car market by their fifth year, when there is still resale value.

You would likely have a 5 year old Vezel with 600,000km on the odometer, but tweaked to reflect 80,000km.

I would avoid cars used as private hire in the used car market.

Problem is, u won't know if the tarted up Vezel, Shuttle, K3, Mz3, Attrage (ok, this one most likely) was a PH car b4.

2nd dealer would tell u owner was ex-teacher, someone who travel overseas often, elderly who gave up driving, etc as reason for the low mileage......

And I think the used car mkt will be flooded w these when uber finally decide to exit our tiny market.

Avoid buying used Vezel, Attrage, Shuttle, and Mazda 3. Any other cars to avoid? I think most of the new Lancers on the road also PHV.

Easier to just avoid unless you really want those models badly. Many other choices available that isn't used for PHV.

But the buying public cannot access AD records.

And most of these cars (Attrage, Mz3, Corolla, K3, etc) are from AD.

If die die want Vezel, maybe look for HRV instead. Much safer.

These are usual rental cars used as Grab car Premium and Uber Exec.

They include Merc E200, BMW 5 series and Audi A6, mostly unsold used cars which are converted to rental cars.

Market practice is to sell them after a certain mileage is achieved, to avoid repair costs.

Ya. Seems like alot of rental companies renew Wish to use for uber/grab. Seen many adverts offering wish.

Another way to spot a rental car.

Car has no window tint and no sports rim (except for a cover).

Rental car companies normally won't pay money for these, unless they are already paid for by someone else.

Hmm... why rental companies offer MPVs leh? Does it command higher rate c.f. sedan? The Touran I saw was at Tampines on Sat afternoon. 5 persons went into the car, which is not possible for normal sedan. Wondering whether the customer had to pay more for a MPV...
