Slowmo Clutched September 6, 2007 Share September 6, 2007 (edited) you mean the slow green thing? I'm on it... and I'm getting 'DC'ed every few hours lately. Wonderful ISP you might say. Seriously, I'm tempted to get my own leased line. even 56k modem (i still retain my dialup a/c) is more stable. Sony 1st Gear September 6, 2007 Share September 6, 2007 strangely, the singnet I'm currently on have been quite ok.. doesn't face all the DC which people have been experiencing but maybe this is on a more expensive line.
Lucien Neutral Newbie September 6, 2007 Share September 6, 2007 SINKNET IS ODEXED!!! BOYCOTT THEM!!!
Slowmo Clutched September 6, 2007 Share September 6, 2007 those who are on the older plans are more stable... especially magix with ATM cards... also the stablity depends a lot on individual areas... equipment used also different... your copper wires also different quality. at least thats what I know about sinknet. I have a colleague who is pissed off with their unscheduled/unanounce maintenance downtime... and that has happened a few times more than 2 months ago and their customer service has yet to furnish a satisfactory answer. I counted at least 40 calls has been made already.
Beei 1st Gear September 6, 2007 Share September 6, 2007 you are right.. alway got downtime.. and last time (3 or 4 years ago) my 256 plan pay around $65/mth if not wrong.. their website 512 plan put $49.90, my contract already over, and happily collect $$ from me.. so cancelled with them.. then called me to offer new plan to me.. wait long long.. not going to give $$ to them again.. Slowmo Clutched September 6, 2007 Share September 6, 2007 (edited) you best bet is to ask your neighbours who are avid gamers and using adsl. Even if you don't play online games, those MMORPG gamers are very sensitive to lag/ping times. Which relates to line and ISP quality... so they can be your gauge. Sony 1st Gear September 6, 2007 Share September 6, 2007 thanks. I'm not really into gaming, thus I think my expectation is not that high..
Typhoonz 4th Gear September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 Just get the plan you can afford... It's not about the free gifts but your usage... The free gifts are there to attract one to get something they don't need, thus resulting in you paying more for nothing... I equate the free gifts as you paying "installments" for them by paying a higher premium...
Slowmo Clutched September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 thats what most people tell me when i offered this suggestion. then when they are hit by sudden downtimes, they kpkb networks provided by ISPs should be consistent no matter how you look at it. thats why IDA got the 99% (or was it 95%?) uptime requirement. the MCF analogy: its just like choosing cars, if you drive a car that has been driven regularly for runs (eg. preferred by racers), versus you drive a car that has not been taken to the max (no one wants to touch it with a mile long stick) before... Even if you don't drive like a racer, you would still want reliability for your money what...
Tommisan 4th Gear September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 Hi Slowmo, I am on the hubstation and I must say the 1Mbps speed is sufficient for my needs. Sometimes I do leave my com switched on to run Seti for the whole night. Havent DC before. Are you on maxonline? Cheers, Tommy
Gearoil 1st Gear September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 I think your this post has to be locked and the mod to sent a message to you that such form of advertisements in the disguise of a thread in MCF forum is NOT allowed. Your action here is very obvious. You even used hyper links along the way to get forumers to 'click' into Singtel web. This is not what I would like to see forumers do in MCF! Slowmo Clutched September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 seti consumes very little bandwidth, it can operate even if you are on 14.4kbps modems. it burns your CPU instead, if you did not have sufficient cooling, you will shorten your PC lifespan, but thats another issue. SETI is not always connected to the server, it just pulls down work packages and processes it till it is done, then uploads. Yes, I think I did mention I'm on the slow green thing. Sony 1st Gear September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 Thanks. I understand the point you are bringing across. but so far, not many in my condo's forum have answer the thread. seems like they are not into forum
