Canon dslr camera

there is a more informed site out there called dpreviews where you can have a look at all (most) the reviews of the digital cams around. Try not to go to just one forum where there are plenty of zealots around. [laugh]

Depends on budget bro, I would buy a canon 1D if i can afford it, but i rather buy a car with that budget.

Also depend on what you like to use. Some model range have different crop factors from others and thereby will have slight limitation of some lens models.... not necessary a bad thing but this is true for most brands.

Me thinking of buying the D80 body only because I have alot of old nikon AFS lenses which D60 and below cannot support.

But my old lenses are big and heavy lor. Really in a serious dilemma whether if I should go for the new VR lenses like you did. VR helps shaky hands....many a times it's useful.

Going to tokyo in 3days time. Plan was to buy D80 body and come back coz it's only $1100 there.

I FULLY and TOTALLY agree with your last statement .It's not how many expensive lenses or expensive camera body with all the bell and whistle that count ; it's the 'eye' of the photographer has.

Nice to know someone shares my views :)

I'm still learning, but as I 'travel' in my path... I realise among others that there are much too focus on the technical quality of the picture then the content itself.

I do make the same mistake (I'm no professional), but I've stopped worrying about not getting the 'right' camera or lens and focus more on developing the right context.

It's also like me saying I want to buy an Evo IX, even I can afford it, but I know I'm a shitty driver, I cant race/drift , I cant park like russ swift, the hi-tech equipment will be 'wasted' on me. [laugh]

does the lens really play a part in the final image?I mean during the pre-digital age , carl zeiss and leica are consider much more superior than the then current japan lenses.

I'm also looking to buy a DSLR too and I'm leaning towards the Sony with carl zeiss lenses . [gossip]

Yes, it played a big big part.

my 24mm F/2.8 prime compared with normal travel 18-250mm F3.5.. its markly difference in colour, clarity and brightness.

Yes, invest on lenses. That simply means, if you chose Canon, you invest in canon lens, its likely you will stick with it for a long time. Unless you decided to change your stuff. Same goes for Nikon.

I'm using Nikon D300. If you want to compare the 2 lenses... Both use same body, and as much as possible, the same settings. (Taken a few days back of Tokyo Station)

Normal 18-250 Tamron Travel lens (very good travel lens)

I learn the hard way .I started my hobby during teens with a very basic nikkormat FT3 from my neighbour(that was in the early 80's) and while in Sec 3 manage to convince my dad to buy me a Nikon FM and a 43~86 nikkor zoom .

Later in life when I started working , spend most of my income on cameras and lenses like F2AS /F801/F801s/F4 ; a Leica M5 ; a Hasselblad 500cm ; Mamiya 645s etc .

I still have with me a Contax AX /Contax G1 ; a Rolleiflex 6002 and a Rolleiflex Xenotar F2.8(TLR) which was made in 1958 ; and some lenses .

To be a accomplish photographer , one need to take lots of picture and try every angle and are willing to accept mistake and learn from it.Looking and reading what others are doing is also essential .

In all I did not regret getting into this expensive hobbies but rather , help me stay out of harm way many-a-time during the growing up stage. [thumbsup]

well.. it depends... some do venture into the more 'human art' aspects of photography if you get what i mean. [sly]

for my limited experience, it's not as varied or deep as yours i believe... i was thrown a set of yashika manuals with mouldy lenses... at that time was young + poor.. so you can guess i gave up soon after looking at the print results.

was until quite recently that i had the conviction to pick it up again...... can also thank a particular ex of mine who was quite a critic on my old photos. So just want to get things done right this time. [;)]

I chose Canon because I just love white coloured lenses and would hopefully have a good collection of those someday. [;)] And of course, I have more confidence in mucking around with canon firmware upgrades be it printers, scanners, prosumers, p&s or dslrs.

Yeah...the auto-focus function of the D60 is built into the lens (and not the body),hence if used with older lenses, the D60 needs to be focussed manually. That's what it says in the manual [:p] . My hands are really shaky, and I need VR especially with low light shots. I just spent the day shooting at the Botanical gardens, the VR works really well (although not always fool proof, sometimes still shake). The pics are much, much better than my previous Ixus, I always had to take a few shots and choose the less blur one. Now all the pics are clear [:)] . Wow, the D80 is cheap in Japan...go for it man [;)] .

during the pre-digital age , contax and yashica share the same mount .

The current sony 'A' mount is compatible with the konica-minolta mount.

I know Contax and Yashica shares the same mount, Carl Zeiss Yum Yum! That's why I wonder how you gonna use those Zeiss lens with a Sony. Unless you are talking about the new Zeiss lens offered by Sony

Neutral Newbie
If u getting dslr camera, i recommend u to take Nikon.

Its better.

erm... i don't think you fully understand the statement you are making, especially the last part.

you might want to rethink that statement again, and/or find another way to say it- because it says a lot about yourself...

if you like zeiss, consider waiting for the sony a900, to launch late this year. full frame so you'll fall right in with the 'normal' perspective.

No doubt that Carl Zeiss and Leica are superior in SLR lens, but do you know how much Carl Zeiss glasses you have in a Sony DC ?

Ans : less than a 10-cent coin, and only one piece in the many pieces. The rest are "plastic" lens to bring down the cost.

You might have more Carl Zeiss lens if you pay for the Sony's Alpha DSLR professional range lens, but their prices also reflected that.

Walao ! Your collection make my mouth watering.

Just make sure to use them from time to time to prevent mould from building.

Hi bro & sis,

Thx in advance.

Visit the review section & forums at www.dpreview.com. You can find reviews with sample images for almost all DSLR, and all information you need for your decision making.

I use Olympus E-1 with 50mm macro, 14-54mm and 50-200mm. So if you need information on Olympus, I would be happy to provide it.
