Gets hit, gives thumbs up, Says Hi mate to the guy behind.

"Travelling along Canberra avenue toward the city in an 80km/h zone. Traffic had backed up ahead and come to a stop. As I came to a stop I checked my mirror and moved to the right of the road in case the car behind wasnt paying attention. I saw him come to a stop and relaxed, looking away. The next thing I knew I was looking at the sky - was the guy three cars back that didnt stop."

I ride damn slow. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

I wanted to try a dual sport, a perfect combination for on road and some off road. Up right position for all body parts.

I think I have found my perfect bike even when it's still 100% stock condition. The perfected DS will be CRF305L. [sly]

Hello fellow riders,

I just got my class 2b about 2 weeks ago and bought a Phantom TA200 the next day for practise  [laugh]

I wish I found this thread earlier. I was reading through the older posts and never knew that there were so many more awesome 2b bikes.

My office will be moving to a building that has no more season parking for cars available so I'll be riding daily soon  [;)]

Any advice for newbie riders? I've started observing what other riders do but don't think I have the confidence to squeeze through traffic yet.

Wear proper gear. Minimum of a full-face helmet, padded/armoured riding jacket, gloves, long pants/jeans and covered shoes. You can upgrade to riding jeans/pants and riding shoes/boots if you so wish.

Take your bike to a quiet place and practice braking, gradually building up to e-braking scenarios. This will give you a better understanding of what your bike is capable of. It also builds up muscle memory in your hands and feet that *might* help you from panicking and locking-up/going down if you ever encounter an unexpected situation. Of course the idea is to work on your anticipation skills and situational awareness to avoid getting into unexpected situations in the first place.

[laugh] I went on a shopping spree before my TP test and got all the riding gear you mentioned including armored kevlar jeans and boots. After seeing all the accidents involving motorcyclists on SRD, I could use all the protection I can get.

Good point on the e-brake. I've been practicing u-turns and first gear half clutch crawls so far. Will do e-braking next. Thanks.

Any thoughts on lane splitting? I'm currently riding like how I drive, just stop behind a vehicle. I saw a SRD video where a kuku van couldn't stop in time and crushed a motorcyclist who had stopped behind a car due to traffic on the expressway. I think this could have been avoided if the motorcyclist had lane split.

Lane-splitting depends on comfort level. Most people start off by not splitting lanes, then progress to lane-splitting in stationary traffic, then slow moving traffic and finally end up splitting lanes in all kinds of situations.

I'm selective on where I lane split. In some places I can be considered a lunatic (although I always have an escape plan) and in some places I don't lane split at all.

Just don't do it blindly, always be assessing and planning ahead. Assume everyone on the road is braindead and out to kill you. Always move into safe pockets asap, minimise the time you spend alongside other vehicles when on the move.

I bought and rode back a class2 motorbike after I sold my car (after driving for 3 years). Initially i have difficulty adjusting myself to lane-split as well even though i had >5 years of riding experience. Took me about 1 week to grow back my balls to lane-split.
.

Once you get out of the driving mentality, lane-splitting will come in naturally to you.

I'm riding & driving... lane split will come naturally as u realised its dangerous to follow a car in lane. Not just because of the possibility of car hitting u fm behind but u will realise that many cars will break for no reason or too early. Bikes breaking distance is longer there's a danger of ur bike not stopping in time n hit the front car. keeping a larger safety distance is alsmost not an option in sg cos other vehicles will just cover up the space in front of u.
