Nets Neutral Newbie July 7, 2007 Share July 7, 2007 Hi Bros, Realised that my ride's (Octavia A5)Cigarette lighter socket's current will not be cut-off after I cut the engine (unlike my prev Honda). Was wondering if it will be on continously or will be cut off automatically after x minutes.. If its on permanently, anyway to make it cutoff cos I'm worried if I forgot to unplug my devices.. it may drain the car batt. Off-topic: Anyone interested in Garmin Nuvi 310.. check out my classified ad http://www.mycarforum.com/classifieds/classifieds.pl?id=7707 ↡ Advertisement
Kongkm Neutral Newbie July 7, 2007 Share July 7, 2007 Octavia A4 is same, the socket is connected direct to supply through a fuse, so it will not cut-off by the key.

Shawrac Neutral Newbie July 7, 2007 Share July 7, 2007 Had tried using a vacum cleaner to clean the car with key in but engine off, Still on after 15 mins. Think direct to Battery!!!!

Yeobh 4th Gear July 7, 2007 Share July 7, 2007 The circuit is not via the ignition switch. So long as there is no electrical device plugged into the socket (with power ON), the circuit is not complete and therefore there is no current flow.
Sony 1st Gear July 7, 2007 Share July 7, 2007 Eh, I think most cars' electric socket don't cut off.. anyway, why die leh? if you are not using it, it's ok mar..
Nets Neutral Newbie July 7, 2007 Author Share July 7, 2007 Cos i thinking of plugging in my ipod in the car.. however if the power does not cut-off.. it may goes into a cycle of continous charging of my ipod and draining of car batt. Both precious may then have a shorter life loh..
Sony 1st Gear July 7, 2007 Share July 7, 2007 (edited) eh.. why don't you buy Harman Kardon Drive + Play for your Ipod. The 1st generation is actually quite cheap at US99 with free postage. or go to an ICE shop and ask them to tap the wire that light to your ignition key. Shawrac Neutral Newbie July 8, 2007 Share July 8, 2007 Cheap way, take out all device when u leave the car. Expensive way, get people to reconnect the wiring for the socket, change to the type engine off, no power, should not be a big operation but can be done. Get the car audio people to do as they know how to run the electric wiring. But u may be taken as robert when u ask them to do it, cos almost all labour cost. Pisces69 6th Gear July 8, 2007 Share July 8, 2007 Just buy a ciggy socket with wires attached (I seen 2 sockets i 1 pack) & connect the wires to the ignition switch "on" position yourself. Maybe just need to solder them in place. Or tap from the fuse box inside the cabin. Try to tap from a higher amp connection. Get an electrical accessory shop to do also sud not cost too much. Tell him what u want & he see u know how to do so he cannot chop u.
