  1. Hi All, i had recently purchased a 'new' 08 kia cerato variant 2, intending it to service my needs of ferrying my family and kiddo around. Everything seems well and fine, until i went for a fan belt, water pump change 2 weeks later, as i want the car to be in perfect running condition. After the change, things starts going haywire.. the car temperature gauge starts to creep up past 1/2 point mark, till 3/4 to 'Hot'. This happened when i drove the car for some time (30 mins or so?) and when the car is idling either from traffic lights, or parked in the parking lot. Rev-ing the car in neutral, or moving off will result in temperature dropping. Fan is spinning when aircon is on, fan is spinning when aircon is off as well, hence mech said its isnt the issue. Went back to garage the next day, was advised to changed out radiator and refresh a few hoses, as the radiator were kinda chocked with, and it even choked several hoses as well. Thermostat had been removed as well -.- Sadly, after doing all the changes, the issue still persist. Noticed during the testing of car after installation done, air bubbles were present in the coolant reserve tank. Mech said most likely head gasket is gone as well. Curious any bro or sis or gurus had any similar experiences on this? how much roughly will the repair cost be this time? Sigh :/ Thanks!
  2. Hey guys, my 92' Swift has started to overheat recently. Thus far the needle hasn't hit the H mark yet, but as my usual temp is about 1/3 of the way past the Cold mark, this worries me. Yesterday evening in bad start-stop traffic in town, I saw the needle spike up several times to almost the H zone. Luckily it behaved itself later the entire way home on the CTE, maintaining its usual 1/3 reading. Less than 1hr ago though, I drove to the Library in my neighborhood and when I'd almost reached my home carpark after, I saw the needle spike up again to almost 3/4 mark or so, then it went back to normal. I'm quite worried, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I recently changed my water pump and flushed/replaced coolant when i did my timing belt, oil change. I left the upper and lower radiator hoses unchanged though, and they do seem a bit worn out to me when I check now. Could this be the case? Or could it possibly be the quality of coolant that the mech suppplied me with? Finally I have a spare radiator with me, should I just get it changed? Really appreciate all advise, cheers!
  3. I thought that I have been reading more about cars burning down on the roads. Indeed, earlier reports say that 106 cars caught fire in 2013, up from 100 in 2012. Meanwhile, 9 more motorcycles caught fire last year, as the number of cases rose by close to 40 per cent, to 32 cases last year. Are our cars getting lousier, or do people not know how to maintain their cars anymore? SCDF: Overheating and engine electrical faults are main causes for vehicle fires Published on Apr 05, 2014 5:46 PM By Hoe Pei Shan The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) issued an advisory on preventing and handling vehicle fires after a taxi burst into flames on Saturday. No injuries were reported in the Lornie Road incident, which occurred at about 1pm. The SCDF went on to advise that most vehicle fires in Singapore occur while vehicles are travelling, often caused by ignition sources such as overheating and electrical faults within the engine compartment. It said motorists should take their vehicles for regular servicing and checks on the electrical, engine and fuel systems. http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/scdf-overheating-and-engine-electrical-faults-are-main-causes-vehicle-
  4. Need help. My Nissan Latio just got overheating light on and the air con suddenly become not cold. Don't know is it the fan belt problem or radiator problem. Water had came out from radiator also. Anyone can advise?
  5. My Chevrolet Vivant has a few times overheat (temperature pass 3/4 mark or very near H). Have sent it twice to Starsauto but it still came back again. The last time, last weekend's trip to Malaysia. It usually overheat in the mid afternoon , when movement is slow due to slow moving traffic etc and aircon dial set to 2 or 3. But then coming back from second link at 7.30pm, last Monday, the temperature still went up in the jam. We now have to make do with turning aircon OFF and winding down the windows when this happens.... Do you guys Optras and Aveos, have this problem ?
  6. Guys need your opinion. I'm driving a 5yrs old Jap car with 200k mileage. The car was fine until lately for the past 3 mths it will overheat when travel long distance. I notice my temp gauge will gradually rise from 90C to high of 110C. On few occasion it trigger the overheating indicator on my dashboard. I have checked the coolant level many times however it remain at the same level so I guess there's no leakage on the radiator. Both the aircon and radiator fan is running fine. Sometimes i could smell coolant when i on the AC. jThe oil temp remains at normal level bet 100 to 110C. What could be wrong here. Could it be the thermostat or head gasket or blocked radiator? Any shop u guys can recommend to fix this.
  7. Ford is recalling 89,153 units of the 1.6-litre EcoBoost-equipped Fusion and Escape models due to fire hazard risk in North America. The engine may overheat and cause fire in the engine compartment. This is the third recall involving the 1.6-litre turbocharged lump. The brand new 2013 Fusion accounts for 15,833 units of the recalled vehicles. Ford confirmed that there have been new reports of these engines overheating, resulting in fires while the engine is running. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The affected vehicles' instrument clusters may display warning notifications "Engine Power Reduced to Lower Temps" or "Engine over temp, stop safely." The blue oval company is currently working on a repair procedure and has advised owners to stop driving these affected vehicles. EcoBoost is a family of turbocharged, direct injected gasoline engines produced by the Ford Motor Company and co-developed by FEV engineering. The 1.6-litre EcoBoost is currently not available in Singapore's Ford lineup. However, the Volvo S60 and S80 T4 are powered by the motor.
  8. Sad day today for my Reddy.... This is the first time that he died on me! It was already making weird noises last night and then the fan (dunno which one) wouldn't go off even after I had stopped and turned off the car. Today just as I entered the carpark of my office, Reddy suddenly stalled and died...... It was only then that I noticed that the temperature was at MAX ie. the RED BAR!! Tried restarting and some smelly fumes came out so I stopped and wheeled it into a parking lot. After 2 hours, I came out and filled the Radiator with abt 1.5 ltrs of water and it seemed ok. Tried then to drive to Saber's but barely out of my office complex, the temperature rocketed to the Red bar again So managed to get him back in the carpark and am waiting for the towtruck now SIGHHHH.....so sad I hope the gasket not blown or hv to have PREMATURE SCRAPING! Crossing fingers now. As a lesson to other Bro's out there, don't forget to check your water levels?!! I can't rem who told me that I dont need to keep filling the water and it shd be fine but it totally slipped my mind... Oh well...lets see what happens in the next few days....

  10. I've had enuff of my car! I've tried all kinds of coolants available and flushing the radiator but to no avail! it still overheats! The problem is so bad that whenever i go to work in the morning, my car will overheat! too long Q at traffic lights - Overheat!, go up slope to carparks - overheat! Even stationary also overheat! the obly way the car doesnt overheat is driving when there is no jam and driving at night or during rainy weather.
