Anyone knows how to go there? From commonwealth avenue turn left into bouna vista mrt there, go all the way straight? Is it near fairfield?

You reminded me of the guy that crashed the lancer that carries 2 friend to death at Thompson bend.

That guy claimed that he travelled below 60kph too. :)

 

The recent EG6 driver also claimed that he was traveling at 60km/h. Not just the Lancer.

 

On a side note, I think TS is just curious about the location of the bends with no intention to race there.

Many, many years back when I was a baby in my mother's arm, I was taken for a ride along the 99 bends.

 

According to my mum, I foamed throughout the trip.

As I mature and get to drive my own car, the 99 bends became not as legendary as before.

 

Maybe I was driving at 50km/h, that's why.

Travel that road for don't know how many times already.

Of cos, cannot compare with you.

 

Normal speed should be ard 40 to 50km/h.

Anything higher is asking for trouble.

 

But I am not worry about his speeding issues,

I more worried that the TS drive till no petrol

and car got stuck at the 99 bend.

I had some memories of that route. I was an NS policeman in the late 80s.

 

one night shift, me and my patrolman were assigned to the pasir panjang sector. This covered 99 bends.

 

The Pasir Panjang area was quite happening at the time. There was a stretch which had great hawker food, and had shady ladies who served the angmohs in the nearby bungalows.

 

Now we were expecting company on this route.There was another car, the roaming patrol car that provided back-up to the team. In this car were two well-known cowboys (a bit like the nasty boys), but they had an ns chap with them... a studious, no-nonsense religious chap which the watch officer probably picked to even things out.

 

it was around 3am when we started doing our rounds at 99 bends. I was the driver that night. The road was dark and deserted. We heard on the radio the two cowboys had conveniently dumped their NS chap at Alexandra Hospital for ward duty, and had the car to themselves. My partner chuckled and shook his head. Now taxis were not easy to get in that area. With plenty of dubious but hot women around, and boys being boys, sometimes they would provide 'taxi service' to damsels in distress. This I shall not elaborate on.

 

Now as I mentioned, we were expecting the cowboys to be on this route(Where else would they be?) Lo and behold, we soon chanced upon them up ahead as we neared the end of the curves. I accelerated and soon were behind their car. I flashed the headlights customarily as we sought to discover what they were up to. At that point, despite the road being dark, we could make out the silhouettes of 3 or 4 passengers in the back seat. We started joking about how the boys getting lucky that night.

 

All of a sudden their car accelerated, screeching tyres and all. We were a bit confused. I tried to look up ahead for any signs of distress, and my partner turned up the radio set in case we missed a message, but their blinkers remained off. I maintained our speed. We could see them going very fast and lose us around the next bend. I even thought they were trying to shake us off for some serious hankypanky, but the next thing we saw as we approached a bend was they were now coming very fast from the opposite direction. They must have made a u-turn and came back. You know how it is when you pass by another car at a tight corner - there is an instant when your headlights caught the entire interior of the opposite car. We were quite worried and kept our eyes on them. As they passed us, my partner who was chattering and complaining non-stop suddenly fell completely silent. Fortunately I had my eyes on the road. As the bends ended, I looked at him. He signalled me to u-turn without saying a word, but as he gestured, I could see his hands shaking like a leaf. I turned around and played catch up again.

 

I didn't see the cowboys again until we reached a small mosque at the end of the bends. The two front doors were opened and our two buddies stood by the side, smoking profusely. It was quite bright there with new streetlights shining strongly. I alighted from the car and was about to ask about their passengers, but caught sight of my partner. I realised then how pale he looked. He put his finger to his lips and shook his head. I looked at the two cowboys. They looked just as pale. Worse, as I got closer, I realised one of them had actually wet his pants.

 

All of us stood there, silent. Nobody said anything. I had 101 questions but realised it wasn't the time to ask. Neither was anything mentioned at debriefing.

 

It was four days later after our break when one of the cowboys resigned, while the other sought a transfer to another division. My partner was then composed enough to complete the story.

 

The cowboys did not realise they had passengers until I flashed my headlights at them. After the flash, the driver looked at the rear view mirror but saw dark spots blocking his view. They turned around and saw the back seat full of.... non-human entities, in appearances as if purposely crafted to paralyse the boldest of men through sheer horror, the same sight my partner saw as their car went past. It shocked the driver so much that he stepped on the brakes and their car swerved and turned around, which if you know how tight it is with the trees and ditches, could very easily have been fatal, just like the numerous accidents there in the months before. Still, the driver had the composure to speed away looking for solace in the nearby mosque. Their rear seats were emptied again when they stopped.

 

that's my story of 99 bends. If you read again, though i was there, i was fortunate enough not to be a direct witness. Still, be careful. The bends themselves can be a bit of a handful to the uninitiated, and that's without the additional 'distractions'.

What he did was he posted a "Singaporean bochap" thread quite some time ago and then you folks made fun of him in an endless-eternal way for 99 times.

Not going to race there. I got no guts and no skill and no experience. Thats why i want tips from lao jiaos here on how to improve my driving.

Go there at 40-50km/hr and you should be alright.

Not really that scary. Avoid traveling the bends at night.

 

To add, if you are a P-plater, travel there at an even lower speed. Maybe 30-40km/hr.

The place can be really eerie at night especially with the rustling leaves in the breeze.

 

I don't know about the fastest, but I know if you leave the car in neutral, you can go down the bend in about 4+ minutes.
