Which is better? Car in my name or wife's?

Your wife cannot transfer her NCD to you

cos NCD is non-transferable. Tie to person and

not vehicle.

If you are the principal driver, you should

registered the car under your name. And the

car insurance under your name and your wife

as additional driver.

It is better for you to start building your

NCD now than later.

1 more thing, make sure when you change the

car ownership to your name, you should still be

the first owner of the car.

There should also be an excess for any 'unnamed' driver that gets into an accident when driving the car. I believe it should be close to 2.5k. Working out the sums, isn't it around the same as the other 2 options? To close up any open-ends, do check with the insurer for the excess amount for the 'unnamed' driver.

From agents and friends, I understand that NCD can be transferred from parent to child. Between spouses I'm not too sure.

Was told by Agent that the NCD can be transferred from my wife to I when we change vehicle. Of cos, if I dont get a new car, means I will never have NCD.

By car ownership, since I have not taken possesion of the car, all I need to do is to tell the Authorised Dealer to change it to my name?

If you think you are a safe driver, with low possibility of getting into an accident which is your fault, then by all means register under your own name, which you mentioned the premium is even cheaper than your wife's.

off topic a little.. if a person sells his car and goes overseas for a couple of years.. when he returns, is he able to retain his NCD?

for Kah motors, i believe you must take the in house insurance to be able to enjoy the in-house insurance discount...

Yes u can get the inhouse discount, after collecting ur car n CANCEL AXA immediately and pay a small penalty. $50 at times.

Do up another policy asap.

Cheers

My Kah Motor salesperson isnt the best. Not thorough and very vague.

In any case, do I have the option to chose my owned insurance company or do I need to stick to the Kah Motor one? I believe its AIG which I have told explains the high premiums and excesses.

Firstly I dun tink the underwriter is AIG. Becos KAH Motors is tied with either AXA or Allianz for new cars while AIG is tied to Borneo Motors.

Moreover, AIG new policies do not have the "higher excess for 26 years or less than 2 year driving experience" clause liao. They have switched to age group policies.

You might be right there, I remember it starts with an A but cannot remember which was which.

Any recommendations for insurers for myself?

The guys are right ! You got to build up your own NCB sooner or later and hiding behind the wife is not a good start !

Furthermore, if you decide to dumb the wife, you can still keep the car but if it is her name, she would claim that she owns it ! [laugh][laugh][laugh] ....okay,sorry, just joking !

My buddy have been driving for the past 20 odd years and guess what, he does not have any NCB because it was all the cars were registered in the BOSS's name ! As long as he don't dumb the boss or gets dumbed, he gets to enjoy low insurance premiums.

In conclusion, get a start yourself ! Don't ride on your better half !
