Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2009 Share December 21, 2009 last time I heard ppl saying it's pronounced as "yi kayea", I thought it was "yikia" from young. So I was also quite keen to find out whats the correct pronunciation. So when I had the chance to go to northern europe (somewhere near sweden), I asked the locals how they pronounce it and they say they just pronounce it as "yikia". Actually the blue and yellow of the stores represents the national colors of the Swedish flag.

Genie47 1st Gear December 22, 2009 Share December 22, 2009 OK checked with the Swedes. It is Eee-Kay-ya-uh. Radio Sweden will use Aye-Kay-ya-uh. This pronounciation is actually Anglicized and accepted by the English speaking countries. So both are acceptable and the Swedes understand both to mean this furniture store. As for why their stores are red compared to the yellow and blue national color versions here, I have yet to get a reply. Will update you guys. Kianbeng Clutched December 22, 2009 Share December 22, 2009 Let me ask the other forum I go to. Many Swedes, Norwegians and Danes. Maybe even in the scandinavian countries the pronunciation varies. ie, in Norway it's called Yi Kia. But bro Sugar said when he was in Sweden, it's called Yi Kay Ya.... But anyway it's true....just pronounce it the way most ppl here pronounces it. Otherwise you'ld be weird. I also pronounce Carrefour as "Car Fu" which I believe is correct pronounciation in French. But apparently many ppl call it Care Four. But so be it. I don't go and correct them anyway. But I remembered in some chinese countries it's called Jia Le Fu or Kar Fu. Can't remember if it's taiwan or where.....
Genie47 1st Gear December 22, 2009 Share December 22, 2009 Norwegians got independance from Sweden a long time ago. Their language is similar except for some subtle differences. So the Swedes and the Norwegians sort of understand each others language. Their relationship is more like Australia and NZ. Damn funny. ↡ Advertisement
