Leepee 1st Gear April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 (edited) The power will be the same. The difference might be all in the mind. Strictly speaking all petrol has the same caloric heating value! So the same power output per combustion! I suggest you pump 95 at night and when you will be taking a long drive after. The night drive usually will be smoother due to lower air temp and higher humidity. This will psycho you into accepting 95 is just as good petrol. Many people with 'bias prejudice' will try to justify that 95 is low power and not smooth. You will save some $$ at each pumping thats all. You keeping your car for ten years or not? If not, then all the petrol 95vs98 and synthetic/mineral issues are not very important. My SSS sometimes even drink 92, when my pocket money is drained. Servicing also use mineral oil. So far nothing happened. Still as powerful and smooth. Even all my friends who drove nicers cars with smooth IL6 engines say that my car engine is generally smooth and powerful! Watwheels Supersonic April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 It does not make a diff if your engine is not running on high air-fuel ratio compression.
Pocus Turbocharged April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 It does not make a diff if your engine is not running on high air-fuel ratio compression. But for Swift Sport it make a difference bcos it IS running on high compression ratio, 11.1:0 IIRC. I read somewhere for best results use 98, 95 is still okay for a stock engine but 92 is suicide: slowly killing the engine. If your engine starts to ping, better switch back to higher grade. power and FC wise, I felt it makes a difference, but that's my butt feeling. This apply to all high compression ratio vehicles. Be it RX-8 or Honda Absolute Odyssey.. So, my mind kept reminding me to pump 98.. Hahaha
Mit81 Clutched April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 even those swift sport owners tat pump boleh land fuel which is ron 97 experince engine pinging once awhile. As for engine oil, swift sport n ignis sport rolled out of the factory with syn engine oil. There must be a reasons for all that. Don save on these then ending regretting yr actions later. Pcslim Neutral Newbie April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 Unless u are talking about 92, 95 is still a reasonably good grade petrol. I switch between 95 and 98 often - depending on the thickness of my wallet at the point of time.
Watwheels Supersonic April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 When you buy car you gotto weigh the pros and cons. And when you choose the more sporty Swift over the normal Swift this is something you gotto give.

Cars nowadays are fitted with a safety mechanism to prevent pinging. When lower RON petrol is detected, it simply just retards the firings, thus engine will appear more sluggish, but at least there will not be pinging. Mit81 Clutched April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 Mostly likely due to boleh land fuel n high compression ratio of the car. It happen to me, lucky I got a bottle of octance booster.
Pocus Turbocharged April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 For a normal car like swift...using higher grade like 98 will not make any diff....don't waste money... perhaps for a normal car like Swift 1.3 or 1.5, which have a normal engine with normal compression ratio of 9.5:0 But for the 1.6 Swift Sport with higher compression ratio....pls take care...
