KoolBlue Neutral Newbie April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 take from which textbook wan LOL It's not from any textbook, just common understanding on weight management. How can one get fat if he doesn't eat too much? I know most here are not mainstream but when it comes to weight loss, it's actually that simple. The problem with most of us is that we love our food too much! For me, I exercise so that i can eat what I like! ↡ Advertisement
Skunk Clutched April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 It's not from any textbook, just common understanding on weight management. How can one get fat if he doesn't eat too much? I know most here are not mainstream but when it comes to weight loss, it's actually that simple. The problem with most of us is that we love our food too much! For me, I exercise so that i can eat what I like! there is a very poor understanding of energy metabolism by the human body, even among members of the scientific community, there is even controvesy about how much energy is actually absorbed by the human body, and how it's used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_energy yet persistently, people stick to the "calorie-in calorie-out" theory. A person can consume food containing 3000 calories, but if he only absorbs 2000 calories, will he gain weight? A person can consume n absorb 3000 calories, and only exercise off 500 calories. But he still won't gain weight if his base metabolic rate burns off 2500 calories. A person can consume n absorb 300 calories, but if he exercises sufficiently, and eats the right kind of calories (read the book Good Calories Bad Calories?), he will gain muscle and lose fat. Maybe will gain weight, but it's the kind of weight most men wanna have LOL Since eating right, i've been eating between 2500 and 3000 calories a day, yet to date, i've lost almost 7kg. And i actually exercise less than before, only 20 mins a day lol there's a difference eating 3000 calories in candy and 3000 calories of proper food. just go this forum and see http://forum.lowcarber.org/ 80000 members lost 1.6 million pounds. And nobody there is on a starvation diet, just eating the right foods, no need to count calories.
Skunk Clutched April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 I exercise so that i can eat what I like! i used to do that too! Exercise is good, but it isn't gonna contribute to weight control at all. In fact, a study has pointed out, for most people, exercise actually made them fatter, if it isn't done together with a proper diet.
Skunk Clutched April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 had a late night supper. Home baked chicken. 10 chicken midwings, 10 chicken drumlets, baked with 4 tablespoons of butter and sprinked with herbs. This morning had 4 eggs and coconut cream with coffee. Then went to exercise, nothing much, 10 mins worth only, very sianz lah, HIIT is very tiring leh LOL. Then weighed myself. Dropped another 100grams compared with the day before LOL. All the food vanished into thin air? There is something wrong with the calories-in calories-out theory. KoolBlue Neutral Newbie April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 I'm just trying to keep things simple without getting too technical. Sure, there are a lot of other contributing factors like what you mentioned but it will only confuse us more. That's why there are dietitians/nutritionists for the technical stuff. And yes, we have to watch what we eat. Healthier choices and not just junk food with empty calories.
Skunk Clutched April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 That's why there are dietitians/nutritionists for the technical stuff. Unfortunately, alot of them are precisely the ones with the wrong info, they are the ones touting calories-in calories-out! The human body is very complex, and by trying to "keep things simple", we run the risk of getting it half right, but also half wrong. I wonder how many fatsos are out there dieting, counting calories, eating only apples and carrot sticks, just to lose 2 kg, feel hungry and weak, and eventually give up the diet just to put on more weight than ever before? Once again, I say, it's not about the calories, it's about the type of food. Based on my food diary, i had 2800 calories today, 300 more than "required". And i've only exercised 10 mins. Should i be getting fatter or slimmer, based on the "calorie theory"? hehe
Chickenbackside 1st Gear April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 Well, the past >1 year of losing 30+kg and regaining my health has taught me a few things. Basically: 1) eating fat doesn't make you fat and get heart attacks, unless you couple it with carbs 2) exercise doesn't contribute very much to weight loss, weight maintenance yes, but not when you have lots of fat to lose 3) sugar makes people sick and is the cause of most health problems 4) carbs, whether simple or complex, are broken down into sugar inside the body, it's just a matter of how fast 5) short bouts of highly intense exercise yields a much more lean and muscular body than long bouts of not so intense exercise 6) don't eat anything that you cannot find in nature, your body can't deal with it well 7) get enough sun
Skunk Clutched April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 and while i've become pretty much anti-carbohydrate, i must say that even among the low-carb community, there is acknowledgement that the human body's interaction with the different types of carbohydrates is not fully understood. While we know that HFCS, fructose, and sucrose is bad for the body, there is acknowledgement that the body is actually built to handle a certain level of glucose. Apparently, it's the process of fructose/sucrose transforming into glucose in the body that damages the most. Maybe that'll explain why a small amount of rice won't hurt much. But for me, i'm not taking any chances, I don't want to be "the chunky guy" anymore...so no carbs for me ever!

To make this diet more accessible or should I say acceptable over the long term, maybe it would be good for newbies to try a diet that is low carb for a start. It can be 30% carb, 40% protein and 30 % fats. After some time, try adjusting to 20% carb, 40% protein and 40% fats. Eventually work towards less than 20% carbs.......... but that depends on your lifestye and accessibility to the right kind of food plus budget. Take note that the percentages are not in terms of food volume............
Piyopico Supercharged April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 Many of my frens are incredulous at my new diet. Most are just too polite to openly question your intelligence. Comment from a fren at a dinner last nite: Hey you know, be careful. I heard one person died from this kind of diet!! My retort: OK but I know millions die from exactly the same kind of diet that you are having.

Talking about death, aiya, whether we eat right or eat wrong, all will die, but the difference is how we die. I wanna die being speared by a marlin while fishing it, or slipping in the toilet after many whiskies, or from organ-failure in old age. Not lying in a hospital bed for years, suffering from diet-related ailments.

Comment from a fren at a dinner last nite: Hey you know, be careful. I heard one person died from this kind of diet!! My retort: OK but I know millions die from exactly the same kind of diet that you are having. Funny, I just had the same experience today. I bumped into a friend whom I haven't seen in a while, and as expected, he was bowled over by how much weight I lost and how "muscular" I seemed to be, and that if he didn't look carefully, he wouldn't have recognized me at all. He then proceeded to lift up my T shirt and remarked "Bloody hell, you have a 6-pack now??!! I can't call you fei low anymore!". And I remarked how much weight he had put on and how skinny he used to be. To my estimation, he had put on around 20kg from when I last saw him around 2 years ago. He then went on to say how he is taking a statin and blood pressure lowering drugs and that he's pre-diabetic. He said he just "suddenly" ballooned and that his metabolic rate just slowed down overnight when he turned 38. Of course we got talking about diet and I asked him what he eats. He says he doesn't "touch sugar" and only drinks "non sweet drinks like Heaven & Earth jasmine green tea" and eats lots of fruits and veges everyday and plenty of whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat bread, oatmeal...etc. He also doesnt eat any red meat, cuts out all fat and skin from his meat and cooks only with "healthy canola oil" and uses "heart healthy margarine" instead of butter. He says he eats "so healthy" but it's just a matter of "getting old". When I told him I eat the total opposite of him and told him how much fat I eat and pretty much zero healthy grains, he started to tell me it's going to kill me early and I will become fat and sick. It's "just a matter of time". Go figure! I wished him good luck with his "healthy diet" and medication and bid him farewell. Haha...

Hamburger Hypersonic April 16, 2010 Share April 16, 2010 5) short bouts of highly intense exercise yields a much more lean and muscular body than long bouts of not so intense exercise isn't there a theory tat states u need to exercise more than 30 mins. Reason is tat 1st 30 min is to burn carbo n there aft fats will then start to get burn off....... ↡ Advertisement
