Hye fellow exorians. I'm ynizam from melaka.

Just got back from SG last night. Spent 2 days around town.

Only managed to see a silver, Grey and white exora.

i went to both proton's showrooms n one SE in ubi told me about this forum.

so, i come by this forum with the hope to meet SG's exorians.

and i am not disappointed. hey Shorty! nice to meet you here!

[wave] [wave] [wave]

i spent almost 3 hours reading this particular thread from start.

there are so many things that from the discussion that ...

i wish .. i can .. i want .. i should ... to say... share ... respond ...

there are myths, presumptions, expectations, facts, opinions ...

some are true, some are good facts .. some .. are just dead false.

first .. intro: my drive:- manual, white, basic model

next, important quick notes to share:

1. proton are on Campro engines for all its New models

- no run-ins!!! it is GO WILD from 0! no need to wait 1000km.

- i hit 160km/h from melaka to KL on the 2nd day of ownership.

- no 10 mins warm up in cold condts either!

- as along as u patiently let the electronics to settle in the first 15 secs after you keyed-in,

then you start up - you campro engines will be just fine.

- no INSTANT pickup for all campros (except NEO- lighter chasis factor)

- but this cars can speed! 170 is my highest on my exora, 180 for Saga.

2. all campro are fuel efficient (to a certain extent!)

- drive steady under 4k rpm, you'll get above the 10km/l mark

- once you cross the open pod barrier, you get speed but you also need to fill up sooner.!

3. Manuals are more fuel saving than Autos ....

- bad news rite? but at least you more relax while driving

- how to save? just dont speed. drive casual. it's a MPV. people keep forgetting that fact. hehe

4. Once you change from stock 15" to anything more ... dont bother about FC anymore.

- any calculations based from the board are INVALID since it is based on the stock 15" rotation.

- if you get higher Fc, it's basically because the distances have been cut down by a bigger tyre.

5. TBC Exora is still a 1.6 - Out in 2012. with FL. but no slider for 2nd row seats! ha ha!

- no 1.8 anytime soon. that caps is for a new model coming in later this year.

6. IGNORE all bad comparisons based on engines cap. they are just people who dont own exoras.

- comparisons based on numbers and ratios are useless too. You have to drive to know the feel.

- a 10 mins drive doesnt tell a lot about a car or engine ability that you will drive for years to come.

7. price and features - not going into that .... you need to know macro / micro economy really well.

- if you can afford BETTER car ... dont play down on other cars. hehehe you might own one later!!

8. underpowered? those who dont own an exora will say this based on pure numbers and hersay.

- i got up genting, cameron, wang kelian, my mum's school, jusco roof top parking ... full load ...

all up to speed .... what power are they claiming to be insufficient?

- autos .. D. 2. 3. L - use them. hehehe why are Exora slow going up hill they asked?

- Answer:: Bad unexperienced SLOW driver!

9. those getting exoras manufactured under 23k (see back mirror, bottom left - last 6digits)

- go and get your thermo amps change - dont wait for it to break down.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST .....

10. minor things to change (without fail) during 1000.5000 or 10000km service

- bump stopper, insulator, grounding cable, back wiper ... hehehehe ... and the list goes on ....

- all are listed in proton service bulletin .... kindly ask the SC to check the bulletin

Be it campro, boxer or V8 engines, cant really agreed with you on this point....if you actually know the internal operations

of the engine & its components, you'll know why running-in an engine is important for its future operations...

You wont feel or see any damage now but in the long run you will.

starting with excessive oil loss, excessive engine noise & poor fuel consumption & so on & so forth...

Not worth that kind of driving style during that 1st 1-3k of new engine life.

Do you know that brakes & even tyres do need run-in too to achieve its optinium performance....

.. cant really agreed with you on this point....

... Not worth that kind of driving style during that 1st 1-3k of new engine life.

Do you know that brakes & even tyres do need run-in too to achieve its optimum performance....

yup ... agree with that point of view. everything needs a run-in to achiever its max.form

my point - you don't have go as far as - have to wait 1000km - before you can run the run the full potential of the car.

source of the given tip - en.khairul (former proton engineer - r&d) August 2008

reason - every campro engine is test bed 24 hours run-in before installed into the car.

major parts - tires, brakes, suspension, are manufactured for with the same purpose.

once it is assembled, it will perform to its max.form.

i have used my saga for 25 months now. it is now reached the 90k barrier.

Oil loss, engine noise, poor FC, etc - has yet to be in my list of trouble. the engine and car still drives, feels new.

Based on khairul's advice, as long as i keep my service intervals, tires and brakes checked, the car should be fine.

- service at every 5k

- tyres rotation every 10k

- new tyres at 60k

- brake check every 10k

- new brake pads every 40k

- balancing and alignment every 10k

- new suspension at 60k

- gears check every 20k

- new spark plugs every 25k

the issue - should the driver do the run-in?

- yes, if that is how he has been doing it with every new car prior.

- no, he doesn't have to. campro engines are not meant for 'warm-up' runs.

it works for me. up to others to decide.

- driving a $50,000-over car at 90-100km/h is so - out of this life time! hehehe

additional tip :-

- express warn up (for engines that have been dead for more than a day)

- rev the engine with 10-15 secs interval at every 1000 mark on the RPM

-- start the car (normal idling at 800-1000)

--- at 3000 (15 secs)

--- at 4000 (15 secs)

--- at 5000 (10 - 15 secs)

--- up till 7000

--- note :: your car wont explode. if it does, call a mech. :)

200++ Exoras ... huhuhu ... i guess most are meant for drives into malaysia.

thats why hardly visible on the road like you said ...

yup. feedbacks .... i've shared some..

the rest ... we go to that as we go along.

human:

- thats very reasonable milage dont you think?

-- any exoras that are able to clock above 550km on a full gas before the numbers go '---' is doing just fine ...

- the tat tat sound is MOST PROBABLY the front suspension

-- make a report during 1000 mark service, you should get a bump stopper for that.

200 exoras?...dats quite a lot. suprised dat i didnt see most of them. mayb also mostly red plate, so only out at nite or wkend. feedbacks n tips shared r well noted. after my initial servicings in spore, will do servicings in msia. will save quite a lot i heard.

I guess, at the end of the day its up to the owner to decide despite the recommendations

listed in the manual.

Since the introduction of the campro cps engine, I have never doubted its capabilities...

thats why I now own the exora....I have always been amazed at how the R&D dept work

to ensure parts durability--take for example the 2nd row tumble seats & of course the campro engine.

If only there were more people like youself standing by your national product-- impressions of

proton would be much better.....then parts suppliers will ensure better quality parts.

rather then just trying to make a quick buck!

Nice getting to know you here...sharing on our rides & pin pointing some common faults.

so that we will not be tricked to believe some out of the world story from the SC

whenever we report a problem during our service appointment.

Cheers.....

This is my driving habits:

1. Wait for the Temp mark to reach 3bars before moving off.

2. Tune your mind that this is a 1.6MPV,no need to test for pick-up or racing.

3.Main concern for getting this car 7 adults can seat comfortably and enjoy the cool air-con for all the rows.

4. The car can reach the distination from Point A to Point B safely.

...sharing on our rides & pin pointing some common faults.so

that we will not be tricked to believe some out of the world story from the SC whenever we report a problem during our service appointment.

thats the thing really .. some of us in Exora Owners Club (EOC) share that common standing

with the hope, IN THE END, we, owners will get what we should get for every cent we pay ...

the club will do its best to find the best solution and share it with the rest

all the parts that i have mentioned earlier - to be changed - are common problems in Exora for the past 12 months.

get them changed before they happen and give you head ache.

-- common impression - proton is halfway to its supposed standard.

-- sales - yes .. it has surged up and shown it can go further

boy ... for a company that sells 150,000 cars a year world wide, too much is expected of proton

-- service - present management have this nobel idea of being nice and efficient with the end users.

but ... those ground staff are sometimes too hard headed - too slow - too later-later can lah!!!

like everything else in this service world, unless you know someone, you wont get moving fast enough.

--- quality - proton is where japs and koreans were in the 90's now

trying hard to get the balance between BEST quality product with MINIMAL price tags.

with politics and bla bla bla playing integrals parts in any GLC businesses, sometimes it is a miracle proton is able to make GOOD cars today.

--- service centres & spareparts - well ... it is always safer to get parts from Proton Edar Sdn Bhd and EON only.

authorised dealers - well .... unless you know someone personally at those places, dont bet too much on them.

they are cheaper - yes - but IF and WHEN you car breaks down, they are not much help, giving the same excuses like other parts dealer.

1. Wait for the Temp mark to reach 3bars before moving off.

3.Main concern for getting this car 7 adults can seat comfortably and enjoy the cool air-con for all the rows.

4. The car can reach the distination from Point A to Point B safely.

1 - no need for that ... for VERY COLD early morning, after 30 secs on the engine, do quick 10-secs revs on 3k,4k,5k and 6k.

2 - Great tuning! hehehe ... but it is so hard to let the pedal go at 140kmh right?

3 - 6-hour drive (KL-Perlis) all 7 adults. great ride, everyone got the chance to drive ... no one suffered cramps sitting at the 3rd row...

everyone sitting at back complaints of coldness! .. hah! some people! hehehe

4 - lets all pray for that .. amin ...

this is from other forum, claim the attach rubber was too harden, when the unit operate, it generate the virbration and causing the sound appear.

This part is located at the engine compartment firewall area- directly behind the glove box of the front dashboard..

from the picture-is mentioned as a/con blower. may be some device linked to the a/con blower.

this morning did an emergency brake, some car cut into my lane...dont know if abs worked-after the braking.

heard a 1-2 second rattling/vibration sound coming from behind the front dashboard- below glove box area.

wonder if its coming from this device or some abs device..

only happen once so far after the emergency braking.

anyone experience this or knows what I actually heard...
