I read that the 2.0 is a new vvti-iw engine with direct injection that is more fuel efficient whereas the 2.5l is dual vvti. Both mated to 6 speed gearbox. Still trying to decide. ER-3682 Supersonic July 23, 2015 Share July 23, 2015 (edited) No cars is underpower nowadays ,depends on what you need,if you are looking for "Boy Racer" performance,then this car is out for you,cannot compare the Camry's power with a Subaru WRX....the 2.0 Camry engine is a new high compression engine,which is a tad noiser..it work best on 98 petrol... My own judgment is that if the 0-100km/h acceleration is within 11s, I think it is ok. The Camry 2.0 is 10.8s and the 2.5 is 9.2s. The 2.0 acceleration does appear a bit slow but within my acceptable range. When I test drive the Nissan X-trail 2.0, I feel it is underpower, and the 0-100km/h time is 12.1s Although the price is just $6000 difference, you need to factor in the road tax difference as well. It is about $600 difference every year, so, 10 year, the difference is another $6000. I calculated the difference in annual cost (depreciation + roadtax + petrol) is about $1,350 per year for my mileage of 15000km/yr. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I really wanted to buy the camry FL, but when BM brought it in - they spec the worst stuff compared to what Thailand is getting. Very difficult to convince myself. I was just thinking that if the car is too heavy for the 2.0, FC may suffer in start/stop traffic conditions. Definitely not looking for a performance car. The differnce is there but i am not convinced to go to the 2.5. Gonna give the new 2.0 vvt-iw engine which claims better FC a go. Also considered the additonal running costs you mentioned in my decison. The 2.5 is the face-lifted 2012 model and the changes are only in the looks, everything else is the same. I beg to differ bro. Thailand home market max octane at RON 95 only, and they are E10... meaning there's 10% Ethanol mix into the gasoline to keep the cost down. Most drivers over there uses E20, which is 92octane mixed with 20% Ethanol. All their cars, from Vios to Lambo, runs nicely over there. Anyway the new engine is still too weak for the Camry. The Atkinson cycle does nothing except to boost fuel economy. Pure Atkinson cycle engine actually makes far less power than a same engine with conventional Otto cycle. You see how much hp the Prius 1.8 and Prius C gasoline engines are making? Those are running on pure Atkinson cycle. Toyota merely incorp. 2 tech into one engine thanks to modern VVTi and fast ECU.
