not too sure how real it is but u can goggle "hp venture russia", most like a company name with F would appear and go find our more about this company if you r free.... .. i seriously hope it is not true because if it does happen, many local SME company here would be affected with no more business from them is what i predict....... [sweatdrop]

nah, I don't think the F will aquire the whole of HP, maybe the PSG (Psersonal System Group) - PC/Notebooks portion, just like IBM have off loaded their PC/Notebook to Lenovo.

My guess is HP will keep the Printer and Mainframe Group. As for the Mainframe, these are not consumer products that you can buy off the shelf, the sales cycle is very long, sometimes about more than 1year when you deal with Gahment accounts and lots of after sales support.

HP still have the Printer and Mainframe Group. As for the Mainframe, these are not consumer products that you can buy off the shelf, the sales cycle is very long, sometimes about more than 1year when you deal with Gahment accounts and lots of after sales support.

i've got few friends in hp... it seems like instead of retrenching its using other tricks in the book so exits seem 'voluntary'. the numbers leaving are not small

Heard that HP been cutting people since last year... affected Vancouver, San Diego and Singapore...

Similarly in Venture, heard that around 500-1000 whole Singapore... all 'cut' unofficially... just ask them to leave... some with reason of 'Poor Performance' without any 'golden handshake'...

i think ppl who post the coy name here needs to differentiate 'retrenchment' and 'fired due to unsatisfactory performance'.

i work for one of the coy listed and no, there is not retrenchment. ppl sacked due to unsatisfactory performance, yes.. =)

R u aware how huge PSG is and how much revenue it's generating for HP?

HP did 118billion for fy08, $42.3 billion, or 35.7 percent, is from PSG.

PSG is generating a lot of business and i dun see why hp will ever sell it.

If HP takes the IBM route, then it will lose it's key advantage of being a true end to end provider.

Fyi HP does not sell mainframe, in today's context, mainframe is an IBM thing.

HP has mainframe replacements that delivers better availability with lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

alot of other kind of retrenchments are going on.....

bosses can make staff feel so bad that staff just automatically resign.

bosses can issue warning letters to staff for small mistakes so that staff can automatically resign

bosses can make staff feel lousy in doing some lousy jobs that staff can automatically resign

so many ways to 'retrench' staff without paying benefits...

damm bloody smelly ways of axing ppl....

All these are not reported in media. So the figures are very very high....

Seen it with my own eye. Manager of a team was "demoted" and made to report to one of the team member who used to work under him.

LL after you a few months this manager automatically resign.

Furthermore this is a Govt Stat board that I'm talking about. [lipsrsealed]

Dirty underhand method but hey this is Singapore

as far as i know, venture go with "contract" basis kind of employment for quite sometimes already and those "cut" are mostly contract, so, technically speaking, they are not retrenching... [sweatdrop]

hopefully i don't start seeing names like "MOE, MINDEF" etc

it'll really wreck my nerves

Relaxed, recently a minister has mentioned that the health, education and home affairs are on hiring spree! so i guess there should be no retrenchments in these sectors.. but there are still ppl asked to leave due to 'unsatisfactorily' performance (small nos), so these are technically not considered as retrenchments.

i think in such trying times , one had better be more on the ball, or risk being replaced by better and cheaper ppl waiting outside!

even the only broadcaster in Sg is implementing shorter work week.. those cannot tahan will automatically say bye bye!

that's always one of the tricks, just re-assign something that is not your expertise and set high demand

[laugh] Mainframe is just a catagory of computer system, Mainframe being the biggest follow by Mini then by Micro Computers. Micro is what you are using now, PC & Notebook. There are other Mainframe makers, for Japs like Hitachi, NEC, Fujitsu.. there used to be other Euro makers last time but all being bought over or die of natural death, ICL (International Computers Limited) was once the biggest Mainframe maker in UK, they were bought over by Fujitsu in the early 90's.
