That's a really long wall of text, so I'll sum it up for you. The owner of a 2011 Mercedes Viano was denied a HDB Multi-Storey Car Park season parking with the main reason being the excessive weight (more than 2,000kg) of the vehicle.

So what does he do?

He proceeded to spend some time checking out the various cars parked in HDB MSCP and came up with a short list of cars that weigh more than 2,000kg.

If you look at this excerpt from HDB's website regarding the parking restrictions for commercial vehicles (the Mercedes Viano is predominantly used as commercial passenger buses), it is a straightforward rule that commercial vehicles parking in a sheltered car park must not exceed 2,000kg.

With the rationale behind it being safety and environmental concerns as well as "efforts to preserve the character and ambience of residential estates"... Hmm, maybe HDB just find the Viano too ugly to be parked in a housing estate?

In all seriousness though, this netizen has a point, this issue likely stemmed from outdated regulations. These regulations were probably established back when commercial vehicles weighing more than 2,000kg are agricultural behemoths.

Maybe HDB should look into updating its regulations? in the meantime, I suppose this guy should get rid of the Viano and get something else, like one of the cars he mentioned instead?

Why Mercedes Viano (commercial van) can put seats for passengers? Is Viano able to carry passengers just like SUV/MPV.

I like to venture into this loop hole. Parking is not a issue to my family

It is not about the weight. It is about Commercial vis-a-vis Private vehicles.

LL lor... if the regulations state as such...

Road tax (maybe not for commercial veh) should really be by length/height and weight and not engine displacement. All these blardy fat SUVs and MPVs, bloody blocking the roads.

I believes the Viano you are referring to are the Pte Hire/Company registered buses. Goods versions are Vito.

Well, you can simply register a biz and purchase a bus under your own biz name, just take note about the hassle of driving into Malayisa.

  • Godzilla Minus One: Surprisingly emotional and poignant

When one thinks of Godzilla movies, one imagines an oversized amphibious dinosaur generating a terrifying heat ray from its mouth and fighting with other oversized monsters. Meh, nothing special, right? Wrong. Here’s why Godzilla Minus One should be an action movie you should definitely catch. In this version, the timeless clash between monster and man is once again set against the tumultuous backdrop of post-war Japan. But, unlike typical action films that dive headfirst into destruction a

Why oolong tea could be the superior drink of choice at lunch

Coffee - without sugar! - has long been (and still is) my go-to option to accompany my lunch. Amidst a larger 2025 goal of reducing the number of cups of kopi-o kosong I gulp down a week, however, I’ve recently thought about how my lunch experience can be switched up slightly with yet another sugarless drink: A can, or indeed bottle of oolong tea. Oolong tea is said to offer a perfect balance of flavour and functionality - perfect not just for complementing one's meal but also reinvigo

    Musings about the Pomodoro Method

In a hyper-connected mega-city, where time seems to tick at a relentlessly brisk pace and where distractions are aplenty, pondering the art of productivity and focus is inevitable. In fact, it’s almost become a necessity. No wonder so many listicles have been written to point us in the right directions. Different methods works for different folks, of course, and when I was in my final year of university, I was introduced to a method that I regularly return to still: The Pomodoro Method, a d
