Pisces69 6th Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Well it depends if u want a "china" made engine or parts? If u think it's good, go for it. For me, I think i'll pass on anything "china" for my car. Unless it's hanging from a string on the rear view mirror.
Mdvic Neutral Newbie June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 hahahah......tks bro for the advise....... its still a long way to go you will never knows what will happen after that..............( i mean importing parts from china..............
Pisces69 6th Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Well I remember Hyundai Pony & Stella cars way back. Quality was pretty bad & pple only bought cos they were much cheaper than the jap cars. Look at Hyundai now. Fighting with the jap cars even. And sometimes even better than those Thai made jap cars. That was abt 20 years ago. We already have many China made parts imported to SG for our jap cars. If u wanna try, fine. But make sure u pay a much cheaper price for them. Tanjkp Clutched June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 For info, a number of JP made cars have China made components installed though they assemble some models in Thai.
Pisces69 6th Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 I'm not surprised. Due to cost cutting they source parts from the cheapest supplier. Even in SG, u can get China parts from the spare parts shop. Their price is the cheapest amongst all. U can consider to use them for those non-critical parts lah.
Tanjkp Clutched June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Well, then the Japy may ship all the mold (engine, parts mold etc) and outsource all to them and ship back to assemble in JP ? If not wrong the Hipola was about 20K in 90s just normal i without VVT n no ABS. Today is < 17K with most thing even SRS.
Pisces69 6th Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 That's just possible but the QC must b maintained. That's very important. Usually when it's made in 3rd world/developing country, they will use lower quality metals & such so the quality will drop. Due to high production costs in Jap, they usually outsource for many parts which usually also means a drop in quality. Maybe the days of 20 year old Jap cars will become a thing of the past. But I dont think the Japs will give ALL their technology to China so easily.
Tanjkp Clutched June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 That's their way of doing business -- always keep the top internal. Looking at the recent frequent recall really throw some light on their parts.

Mivec9 1st Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Its the cooling system. Your engine is not generating more heat. The coolant system is not removing heat efficiently. Same thing happened to my Starlet last time. On highway, cools well. Start-stop, it shot up. I suggest you scrap the whole cooling system and replace it utterly and completely. Hoses, radiator, fan and thermostat. Destroy the problem. With recon parts, I don't think it will cost more than 400. If you want, can buy the recon parts and replace yourself. Its not difficult to remove every thing from the cooling system. You might want to know why I recommend bypassing the troubleshooting. Firstly, it is cheap to replace the whole coolant system. Secondly, your car is old. Might be worthwhile to get recon parts for a new lease of life. This is another alternative solution but quite ex..i did change my hoses...cost around 15 bucks each and also my temp valve housing..even my radiator is recon one..so far no prob.. Mivec9 1st Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Yo bro..is ur concern due to the 3/4 mark? tot if head gasket leak..u shd c some oil in the coolant..and worst, it shd fountain out when open the radiator cap. Anyway, replacing the head gasket would be good if u intend to keep it for long time..
Mivec9 1st Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Does ur temp go up to 3/4 then drop bro? If so, your engine might have the same problem as mine. This shouldn't be happening Hi Decibel, mine is 3/4 and this will activate the fan..then the reading will drop slightly and maintain there..
Mivec9 1st Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 My hoses are fine, no thermostat, and with radiator+fan changed, problem still persists. Thus his diagnosis of gasket wear. huh no thermostat? then how does the fan work in this way
Mivec9 1st Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Ok I asked Ah Ting abt this, but I don't think he has one. Will go elsewhere to get it done. Thanks i guess simon rite? Btw, where r u going to do ur clutch bro?
Mivec9 1st Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 Your thermostat is removed? That will explain why the gasket is failing. Include the thermostat when you install the new gasket. exactly..i was surprised when he mentioned his thermostat is removed..without it..how would the cooling system work probably..unless the fan is bypassed. Pisces69 6th Gear June 22, 2006 Share June 22, 2006 exactly..i was surprised when he mentioned his thermostat is removed..without it..how would the cooling system work probably..unless the fan is bypassed. =================================== The thermostat he refering to is the one for the coolant to flow to the radiator. Fan is controlled by another thermostst switch.
