hi all...encountered this in my friend's swift sport yesterday..slight drizzling..stopping at traffic light...want to test new mods....Rev rev abit....try to move off....at ard 2.5rpm...wheel spin like siao ting tong.....engine jerk....then slowly pickup instead...lose to SBS bus at left lane...MALU BIG TIME....

can anyone tell me what really causes wheel spins??? is it that the torque too much for the car???? alloy wheels too light??? tyres are crappy??? car too light??? any help is appreciated...

but tyres are new cos...car is only 1 month old!!!.....lousy tyres perhaps.... told him not to get that liao...firenza ST03....same tyres like mine...wet condition..the grip like crap... [thumbsdown] must change tyres at 15k....

but we tried this many times....never once got wheel spin...only this time ...after he put sprint booster and CAI and change to lighter rims all at one go...then try got problem...

Neutral Newbie

too high torque will

sudden break of traction will usually for turbo car when the torque suddenly comes in

wheel light wont cause spin

tyres crappy on wet confirmed by a friend at PG(ST03) [shakehead]

throttle control is your main problem here.

live with the setup and dont let the setup live with u.

Torque output has overcome the traction limit of the tyres. Very common on rainy days. If his car can smoke his tyres on a dry road, then he has a monster.

There can never be too much torque, haha...

1. Wet ground

2. Tires

3. Drop clutch too fast

4. RPMs too high

Wheelspin is easier to induce in a FWD car than the rest of the drivetrains because under acceleration the car's CG is shifted backward. Which means that the front wheel becomes unloaded (the reverse happens when you brake, more weight shift forward). The unloaded wheel can thus break traction easier.

You'll have to feed the clutch in. Or just take it easy on rainy days.

Even when its dry, 4WD/RWD will launch better than a similar powered FWD car.

Taxis are mostly RWD...... [pirate]

i guess its the light weight rims plus the wet floor plays a major part.if tyre botak also plays a major part.

lastly its the clutch control that will affect also.

if that's the case,it could be the light weight rims.

did you all ever tried on wet floor?

sprint booster and CAI is not the main factor to wheel spin.

with the sprint booster and also the road is slightly wet, definately will spin if you rev to 2.5k before you dump clutch, even my 8 seater will also wheel spin when the road is a bit wet smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

for manual cars, to wheel spin is very easy, just hold the rev before you dump the clutch, I did it very easily when I was driving all my previous sedan cars, you can even do it in the dry wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

Front wheel drive spins very easily...Get better traction tyres or install LSD...

Wet roads have lesser traction...SO...try it in the dry roads instead.......if it still spins like mad...Your car d*mn power...

I've managed to get wheelspin in almost every car (from 1L manuals to 4L autos) I've driven except 2.

Both were Hyundai (an Elantra and Sonata) with automatic gears, and could not be revved beyond 3K while holding on to the brake sly.gif

Generally, a manual car with sufficient clutch-life left can be wheelspinned when the clutch is dropped at 3K or more. Even my aging Presea with sticky 205 tyres could wheelspin in the dry. It's all about giving enough throttle and getting the clutch to bite hard. Too little throttle, not enough clutch bite and you'd either get "normal acceleration" or a burnt clutch (too much throttle, not enough bite).
