can - because there are questions with no definite one answer. think this mostly true when it comes to very advanced sciences, social sciences, and even math.

then the questions are written badly. not specific enough.

The answer is "No". Reason: human fertilisation most commonly takes place in the fallopian tubes, specifically the ampulla of the tube. Since these sperm are non motile (no tails) they cannot reach the egg to fertilise it.

My child was given a science question today :-

Qn. The Earth rotates around the Sun.

True / False / Depends

Explain.

My answer is False.

The Earth revolves around the Sun in around 365 days but rotates on it's own axis in about 24 hours.

Any other answers ?

This is a terrible question and whoever came up with it deserves to be shot into the sun via cannon.

The diagram is a bit disjointed from the question le.

If deposit sperm without tails on that locality, the female is not likely to become pregnant. Sperm motility (the process) is affected. An egg is released from one ovary into a fallopian tube and must be fertilised by the sperm, and the zygote to implant onto the endometrium before pregnancy can occur. By the time the egg reaches the position of the tailless sperm, it would have become non-viable.

Acceptable?

I looked up rotates..: move or cause to move in a circle round an axis or centre.

With that definition - I would have to say true -

Yep, the earth does move in a roughly circular motion with the sun as a "centre" or axis

Of course - as a smartarse - you could also say false on the argument that the orbit is not circular...

this cb question doesn't deserve a cb answer

it needs an answer from the LJ perspective

You don't have tailless sperm.

Haha...

Actually the question is morally wrong. Certain contraceptives affect the tails of sperm, and the way it is being phrased seems to be that you will not be pregnant if the sperm is retained at the entrance and are somehow immotile.

science has to have real life application

the real question is: how can we have sperm with no tail as and when we want them to? [laugh]
