Redboy 1st Gear August 20, 2007 Share August 20, 2007 (edited) I used to have a friend who can clocked 7 min plus My brother clocked below 6 mins during his red beret days wow. below 6 mins for 2.4km run? That's some achievement, even by commando standards! I suppose your bro must be the fastest ever runner in whole army or even singapore, if anyone were to keep a record of it. Seriously, your bro can represent s'pore in international events and even bring back that elusive gold medal for s'pore in olympics! It'd be great to see our own singaporean challenging those african runners! Edited August 20, 2007 by Redboy

Philiplolc Neutral Newbie August 22, 2007 Share August 22, 2007 best i ever did was during bmt in the late 80's.. 9.48.. last time i timed myself 10 yrs ago was 18mins.. kinda gave up going to ippt after that.. oh, and in case if this helps, not sure if it will still work as i'm out, no more ippt.. after being charged 2 times for missing ippt, i found a loop hole for rt.. for those who've done rt before, you'll know in the 1st rt its mainly briefing where they'll tell you about how if you got emergency or watever & can't make it for a particular rt lesson, don't call, don't write letter, don't do anything.. just turn up the next lesson and schedule a make-up lesson.. and if you miss 4 lessons, you'll be out of course and sent back to unit.. so basically, 1) turn up for the 1st rt lesson.. (very important to turn up for 1st lesson.. then they can't charge you for awol) 2) skip the next 4 and you're out of course and referred back to unit where they'll re-schedule your rt.. 3) and with the army standard, the re-schedule takes 4-6 mths.. 4) by which time its already next in-camp do ippt again, or do the same thing above again and kenna re-schedule.. i did that for 5 yrs.. always the running killed me never could pass.. so hope this still will work and it helps someone.. Agnoxis 3rd Gear August 22, 2007 Share August 22, 2007 Wah, I thought I saw wrongly also. People always say so-and-so can clock so-and-so timing, but when you posted onto the forum, my eyes nearly popped out because for a fact, I know that Singapore's fastest man right now can probably only do just below 7 minutes. So your bro is a good 1 min ahead of him! The fastest 2.4km I've ever witnessed with my own eyes is 7:40, and that's already a timing achievable only by varsity athletes. Even Hicham El Guerrouj (world record holder over 1500m) will probably struggle to do a 6:10. The fastest dudes at the AHM every year are those reservist national runners from 2PDF/6Div, whose former vocations are as varied from storemen to medics. Don't think our Commandoes have beaten them consistently before.

Porker Turbocharged August 22, 2007 Author Share August 22, 2007 That sorta time is achieved through very consistent hard training and is not sustainable for longer distances. It is IMPOSSIBLE to run at that speed for too long and I wanna add that he is almost dead by the time he completes the 6 laps. Its done through interval training fyi. 100m sprint followed by 100m walk for 2.4km Then increase to 200m sprint followed by 100m walk and etc etc. His consistent time is only flat 8 mins

Porker Turbocharged August 22, 2007 Author Share August 22, 2007 Hicham El Guerrouj does the 1,500m in 3.30s and probably will be able to do so in 4mins COMFORTABLY so another 900m or so will add 2 mins or so into the time no? 6 mins is definitely possible for him if he goes all out. Anyway you guys don't have to believe what I said because this is the internet. Just sharing something I know so no need to get our panties in a bunch
