Topgun Neutral Newbie October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 (edited) I LOVE MY NEW SHOES! ...The Bikilas felt really good. They reminded me of my childhood days. I grew up on a farm and we mostly went around bare footed. I expected them to need some getting used to but I fell in love immediately. My calves feel slightly sore now as I type this, which means I am working a different set of muscles. The only downsides are: 1) running over twigs and pine cones, you can feel everything under your foot, so you have to be more careful to watch where you're stepping 2) they look damn bloody weird, but hey, I eat a high fat diet. I AM weird. I'm a happy man today. My only regret is not buying them sooner... I've seen them in Taka too. However so far only spotted them 2x in the wild They do look wierd. I've 2 pairs of Newtons which I interchange when I was running 'regularly' . They are constructed in such a way that you would use forefoot strike when running. Will wait till I wear these out before I spend money on them 5 fingers. Edited October 4, 2010 by Topgun ↡ Advertisement
Xtrocious 1st Gear October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 Have some 99% pure chocolate if you like. Have a few pieces everyday or once a week or whatever suits you. But for heavens sake, don't make that your staple! Firstly, go buy a bar of Lindt 99% cacao and try it and tell me whether you can even put it in your mouth without spitting it out. I am the only one I know who likes it. Everyone else says it tastes like dirt. You can buy it at Candy Empire or Meidiya supermarket at Liang Court. Please don't cheat and buy 85% cacao. 1% sugar is not the same as 15% sugar. Like I said, pure chocolate is high fat and has no sugar. There are plenty of delicious food that has this profile. Butter, beef, lamb, salmon, tuna, coconut, duck, pork, liver, kidney, bone marrow... Why go on the "chocolate diet"? Yup, cacao butter is wicked... Watched an episode of the lighter side of Prime Time Morning and there's this lady who does "organic" chocolates i.e. make the chocolates from scratch with cacao seeds... Maybe we can source her out and get her to make primal chocolates just for us...hahah

Ender Hypersonic October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 (edited) I've been reading and trying out forefoot strike, but eventually will end up heel strike mid way thru the run. Guess you're right about the shoes.. Those VFF are expensive, couldn't bare to part some much for so little in between the foot and the ground. But I may try some day.. Interestingly, just last Tuesday on Okto, there' a shows "Weird or what", and one part they are talking about the Tarahumara tribe people in Mexico. They runs 100km daily around the county. Part of their culture from young to old, man to woman. There's even one who ran more than 700km in 2 days.. And the secret may be they are around barefoot, and the unique running posture becoz of their fore-foot strike. It's interesting to see them in action during the show, and I try to imitate them just last nite. But again, probably due to my shoe, I revert back the heel strike unknowingly. BTW from the vid, I think wear sarong helps too.. Edited October 5, 2010 by Ender
Mazdaowner Moderator October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 Hey, CBS, those pair of shoes are wicked man! I have one pair, which I wore out. Close to these, (well the concept of these shoes came from Japan) are the Japanese Tabi which I have worn before in Japan, comfortable as well, and very good balance. (local lion dance troupe use them also) Tabi come in high and low cuts. Cost only a fraction of what these shoes cost. My sons got them for me, when I was doing running then. Worn out a pair, better price online, Zappos.com.

My office is just beside Liang Court. I shall buy one later and let you know! haha. I been having chocolate craving of late, which is why i wanna do the chocolates. i have no intentions of going on a pure chocolate diet. that would be madness. but to be honest with you, i have only been having coconut milk as my "fat" diet, hopefully eating more tuna soon. it's just that there is only so much tuna one can take haha. i used to eat a bit of that. the rest of the stuff like butter, beef, lamb, pork, liver, kidney, bone marrow... i aint a fan of those. so yeah hopefully the coconut milk will offer enough of the healthy fats. be loading a bit more of the tuna too. do you eat salmon raw? Mazdaowner Moderator October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 Yes, to common folks, to those who know, they're Tabis. Misconception, Ninjas were not the only ones wearing such, samurais, warrior class, farmers, tradesmen, and even geisha used them. So, no, they're not really known as NINJA BOOTS. Ninja boots...hahah
Chickenbackside 1st Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 do you eat salmon raw? Raw, cooked, half raw half cooked, I eat them all... Love salmon head. My favourite part of the fish...
Chickenbackside 1st Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 BTW from the vid, I think wear sarong helps too.. Great video. Don't forget the red long sleeve shirt... Basket, here we are spending hundreds of dollars buying weird looking shoes to run 10k, half/full/super marathons. These people run 400 MILES at a time barefooted or with home made sandals made from discarded tyres... Reminds me of beginner guitar players buying $20k guitars in hopes of making better music...
