Just changed to 50wt X-Rev

Must say it does what it claims.

 

Engine noise is softer, oil temp remains below 100 despite high revving, smooth acceleration all the way to high speeds (CVT, so can feel diff).

 

All these are in comparison to my previous 40wt oil. Previous oil made louder engine noise, temp was hitting 100 most of the time, sometimes even over that mark when I rev a lot, acceleration was always jerky and can't hit high speeds unless high rpm all the way.

 

I'm quite satisfied with the change. Just my personal review. Now waiting for my next servicing to see if this brand can last the 10k km and stay this way.

 

Btw, mine is a TC vehicle so that's why had to use 50wt.

check your specs......30wt is also suitable .

Mine also a TC car but not CVT though. But my owner's manual stated min W30.

 

W50 may affect your FC.

U may need an oil cooler to further reduce the temp of ur oil temp.

Not necessary ... Chewy's ride is using a light-pressure turbo ... that is unless he goes track every now and then!

Understand that you drive a Colt Plus Turbo? 50wt can also, but do try 30wt - no issues with Light pressure turbos unless u go to track every now and then!

 

Want to find out how good the oil? Do a UOA (Used oil analysis) and you'll be assured how the oil performs IN your engine!

 

Get the UOA kit! You can get it from Trex101 - PM him.

Good choice of brand but not sure if the 10W-50 is the best viscosity selection for your ride if yours is a LPT. I would say a 5W-30 or at most 5W-40 would be better. With a 10W-50 your FC would definitely suffer somewhat especially if you have been using a thinner oil.

 

Based on my own experience with this Xrev brand for 2 oil changes now, the oil should last you 10,000km provided that the mechanic followed the instructions and gave the bottle a good shake before pouring the contents into the engine. This will ensure that all the good stuff (additives) gets into the engine

if the bottle needs a shake before it gets poured into the engine, all it means is trouble!

 

if the so-called additives are not able to remain suspended, it'll just get stuck in the oil filter and/or settle right down in the oil sump when the engine is stopped.

 

and when u start up again, the 'additives' are nowhere near critical engine parts, and would prob clog the oil filter.

I can't find X-Rev API license in the API directory... Is it API, ACEA or JASO certify ? btw do you know which company in USA manufacture this oil?

I'm not sure how hot the oil wuld get when travelling for long distances at high speed. 1 of my friend told me he added an oil cooler to his Colt Plus Turbo & his oil temp is reduced frm 90+ degree to 70+ degree

Actually the oil cooler is not necessary when your car is not even modded even if it is turbocharged. BTW, oil is supposed to be "at home" at a temperature closer to 100 degC.

 

The oil sump pan below is already a cooler by itself. Pretty good already. Even if you are concerned with the hot weather we have. For every 1 degC in ambient, the contribution to the oil temp is 0.3 degC assuming there is no cooler.

I had initial concerns too. But when I checked up on this, it seems that the additives is fully liquid ie no suspension and therefor no possibility of clogging the oil filter. Just that it is heavier than the base oil, so it will settle. Once you get it into the engine, it bonds to the metal sufaces. I have noticed the difference when you do shake the bottle - the oil is thicker when the additives are well mixed.

if the 'additives' are heavier than the base oil, then the chemistry is wrong.

 

no engine oil should ever need to be shaken before being poured into the engine.
